My Bluray drive seems to be struggling at installing anything from a CD or DVD at a decent speed, while my DVD drive managed to install Oblivion (both discs) almost instantly. Definitely glad that I didn't remove the DVD drive from my rig.

Blu-ray drives are good for ripping Blu-rays, watching DVDs and not much else.

I'm really tempted to actually get a program to rip my blu-rays. Yesterday because my ISP (fuck Telstra) decided to disconnect phone lines (so no ADSL) for unannounced "maintenance" (mobile towers also went down-couldn't even make emergency calls), I couldn't even watch any of my BR because the software relies on the internet for the decoder.

Perfect example of why most BR also inlcude a DVD copy. Movie studios not understanding that DRM only hurts consumers, BR sales, and creates pirates.

@Dan Castellaneta You forgot using them for emulating consoles when you don't have space for games you own

I like my blu-ray drive, admiteddly it now has an external housing and only comes out when I need it though :)

I have ripped my dvd/blu-rays for years, I hate the crap that comes with them like forced advertising and trailers, plus I can keep the original pristine, and also make digital copies at a decent bitrate without having to keep buying more HDDs every month.
