Before this they were really the only company that offered sub 5" phones with flagship specs. This seems to have changed with this release though.

uk [UK] Culture Secretary backs time limits for children using social media
Daegun replied to butler1233's topic in Tech News
This seems like an awful idea just for the implications of what they're trying to do here. Think beyond the 'but think of the children!' argument they're presenting here and about how set on surveillance the UK is and its worrying. It seems like they're trying to get a foot in the door for removing anonymity from the Internet (at least with the idea of a central database that's required to make an account), and they're doing it in a way that more people will agree with them. On social media negatively impacting children, it negatively impacts everyone. There's studies done that link it to increased cases of depression in adults as well as teens. So this isn't something that if you shield them from it now, they'll be okay later. -
Executive order vs law. Both of those articles say the governors signed an executive order, while Washington is the first to put it into law.
-
I'm not a big fan of the look, and removing the headphone jack wasn't a great move, but my biggest complaint has to be the increased size of the compact. It looks like we'll never again have a flagship level phone under 5".

Gang related murders in this case are any murders where either the victim or the perpetrator are gang members, so that would certainly be recorded as a gang related murder. Number 5 on this list explains how they record it. https://www.nationalgangcenter.gov/About/FAQ#q5
-
Sorry, working with a bit outdated of data here, but gang related murders compared to overall murders are actually relatively low. From 1996-2012 they averaged about 13% of overall murders in the US. So unless there was an unprecedented increase in just the last 5 years, they're still relatively low. https://www.nationalgangcenter.gov/survey-analysis/measuring-the-extent-of-gang-problems For the gun deaths in the US I used this site: http://www.gunviolencearchive.org They include an address, source, and incident report for each entry. The discrepancy in the number might come from accidental shootings, most sources I viewed put gun related murders at around 11,000-12,000. I would be fine with continuing the conversation in pm, I derailed the thread a bit by turning it only to guns.
-
Yes, those are included in that number. I see that said a lot, and you are correct in a sense that if someone is that determined to kill someone they will find a way. But as the 80% lower deaths show, not nearly as many people are willing to go that far.
-
Before the whole 'but if we outlaw guns, people will find other ways to kill people, like knifing,' starts up: Gun related deaths in the US last year (excluding suicides) was over 15,000. Total murders for Japan, the UK, France, Germany, and Spain barely exceeded 3000, and those countries combined have about the population of the US. If you want to keep it on just China, they had a little over 18,000 murders despite having more than 3 times the population of the US.

murica's internet officially getting fast lanes.

Another totally expected, totally scummy move by isps. Businesses never lobby or spend money on things they won't use. @Max_Settings Ken M, is that you?- 21 replies

I don't disagree that this is something that the government really shouldn't be getting into, at least not at this point. I just don't want people to think that the types of lootboxes that started this (Battlefront 2 style, not Overwatch) are something that's good or even acceptable.
-
Cool? Interesting? This 'nice little game feature' is probably the most hated mechanic added to games in recent memory.
-
Wasn't there a big kerfuffle a year or two ago about some Huawei phones collecting far more data than they should? Not surprising that they wouldn't want this happening to government officials with a company based in another country.

I went by that first picture too fast, that definitely isn't 40mm, you're right.

Sorry, I should have been going off of the 40mm there, not the 130mm. Stupid mistake to make, but even then it's smaller. Based on Asus own measurements available on their website, the card is 29.8cm x 13.4cm x 5.25cm. Unless the measurements for the vega card are wrong, it's bigger in every direction.

The Asus strip 1080ti is 297mm long, much larger than this 'massive' card.

Google to Punish Mobile Websites which show hard-to-dismiss Popup Ads
Daegun replied to Tech_Dreamer's topic in Tech News
Thank god. If only they had gotten on this sooner, things got out of control a long time ago. Will they be doing anything to the sites that automatically redirect you to an ad page the moment the page loads? They seem to be the worst offenders in my opinion.- 32 replies

Source? Because gp100 enterprise cards aren't releasing until January.
-
Wait a minute here. Not jumping on the amd fanboy train here, but the only thing you got right about hbm there was the cost. It both draws less power and performs better than GDDR5.
-
If this was a gp104 chip and they're having so much trouble producing functioning chips for the 1070 and 1080, they would have a surplus of chips for the 1060 and would have been able to launch it by now.
-
If it really is a very cut-down GP104 chip, what kind of disgustingly bad yields are Nvidia getting and why isn't this card out already? 100% certain it's a different chip.

AMD announcing release of Vega to partners, a mistake?
Daegun replied to A/C's topic in General Discussion
I mean, maybe a few that want to go the next step up from a $200 card but don't have enough for the 1070 at $400, but it doesn't seem like it should be a massive amount. I mean, we all know and knew vega is coming, so it shouldn't be a surprise. Vega and Polaris are targeting very different sections of the market. Besides those that wanted that next step up, anyone considering a 390x+ replacement or 1070 competitor or higher wasn't giving the 480 more than a glance anyways. -
Well, I can certainly say that I'd never play twister with her. I'd lose so fast it isn't funny. That and I'd probably be accused of rape. So, yeah....
