  1. Yeeaaaaa, I'm inclined to agree at this point. Just hoping somebody would know some black magic or voodoo to help me out. I don't have a backup CPU and I've not had good times with AMD service in the past. Thanks for the input!
  2. Hello all, I'm having some incredibly frustrating issues with my PC. For the last several weeks it will crash seemingly at random. After a few hours gaming, or only watching YouTube, or even doing literally nothing at the desktop. Sometimes it goes a few days with no issues, sometimes it crashes repeatedly. Its usually a complete lock-up. No response from anything, including the power button, and I am forced to flip the switch on the PSU. I've tried 3 different graphics cards, 2 sets of RAM, 2 PSUs, 2 motherboards, and 2 boot drives each with a fresh Win10 install. Both motherboards had the issue before and after updating everything there was to update from manufacturers. At this point the only things I have not tried is a new CPU and replacing my surge protector. Event Viewer shows no useful information. There are only normal "Information" entries showing no issues or errors until a sudden "Critical" from where I've had to hard reset. Temperatures are well within range when this happens. Highest temp was 67C on my CPU during the most recent crashes. I'm truly at a loss here and figured I should check with the peeps here. Been a long time lurker, but never really posted. If anybody has any tips at all, let me know. BTW current specs are Ryzen 2700X Asus TUF X570 Gaming wifi EVGA 2070 Super Black Edition Gigabyte B700H G-Skill Trident Z RGB (2x8GB @ 3200Mhz) Samsung 850 EVO M.2 500GB ADATA SX6000NP NVMe M.2 500GB WD Blue 1TB SSD EK Fluid Gaming kit (probs not relevant but just in case) Be Quiet Dark Base 900 Pro
  3. Rig name: Citrine Monolith CPU: i7-4790k GPU: AMD R9 380 (G1 Gaming) RAM: 2x8GB 1866 HyperX Fury Right smack dab in the middle of Capable. Good enough for me.
  4. If you leave the stock fan on the heatsink it maxes out at 21db, but only with the fan pinned at 100%. If you want to change it you can though, mounting hardware fits 120mm fans. I don't hear anything under normal use, and even when my CPU is at 100% load it is still quiet.
  5. Don't cheap out on your cooler just to afford a better case right now. Get a good cooler and it will serve you well for a long time. I use the Dark Rock 3 myself and I highly recommend it. Both cool and quiet. It DOES have RAM clearance issues but you should be fine with 2 sticks. Worst case you put the fan in pull. Or splurge for the Pro 3 if you have room in your case/your memory allows it. The Dark Rock 3 was $95 CAD on NCIX last I checked.
  6. A WD Network enabled hard drive for my mother. That way she could have easy access to media files instead of trying to use my basic file sharing setup or constantly putting things onto USB sticks over and over. A backup system would be nice as well. Her PC got fried by lightning and needed to be replaced sooooo.... http://www.amazon.ca/Western-Digital-WDBCTL0030HWT-NESN-Cloud-Drive/dp/B00EVVGAC6/ref=sr_1_12?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449150279&sr=1-12&keywords=NAS That is supposed to be the 4TB version. Odd numbers bother me.
  7. I would like this so I can have a small PC that actually fits behind/beside my TV. I just have a salvaged desktop on the floor beside the TV stand right now. Something that can handle game streaming without choking would be great.
  8. By convincing my step brother who DOES have money that he needs upgrades. He then has me install them since his PC is worth a shitload at this point and he has never built one. That gets me through a couple days.
  9. I would use it for streaming my various games (mostly Borderlands 2) to Twitch. I already do that, but a full license would improve the quality so much. I would also more than likely record some Lets Plays and put them up on the YouTubes.

  11. I like it better than the old intro but I preferred the other new intro option.
  12. I would love a 5820k because it would be the first time I actually owned a current generation CPU and would love to build a machine around it.
  13. Thanks for clearing that up. I haven't done a drive swap in quite some time without also upgrading the OS. I have been pretty lucky that way.
  14. Unfortunately if I understand Microsoft policy the old License Key will not work at all. I know if you switch out a major component, such as Motherboard, it requires a new key. I believe it will require a new key for a new hard drive as well. Windows will think you are installing a fresh copy on a new machine and won't care that it is just a repair. As for installation, I used this site to create a bootable USB and copied the Windows 8 files to that USB drive and it worked just fine.
  15. Good to know. Thanks for that tip. Just upgraded my GPU though so that will have to wait. This did reveal one other thing to me though. Time to upgrade my CPU cooler. I am within 8 degrees of my max temp. Also: Does anybody know how much this would impact your power bill compared to heavy gaming, like Metro Last Light@1080p?
