  1. Not that heavy as you described - she's doing a degree in composing for games so it's complex, but for context, she is currently running a 6th gen i5 with 8gb RAM and it only starts to struggle when she's nearing the end of the score. So 32GB seems good enough right now
  2. No more than £2000 UK - England Gaming (latest AAA at 1440p), and heavy Music Creation, (FL Studio, etc.) Building for my sister. Is there anything I can do to improve this build price-performance wise? I'm choosing DDR5 for upgradability as this is going to last the next 5-8 years or so. I'm suprised by the lack of choice for DDR5 motherboards? Would a Z series motherboard be an advantage? I'm not planning on overclocking, but a little 5-10% gain wouldn't do any harm either. Going with Intel, apparently some music creation software runs better and takes advantage of the core count, I am however open to AMD if anyone has any recommendations.   3. Hi, We have an ISP provided router/access point combo downstairs which is fine on the whole, but struggles to reach some rooms upstairs. We have an ethernet port in one of the rooms upstairs, which is attached to my PC, but other rooms don't have one. What access point would people recommend, along with a switch (so I can use my PC wired still)? Our speeds are 300mbs so a gigabit switch is good.   4. Thanks for this. tbh I was wondering whether I'd be better off getting another switch and a separate AP like you suggest. I have done some further research though, and that TP-Link I linked can be used in 'access point' mode, so disables all routing capability, and apparently the inbuilt switch remains active whilst doing so. So as a cheaper alterative to the Ubiqiti AP, that may work
  5. So I have a ISP Provided Modem/Router/AccessPoint combo downstairs, which serves the house with WiFi. It's *fine* but not great upstairs. There is an ethernet coming from the back of it, which then goes up and into my room, which I plug into my computer. If I wanted to get better WiFi coverage upstairs, I would just buy a second router/AP, like this one, plug it into the ethernet port in my room, then use the built in switch on the back of that for my PC so I can still use wired internet. However, the question is, would the router downstairs need to be put into 'MODEM MODE' for this to work, or could both the old ISP combo router and my new Tp-Link router be able to both provide a WiFi signal of their own? I know issues exist like conflicting routing, etc.

Here is where I'm at. It's for a friend and he's wondering if there's anything that can be done just to knock off £100 at least or so. Ideally, I'd like to STICK WITH NVIDIA, as he is doing lots of editing with premiere pro as well as gaming, so hardware acceleration is useful. Should I go down to a 2060? 3200mhz ram? Let me know your thoughts on this as a whole and what could be done to improve it.

  8. Right that solves it then I think. Thank you guys, likely a sensor issue that's developed. The heat spreader is barely warm to the touch, so I imagine if it was actually 112 I would be able to feel that ahahha. Thanks.
  9. Also tested on Hardware Monitor and is showing similar (108). Good to know it's not too much of an issue, it's just never been this hot before
  10. So, I noticed yesterday that my Motherboard chipset is reading 112 c. Not good. I've had the PC for getting onto 6 years now, so it's becoming an old boy. Does anyone have an ideas or reasoning for why it's got so hot? All my case fans are running and the heat spreader seems to be mounted as normal. Nothing is overclocked. Help is appreciated!
  11. Thanks everyone for your input! Don't want people falling out over numbers and stuff. At the end of the day, I'm far from a professional so any upgrade is going to be better than what I have now, whether it be AMD or Intel for Adobe. However, I'm just after the best price per performance. All options above within reason and I will do my own research to conclude what I think is better for my system and budget. My initial thought was Intel, but will pay very close attention to AMD. But some comments have deffo helped to guide me in the right direction. All else fails, I'll just wack LunaFusion on an iPad and call it a day
  12. Nice what you've done with CPU and storage. That makes sense. Will deffo think about the GPU too. Reason I went with 2060 Super is to have flexability in the future if I wanted to start gaming on my PC again (not done in years). If I decide I don't need to, will go with cheaper option. Everything else makes sense. Appreciated and will look into it.
  13. Roughly £1500 United Kingdom I've gone Intel and nvidia because it's what I know. But if I can get matched or better performance for cheaper, go ahead. Obviously nvidia has CUDA acceleration vs OpenCL
  14. This was typically the case. From what I have heard now, Adobe is (kind of) pushing optimisation for AMD HT chips. I don't know if it's 100% there yet. Main reason why I went Intel is because it's what I've always gone for, and honestly I'm not fully up to date with what's happening on AMD's side, apart from I know you often get the same performance for cheaper since Ryzen Will look in to this
  15. I am in the process of planning a new build. It will be primarily used for video editing, using Premiere Pro, After Effects and AVID Media Composer. My criteria: Edit 1080p footage regularly, with the capability to do 4K as time goes on (and run a 4K monitor) Good airflow and cooling, whilst being fairly quiet when wearing headphones Look somewhat decent. RGB header on mobo is nice. The components I have decided on so far: Intel Core i7-9700K 3.6 GHz Cooled by Noctua NH-U12A ASUS Prime Z390-A LGA1151 Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (Might go with 32gb later) Samsung 970 Evo NVME 500GB (for boot) Samsung 860 Evo SATA 1TB (for media) RTX 2060 Super (idk which OEM, might go Founders edition because I actually think it looks good?) Fractal Design Ion+ Platinum 560W (or something like that) Fractal Design Meshify C with TG Could this be improved in any way? Or anything that is just too OTTP? In theory, the CPU may be bottle necked by GPU for gaming. However, the amount of times I will game on this is minimal. Open to suggestions. Thanks
