  1. I ended up contanting nordvpn support and getting a refund so I can change over to the cheaper tier without nordlocker
  2. Am I dumdum for thinking I could use nordlocker like dropbox? cause the app just had an aneurysm when i tried to move my 85GBs worth of files i had on my dropbox. i'm tempted to see if i can get the cost of Nordlocker in the package i got refunded of just the entire thing and buy the one with just VPN/Password manager and then get google 1 for my cloud storage, since it's literally 50 cents for the first month and then around 3 bucks for 100GB on my drive. And even at full price, the 200GB tier is nearly 10 bucks cheaper than Dropbox’ cheapest offering. it's just that i hate dropbox and it's already tried to kamikaze years worth of photos, not to mention how infuriating it is EVERY. SINGLE. TIME I need to access it, it’s gotta tell me about some new stuff or try to upsell me on their 20/Mo tier when I literally have 85/2000GB and have had that for years. regardless i'm going to keep at least three copies of the files (cloud, on-machine and on a separate drive/enclosure, maybe even at my parents house) just in case.
  3. it's an older model AVR (from 2008) and only has optical/coax digital audio in. i think i have to change something in the system menu of it to fix the issue, i'm just waiting for a replacement remote so i can actually try that (it's currently stuck in shenzen and bravia sync doesnt allow me to access that specific menu!) i have the PC connected through HDMI to the TV which then has a digital optical cable going to the receiver. the frustrating thing is that it did work without the APO drivers i used, but only with very specific apps like the dedicated netflix app.
  4. i actually ended up randomly finding out something that will confirm for sure. turns out easy anti-cheat games will refuse to run if you have driver signature enforcement disabled!
  5. I know how to disable it, but i need to know how i can verify its status and know for certain that disabling it (pressing 7/F7 on startup options) actually worked!
  6. how do i check if i have actually enabled or disabled driver signature enforcement??? is there some command i can use in terminal to verify?
  7. Hey guys, i've been struggling for a long time getting my Sony DAV-DZ860W to work properly with my computer and i've finally got it to work almost completely by installing some APO drivers and FX configurator as well as Dolby home theatre V4. now i have this issue where the Left and Right channel speakers bleed into the centre channel and rear right/left speakers. is there any way to fix this? it makes the normal audio sound bad and stereo content completely unbearable! i think there may be some things i can change in the system menu, but as i lack the apropriate remote i cant seem to access it using my sony bravia TV and bravia-sync feature.
  8. aaand I was just informed I could not mount it by the chimney as it leaks... looking for other suitable spots as I type this.
  9. I just tried wall-mounting it pretty much dead centre next to the chimney and I was honestly a bit shocked at how good the reception in the kitchen was. the kitchen is about a few meters diagonal through the chimney on the first floor. I am considering trying a spot on the 1st floor though and seeing if reception is acceptable on all floors though.
  10. My parents just got fiber and they want to move their WiFi router to another spot (the model is a TP-link archer C3200) the house is roughly 10x10 meters and the walls are around 6cm or 2.5 inches thick with am old chimney in the center of the building, I've been trying to figure out where to mount it and I'm unsure if it's a good idea to wall mount it on the second floor on one end of the house. what would the difference be between mounting it horizontal on the wall, or om the slanted ceiling or even on the ceiling? i could also mount it on the wall on the floor directly bellow, but that would make routing the Ethernet cable trickier. thanks in advance for any input as I am not very experienced in working with wireless networking stuff as all my devices use cables where possible.
  11. I actually gave Disney+ a shot last night, watched the latest Doctor Strange movie. it seemed to allow me to watch 4k in browser and the app on PC, but there was still the issue where I could only get the higher bitrate on the TV app. they do actually seem to be the better service in regards to being transparent of what fidelity their content is available in.
  12. what process do you use to rip Blurays/UHD? I read somewhere that I could use makeMKV and then run the file through handbrake, but does that give me stuff like allowing me to change subtitles, audio track etc? I'm planning on using a plex server for media server.
  13. I've been tinkering and trying a bunch of things with my friends new LG 4k OLED tv and I'm amazed by the quality and how good 1080p and even as low as 480p content looks on it. BUT I have found that is it quite frustrating when using streaming services such as Netflix and Prime video as I currently do not have the UHD tier on Netflix, I was considering just upgrading for a month to check it out, but decided against it when I found that it was completely impossible to find any source that told me what resolution any specific content was. i don't think I'll ever go with the UHD tier for streaming services for this reason and rather purchase UHD blurays, rip and put them on my media server as I do not trust the streaming services to actually be honest and deliver the content in the resolution I paid for thoughts? is there a way to see what resolution a movie/series is available at on Netflix, Prime, Disney or others? edit: looking closer i realized Netflix and prime DO actually tell you the resolution of content, but it's not much better than what I first thought. Netflix shows if content is HD or 4k etc, but if you don't have the 4k tier, it will only say HD even if a piece of content is available in 4k Prime seemingly only shows what resolution the content is available at if it is 4K.
  14. well that's a shame, but I at least have some sort of explanation for my issue now. i was considering doing this anyway, but do you have any recommendations/guides on how to rip my dvd's and blurays, compress them (more pertinent for the few blurays I own) and put them on my plex server? I already have a 1tb (2x 1tb drives in raid) my computer with dvd/bluray drives in it is windows 10 so I could rip it to that and just transfer over Ethernet to my plex server (I knew I had to figure that out sooner or later...) basically I need a tutorial on how to process my discs into a plex friendly format
  15. does the xbox use some other standard? cause surround seemed to work just fine through optical on that and the 360... am I just misunderstanding something here
