nfsm654's Achievements

  1. I would like either the keyboard or the mouse. Both of mine are starting to fall apart, the mouse more so. So an upgrade in either department would be a huge plus.
  2. I don't necessarily need a new SSD, but I'd love to have a second one to put more games and stuff on. I've already nearly maxed the current one I have with Windows, programs and documents already.
  3. The Kiro would be a damn fine mouse to have. It's simple and elegant yet ambidextrous, which is good for those times where you need left-handed mousing. Which is something I do a lot, even though I am a right-hander.
  4. So, I decided on the 850 Pro. Thanks for the recommendations, everybody. So far, so good, drive wise. If only Windows wasn't going tits-up at the moment.
  5. That's good to hear. 830s are from the 2011 days, correct?
  6. Ah, thanks for the correction. I've always seen it marketed as just "850 Pro". Practically everyone I know with a high-end rig runs either an 840 or 850, and I've heard the same from them also. Thanks for the input.
  7. Samsung claims a 2 million hour MTBF, and the Savage for 1 million hours, but I don't think I'll be using the drives for 100-200 years. So you think the EVO is better than both the Pro and Savage? In terms of value, I assume?
  8. What makes the 850 Pro better than the Savage, in your opinion?
  9. I'm in the market for a new SSD, and I am having a tough time deciding between these two drives. I have read excellent reviews on both, and benchmarks show both drives run consistently near their advertised speed. However, there is a $50 AU price premium on the 850 Pro. That premium, however, gets me 10 years of warranty, over the HyperX's 3 years, as well as an extra 16GB of storage. It doesn't sound like much, but to me that's 30 hours of video, or a couple of games. The colour of either drive doesn't really matter. In my case, it will most likely be mounted behind the motherboard tray, or if I do mount it in the drive rack, it's won't be visible. What are your experiences with both of these drives? Is the 850 Pro worth the extra cost over the HyperX? Why? Do either of the drives come with any cool features that might not be printed on the box?
  10. Since I don't have my Win10 install drive on me, could you recommend a very light version of Linux or something I could use to run a backup? The second system isn't mine so I'd prefer not to leave my information on it.
  11. It was an upgrade from Windows 8.1. It has been running perfectly since launch week, though.
  12. Description: So, the problem I am having with Windows right now is that it won't boot. But, there is some backstory as to what happened. Not much, but hopefully it will provide some insight. It happened rather suddenly, I had installed no new programs or drivers, nor had I visited any funky websites or opened funny email attachments. The first thing I tried to open last night, was DiRT Rally. It runs perfectly smoothly on normal days. Loads in no time, and runs at a decent 50fps. Except this time, it didn't boot up for at least 10 minutes. I usually have task manager open, to monitor individual programs and their resource usage. I noticed DiRT was using 10% CPU, and less than 1MB of RAM, no disk usage. I tried ending the program, and it didn't disappear from task manager for at least 15 minutes. After that, I decided to try Fallout 4. It has a few mods installed, latest version and all. It took 5 minutes for the menu to pop up, but I couldn't launch the game. Background programs seemed to run sluggish, such as Nexus Mod Manager, Skype, Chrome and MSI Afterburner. After that, I just shutdown my computer and left it off overnight. I came back this morning, and started it. The BIOS started as normal, and POSTed just fine, but sat on the ASRock boot splash screen for 20 minutes before I turned it off. I have tried a few more times since then, and I've tried disabling my overclock, as well as resetting the CMOS. Windows Self Repair tool doesn't work, it loads up, but sits on a black screen with nothing but the mouse cursor. System Specs: -Windows 10 Professional 64-bit. -AMD Phenom II X4 840 (overclocked to 4.03GHz with 1.525v, currently reverted to stock after CMOS reset.) -ASRock 970 Extreme4 (BIOS is the latest version, as far as I know.) -8GB of 1333MHz DDR3 RAM -Gigabyte GeForce GTX 750 Ti Black Edition (overclocked to 1400MHz on the core with +20mV, and 2800MHz on the memory.) -Fractal Design Edison M 750W PSU I unfortunately do not have any screenshots, or error messages. Although, I didn't receive any errors. Right now, I'm going to test my hard drive in another system, to make sure it's not dying/dead. Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks very much,
  13. I have a cheap LCD TV which I intend to use as a secondary monitor but I am having trouble with it being picked up via HDMI. At the moment, I have it hooked up from a DVI adapter to VGA which is working fine, but I wanted to switch it over to HDMI. My primary display is also a LCD TV, running through HDMI, and it has worked as well as it can for years. So far in my troubleshooting I have discovered: Both HDMI ports on my graphics card are working. -Tested both with my primary display. All 3 HDMI cords I have tried are working. -Tested with my primary display on my PC and Xbox. The HDMI port on my secondary TV is working. -Tested with my Xbox. The secondary display is only detected via VGA. Even though both HDMI ports on my graphics card are marketed for 4K via 2 HDMI 1.4 cables, they can run separate displays. -Tested by having both ports plugged in simultaneously to different HDMI ports on my primary display. My PC is running Windows 10 Pro, with a Gigabyte GTX 750 Ti. I am running the latest Windows updates and nVidia drivers (the one that supports MGSV and Mad Max). Any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated.
  14. I use a 12 year old Microsoft optical mouse for gaming. It does the job but it'd be nice to have something more modern.
