  1. His build isn't bad. Just take out the SSD. An SSD isn't going to make the FPS higher. If he plans on playing GTA V he is going to want something better than a 270x. As you said he can upgrade later an SSD isn't a necessity.
  2. An i5 and 8Gb of Ram would be adequate. My brother and I both have the Surface Pro 3 with those specs. He is majoring in CS and i'm majoring in MIS. He has done a lot of programming and I've done a bit myself. For what a student does for a Undergraduate degree it is more than enough. Speaking from experience from students who will be graduating in about a year. I also work at a company that develops software. Some of the developers had and some still only have 8Gb of Ram. Only recently some of devs started getting machines with 16Gb. And they develop some pretty big and complex software.
  3. I would go with the 29 inch they are a fair price for an ultrawide if you can get them around $250-300. I have two. They don't feel small at all imo. I would only go with the 34 inch if it was 3440 x 1440p looks a lot better and crisper with that resolution at that screen size. But that also comes with a greater price tag.
  4. I remember there being talk about this. And I remember there being talk about the integrated intel graphics working with the dedicated gpu. But from what I know I believe this has to be developed by the developers order to do so. And as of right now. I don't know of any games or programs by name that use DX12 yet. At least any well known games. It might be awhile until we see some games using DX12. It might be even longer until we see a game using the integrated graphics and dedicated GPU or another manufacturers GPU for that matter.
  5. I struggled with this when setting up Dirt Rally. From what I found is Nvidia surround doesn't appear to have any tilt options. And only bezel. Which is honestly sucks. I have read that some games support multi-monitor setups quite well and include all of the settings for bezel and adjusting. But if the games doesn't have it it appears we are out of luck.. Also nvidia surround never appeared to actually work with Dirt Rally. It never really got rid of the bezel in game. But it worked on the desktop. It was weird. From what I can see this really needs work. I would love to see something that actually makes this easy and work.
  6. I have two 29' Ultrawides from LG that are 2560x1080. They are great. Not sure why people think they are grainy.. or why they think it will stretch terribly. That's a bunch of bull. Maybe the 34' models with that resolution but not the 29'. These monitors are great and I think they are pretty productive without having to have two monitors although I do have two and have quite a bit of space. I can easily multi-task. I work from home sometimes and I am still in college. It is nice having four separate windows across both monitors instead of flipping back and forth. Even when I had one monitor I found it useful. I got the second one on sale for too good of a price to say no to. Although I don't think you can wrong either way. If you want to try something new I would go with the Ultrawide. I can say from now on I will only buy ultrawides.
  7. I have both! And use both everyday. Work and home. Love them both as well. They each have their purpose. If I want to use more buttons to make shortcuts easy it is the g602. If not the g502. The difference mainly is the g502 is higher dpi and accuracy with less buttons and wired. The g602 has good dpi just not as high as the g502 but has more buttons and is wireless. Keep in mind I can't tell the difference between latency with wireless vs wired with these 2 mice. I don't think you can go wrong with either.
  8. I have the same resolution and went from a 970 to a 980ti and it works great! I even use DSR on some games and still get 60 FPS+. If you are willing to spend the money go for it. I mainly bought my 980ti to prepare for the Oculus Rift early next year. But I think either a 980ti or a Fury X would be a good choice for you.
  9. Yeah I don't think there is software out there that would allow multiple mice to work on the same pc. Does Minecraft on the PC support controllers? you might be able to have one run under a controller while the other is mouse and keyboard. But... thinking about it now. The controller would probably need the window to be the active window to work... so that probably wouldn't work either. So VM's are your best option but that will require another license of Minecraft anyway...
  10. Looks pretty good. Excited for the beta.
  11. I bought the GTX 970 shortly after it came out. But today I would probably choose the 390. More vram. Similar if not better performance. With more vRAM better for Crossfire vs 970 SLI. And Free Sync monitors is way cheaper than Gsync monitors.
  12. Here are a few options. You shouldn't need the best processor. But it is a wide range of touch screen laptops. Ranging from a Intel Core M to i5. Dell XPS 2 in 1 11.6" Lenovo Yoga 2 11.6" ASUS Transformer T300 CHI 12.5" Edit: Although you may not like the screen size if you are used to larger laptops. But for school I prefer portability.
  13. This is really tempting. But the timing and latency is different then the ram I have currently.... but I only have 8gb at the moment.
  14. I'm interested. But would have to see what games would be available. If they somehow combine this with the existing Xbox one deal for a low price I would definitely be in.
  15. Xbox 360 or Xbox One. But it is difficult for me to pick between the two. The 360 controller was amazing and I had no complaints. But the xbox one controller managed to make the controller just feel better in my hands. My only complaint with the Xbox One controller is the outer edge around the triggers. I can feel it and it bugs me when I press down on the triggers. The 360 controller didn't have that problem.
  16. Just pre-order myself. But only because GMG had a 25% discount. Otherwise I would have waited.
  17. For that price there is no sense and paying more than you have to. This the monitor I have LG-29UM57-P for $289 from amazon. Cheapest I have found. It is 2560 x 1080. Works well for me. There are a few more expensive ultra wides in your range. But they do not really gain you anything. Then a 1440P Ultra wide is in the $700+ range. I know more about Ultra wides than normal 1440P monitors. But you might do some more searching to see if you can find a good 1440P monitor in your price range. It's too bad you didn't catch the deal bestbuy had a few weeks ago on that same ultra wide above.
  18. I have an xbox one myself. And a few ultra wides at 2560x1080. And yes it does put black bars on the side for the console. I imagine it would do the same for the PS4. But it would make for a great experience for the PC. Ultra wides can be a bit expensive with the 3440x1440P resolution. It's completely up to you. We don't know how much you are willing to spend. It just seems like a waste of a extra 970 if you are only going to use 1 1080P monitor at 60HZ.
  19. To be honest it's only a 1080P monitor but looks like a pretty good monitor though. But for the most part 1 970 can handle that. I would suggest getting at least a 1440P monitor to take advantage of the 2 970s. Or maybe a 2560x1080 Ultrawide. Or maybe even a 3440x1440p Ultrawide. Unless you want to buy three of those monitors then that would be awesome!
  20. My brother is in IT and bought Dell Venue Pro 11's for a doctor's office. They hated it! The pen's only worked half the time or if not at all. I would use a lot of caution if you are considering the Dell Venue Pro 11 for hand writing. The Surface 3 might be something you want to look into.
  21. Woah didn't know about the new Age of Empires II expansion! I'll definitely be getting that. I haven't played Age of Mythology. But I'll definitely take a look at it.
  22. Looks great! And it appears they finally have themselves a proper 2 in 1 imo. Should be a great competitor with the Surface Pro 4 when they both are released.
  23. Awesome thanks for the suggestion! Been want to try something different than Steam and Skype. Steam has been having issues recently for my group of friends... Thought about using skype. But one friend has been too lazy to make an account and download skype. TeamSpeak seems great but I didn't want to pay for it. So this seems like a great option. I will definitely give it a try some time this week.
  24. Thanks for the video. Been wanting to try it out. Free flight here I come.
