  1. Just wondering what the fastest setup for storage would currently be that an end user would notice 1) 10x 256GB SSD in RAID0? 2) PCIe SSD? (DC P3700) 3) M.2 solution? Would an end user even notice a difference between something like (1) and (2) ? Just curious....
  2. Any wireless Keyboard suggestions? Also can anyone confirm that I would be able to switch seamlessly between my wired keyboard and Wireless one? (same for my mouse?)
  3. This is exactly what I've heard, but I also tack on that the sensor currently being used is 2nd tier these days and could be in need of an upgrade. I feel much more comfortable with going that direction though after reading your post As to my experience so far, I have one caveat before I proceed - I am not very sensitive to either mouse lag / input latency and low refresh rates don't bother me all that much. My current GPU is only an R9 290 and so my current experience is at 30Hz refresh. It is awesome. Simply awesome. It is like experiencing the jump from VHS to DVD all over again. The recliner is approximately 8' from the screen. Yes I can instantly tell a difference in games. I've played a bit of the first 2 Borderlands and the fist Bioshock. IMO Bioshock turns into a whole new game. Experiencing Bioshock at 4K is everything I would expect to get when someone releases a newly "Remastered" game. With Borderlands though the impact is not as great. This was a pretty interesting experience and one that opened my eyes to let me know that art style will play an impact on the overall experience. I have also played StarCraft 2 and the difference was - Mehn. Part of the reason it wasn't as mind blowing as the other games though was because I was trying to use a KB/M not even 2' from the screen. With an RTS I was constantly losing the mouse on all the real-estate. Again art style plays a major role - with an RTS I wouldn't (and didn't) expect a massive impact just due to it being the genre that it is. I am holding off on trying out the action games like the Batman series until I get a 60Hz capable card (with HDMI 2.0 output). I still have yet to try RPG's and space sims and MMO type games like SWTOR and D&DO. If you wanted me to test out a specific game let me know - if I've got it I'll give it a go, and if I don't have it, I might get it just to test with The other thing to consider is that I got a pretty fricken good deal on the TV. It's an LG 55UB9500 and I paid $1,125 all in (tax, eco fee, delivery). At that price it is more than what I would have hoped for,
  4. I've recently added a 55" 4K TV to my set up along with a nice leather recliner. The TV is powered by my PC and so I'm trying to figure out the best way to incorporate it into my gaming. What are some suggestions for a good wireless keyboard and mouse? I'm *very* partial to RAT mice specifically due to the pinky flare attachment. I've recently tested a Cougar 700m as a possible new wired mouse but couldn't do it simply because of how much I like that pinky attachment for keeping it from dragging on the mat. The RAT9 doesn't have the best reviews, so I'm a bit hesitant to go that route. (That said I'm still leaning that way). I have no idea for any kind of wireless keyboard which would lend itself to gaming. My current wired board is the Corsair K90. If I attached a wireless KB/M would I still be able to use the wired ones without issue or would I be in a situation where I needed to Plug in/unplug the receiver each time to stop any kind of driver competition between the two sets (wired vs wireless) Thoughts and suggestions?
  5. Just a bump to see if other people with 4K displays just plug and play Youtube videos from Chrome without issue in 4K?
  6. While the Razer Turret looks promising I'm also thinking of ways to enable use of flight sticks too. I'm guessing jus getting some extenders on the USB cables would do it. I've just started getting set up so I'll have to try out a couple ideas to see how they work.
  7. i recently made some additions to the man-cave in the form of a 55" 4K TV and a nice leather recliner. I'd like to try to get some sort of set up on the go to allow for a little "couch" gaming. I was thinking something like a hospital tray might do the trick? Something a bit adjustable. While a TV tray might do the trick I'm looking for a bit more elegant solution. Any thoughts or picture for ides?
  8. Yah LTT is great stuff to test with because he does do 4K and I can see it in 4K if I use the native app on the TV. Just YouTube on Chrome doesn't want to seem to play nice. I haven't tried other browsers yet though - thought I would check and see if anyone else had this issue
  9. Hello; I scored a good deal on an LG 55UB9500 4K TV and am pretty stoked to be putting it though its paces. However I ran into a problem with Netflix and Youtube, as neither of them will stream in 4K. I found the issue with Netflix is that it will only stream in 4K to the smart apps native to the TV. Here's an article by former EIC of MaximumPC Gorden Ma Ung TL;DR http://www.pcworld.com/article/2858474/why-you-cant-get-4k-netflix-and-amazon-on-a-pc-or-mac-even-though-theyre-capable.html So is Youtube the same issue? I can use the TV's native app and get 4K content, but not if I'm streaming it from my PC Yes my PC can handle it and yes my internet can handle it (R9 290, and 50MB net) Games can be played in 4K so we're good there. Why can't I Youtube in 4K? Youtube doesn't really translate well to an app due to the realtively short duration of each clip and the number you plow through in 30 mins jumping around and such. Thanks for any insight!
  10. this is my understanding too - so using HDMI 1.4 shouldn't be an issue either (you don't need 2.0 as it's not a 4K signal, correct?)
  11. Updated profile - GPU is now an R9 290 The screen was my thought too, but I ran into some weird issues. On the first boot - half the screen was black and half was static (cut horizontally). When I tried to add a custom resolution it crapped out again. This is on a relatively fresh OS and Driver install (maybe a month old)
  12. I posted this on AMD forums but no responses yet so I'll throw it up here to see what people think - Should screen type play a role in the ability to use VSR? I could turn VSR on but other than turning it on it did nothing. No additional resolutions were available because all that was selectable was the same list as usual which you see on a TV output. I wish I had taken a snap shot but I was just messing around and didn't think about it. Has anyone tried using VSR on a TV (LED or Plasma?)
  13. It's a bit of a dream of mine to get something like a 55" 4K TV to use for PC gaming. I've currently got a single R9 290, and yes I know I won't get a very high Frame Rate on newer games, however I've got a decades old backlog, so I'm not concerned about that particular issue. The big Q I have is - would I be able to get 60Hz by using a DVI to HDMI cable? (since the 290 does not have HDMI 2.0?
  14. Looks like the problem is a known issue with these monitors and with DP - The monitor tries to power the PC through the 20th pin (yah that doesn't sound right to me either) so either you look for a special DP cable with no 20th pin or you put tape over it DVI to HDMI cable should solve the issue. Thanks all!!
  15. These are male/male Displayport cables - no adapter in there. However given the results I have suggest to him to get a DVI to HDMI cable so as to allow him to use the HDMI out on the GPU to the DVI in on the 2nd monitor
  16. Reinstall of windows is not an option (I'm remote) There are no HDMI ports on the Dell U2412m monitors Sorry I'm not sure what an Active DP cable is? Please explain active DP cables and how they would be different in this instance?
  17. For Xmas my brother got a new EVGA GTX 980SC and a second Dell U2412m. He's moving from a 580. This is causing a small amount of grief because he has no Displayport cables - so he ran out and got a couple (figured might as well have them both hooked up the same. Neither his old monitor nor his new one show any kind of display with *either* DP plugged in on any output on the GPU (there are 3 on this card). In some instances the Monitor OSD will stop being accessible. (you click the OSD button nothing happens) Is is possible this is a case of TWO bad DP cables at the same time? We do heard the KERPLUNK windows hardware recognition sound when we try one of the permutations but none show anything on screen ever. We believe the GPU is not the issue, but only base this on the fact that the monitor will work on the single DVI cable. Any thoughts on what else to try? I've told him to head back to the store, ask them to test the cables and see if they can offer advice...
  18. I'm already looking for an excuse to jump up to the X99 series. I want all those SATA6 ports so I can RAID like 4 500GB SSD's and haz all the speedz. (lulz)
  19. Thanks for all the answers - but I guess at the end of the day the real answer is that any of the fans you've all listed above are better than the Corsair Stock fans.
  20. Hmmmm well that sucks. I never knew I couldn't create a RAID spanning the 2 controllers.... Fuck me. Thanks for the feedback!
  21. Hello, I have an ASUS P8z68-v Pro mobo. It has 4 SATA6 ports - two Intel (faster) and two Marvell (not as fast) If I RAID0 three SSDs (Two SSDs on Intel and one on Marvell) will the entire RAID slow to the max performance of the Marvell controller or will I see fluctuations in performance when the RAID is only utilizing data on the SSDs which is accessible via the Intel controller? Preemptively - I'm RAIDing them in RAID0 because I don't care if I lose the data and I would rather deal with one drive at 750GB than 3 separate ones at 250GB each. I know I won't see much of a bump in performance on day-to-day activities.
  22. I could replace the rad fans as well but for now just looking at Case fans. Are these the Stock fans?
  23. i know nothing about fans but an annoyed at how loud my Corsair stock fans are - 120mm and 200mm. Which Noctua models should I get? I don't care about price I just want quiet cooling. Noctua doesn't make a 200mm variant (that NCIX carries at least) and so I'm not sure what to do to replace the 200mm fan...??
  24. I've posted this around other sites before and I've never had a solution that actually works, so I'm trying again. I have two Dell U3011 monitors. If they ever go into sleep mode it can sometimes impact the desktop icon setup as the PC will suddenly think there is only 1 monitor. (so it rearranges all of the icons). When the monitors are turned back on or awaken from sleep the icons will be splatter all over. One is attached via DisplayPort and the other via DVI. This has been a long standing issue and has shown up on both AMD and Nvidia cards. I believe it started when I began using a DP input vs using 2 DVI. I could go back to two DVI but given the industry trend is moving to DP due to it's bandwidth I'd like to try and understand what the root issue is - if it is in fact due to using a DP cable. Thoughts?
