  1. Can't speak for any of those, but I'm gonna Bragg about my Be quiet 900. I like it a lot and I'm pretty future proof as well. If you want RGB control, then go with the PRO version that has a glass side window. Right from the beginning I slammed 4 extra Noctua 140 mm fans and if I unplug the hdds (4 of them), I literally can't hear if the PC is on or not. The GPU is from MSI gtx 1070, și very silent as well. I went for full silence. The intake at the button and at the front are filtered. Extremely easy to get out. Usually when I vacuum clean the room, I take those out and clean them very fast as well. Keeps everything neat and clean.
  2. So guys, on another related topic: which do you consider to be the most silent and reliable HDD s for RAID?
  3. A few reasons that would make sense to me: 1) hardware raid is more reliable? 2) not enough sata ports on the z97 board 3) takes the overhead off the CPU 4) I can connect even non raid-ed drives to it I looked at the Freenas a little bit. Does that one suppose software raid or the raid card is still necessary? I have a smaller PC with a Pentium 2 core CPU, 8 GB of RAM and an SSD that I could repurpose. As for the threadripper, this is gonna take a while. Got other priorities right now. For the moment I'd like to have a simple but reliable raid array which I could expand on the future. Threadripper might or might not come, but the backup is a must. Right now i have to handle it manually... @scottysengi hear you about the bbu. The 9362 however is 2÷3 times the price. Way out my budget atm V PS: Here is a photo of the build as well. I have a spare Noctua 80mm that I can point to the raid card if needed.
  4. I get your point and you are correct. I am planning on expanding this in the future. Photography is a hobby of mine so I will definetly be gathering more and more photos in time. Besides, 250 GB SSDs are more and more affordable, and fitting a few of those in raid 0 sounds "Speedy" I also plan on getting a threadripper 8/16 or 12/24 version in the future for the 64 pcie lanes. Photoshop and the merge option takes a lot of space (SSD and RAM wise) and benefits from a lot of cores. If someone has any particular suggestions, I`m all ears! (eyes ) Thank you for your inputs so far V.
  5. Thank you for your suggestions. The hba makes sense then. So I'm looking at an LSI 9271-8i. This one seems a legit one, with ok reviews. I take it LSI is one of the most trusted brands? Also, I already have a backup PSU. My whole rig is running through it so I'm not worried about the bbu for the LSI cards. Besides, those cost as much as the whole card... V
  6. Hello everybody. I`m looking to raid a few WD reds 3 TB drives for back up. Mainly photos and videos with my daughter. So as you have already guessed, these are important. I have been eyeballing a few raid cards on Newegg but as I have no prior experience with these, I`m not really sure what I`m looking at. My main concern is that, all though some of the raid cards have similar specs, the prices vary drastically - sometimes twice the price - and I can`t understand why. So, as I was saying, I was looking at some LSI Raid cards like the 9207-8i and similar. I`ve seen a few similar versions. I`m planning on fitting it in a Be Quiet Dark Base 900, fully rigged with fans - 4 intake + PSU and 3 exhaust. Also got a Noctua NH-D15 on a 4790K and an MSI 1070 Gaming X. Have no issues with cooling I think. Someone worked with these and can recommend something reliable? Also, is HBA important in any way? I`m not sure what it means. And btw, I already have 2 x 3 TB Red drives. Would you recommend fitting them in RAID 1 or get a few extra and put them in RAID 5? Thank you. V.
  7. Thanks a lot for your answer. Yes, the poopy poopies are rather expensive, but hell, you have only one life to live! That`s why I ordered 4 extra Noctuas. This means that I`m gonna have 2 x Noctuas (at the bottom of the case)+ 2 x Be Quiet (included with the case, in front of the case) for intake and 2 x Noctuas top + 1 x Be Quiet (rear) for exhaust. It looks reasonable. 4 intake vs 3 exhaust. Also, i`m thinking of reversing the power supply and reversing its fan as well, so that it works as intake. Basically this would make the whole bottom of the case as intake. The power supply fan is not that fast but then again, anything blowing air is ok as long as it is silent... Also, the power supply is an EVGA 750W Gold. What do you think? Thanks V
  8. Hello ladies! I just ordered the Be Quiet Dark base 900 case (the non pro version - so no tampered glass) along with 4 extra Noctua 140 mm fans for it. To answer your question: yes! I`m a silence freak! I`m going to have a video card with internal blower style (most probably the MSI 1070 Gaming X). And the question is: - from your experience, how useful are the side fans that blow onto the video card. I`m talking about the two 120mm slots that are on the left side panel. - in my situation (I wanted to say case...), would the be useful or they would just cause turbulence/obstruction in the normal flow of the bottom and front side fans. The rest of the system: Asus Sabertooth Mark 1 4x8 GB Hyper X fury 4790K (non overclocked) Noctua NH D15 with Low noise adapters (YES!) GTX 970 Mini ITX from Gigabyte 3 TB red drive (it is the quietest one between Green/black. Haven`t tried the purple one yet) Samsung PRO 500 GB SSD LG 34UC87 Ultrawide 1440p. Thank you ME PS: Sry about the title. I screwed up. I wanted to say SIDE, not SITE
  9. Hello! For two weeks I have been experiencing some issues with the graphics card. During some games (Skyrim, AOE 4) the screen goes black and PC crashes. System specs: 4790K Sabertooth Mark 2 Mobo 2x4 GB Ripjaw RAM Gigabyte GTX 970 mini itx Noctua NH-D15 cooler LG 34UC87 1440p monitor. I already tried installing older drivers. Reinstalled Windows 7. Upgraded to Win 10 as of last night to try it out. The same errors. Always tied to the same file. Look below in the log. this is what I`m getting in the log:
  10. No, it wouldn`t add to the cost. So, the case clean should be around 150. Can get to 200 if it`s a rly rly rly nice one
  11. I can get it delivered by third party person. Sry, I`m at work and typing between phone calls. Didn`t get to finish the phrase
  12. Budget is ~150 USD as in the original post. I am in Europe but that`s of little relevance as i can get it.
  13. I forgot to add that I will be getting a few drives in RAID 1. Maybe a pair in RAID 0. and also that I want the computer to be as silent as possible. I will be using it for video rendering and photo editing. Wont be doing aggressive OC thou.
  14. Hello! I ordered some components for BlackFriday. 1 x ($289.99) Intel Core i7-4790K Haswell Quad-Core 4.0GHz LGA 1 $289.99 1 x ($119.99) GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI S $119.99 1 x ($89.99) Thermaltake Toughpower TPD-0750M - SLI/ CrossFire $89.99 1 x ($79.99) OCZ VTX460-25SAT3-240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Fla $79.99 1 x ($54.99) G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 $54.99 1 x (($10.00)) DISCOUNT FOR PROMOTION CODE($10.00) 1 x (($29.99)) DISCOUNT FOR AUTOADD #127661 I will be getting a Noctua NH-D15 and a video card during next 2-3 months. Aiming for a ~150$ video card - most prolly nVidia one (just to give you an idea about the heat generation). Now I`m looking for a case. 1) Air cooling optimized 2) I would like to be able to fit 200 mm fans on it, 2-3 would be perfect. 3) Don`t want too much plastic, prefer something aluminium made (not necessarily full Al) 4) Would like to have bottom intake, would LOVE to fit a 200 mm fan there. 5) Has to have at least 180 mm available width for the cooler (Noctua power!) 6) You think side intake makes a big difference? What is your experience? I would like to go and just look at cases and choose one, however that is not really an option. From your experience, which would fit best my needs? I also looked at Corsair 540 air series, however for the price there is a lot of plastic and the mounting for the HDDs/SSDs are as crappy as they can get (they break very easily). Thank you! Edit: Budget: ~150$ (can get to 200 IF it`s really nice! )
