CRA5HMAN reacted to Bombastinator in Monitor issue-Could it be the GPU?
People will likely want stats on the machine itself.  Every component in the machine or, if it’s an OEM pre-built or laptop, what model it is.   There is a vast range of possible things and some of them will have different possible issues.  Idle and load temps may also be wanted. There are machine specs in the sig, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that is the machine being referred to.

Assuming this is a not-that-old whitebox with adequate PSU, and no heat issue,  There still are a few things that could be more likely than GPU depending on several things.  One of which is exactly when it turns off. Very little is random with computers though pseudo random happens.  When someone say “randomly” it usually isn’t.  Not ruling out a video card problem though.

If it only happened one time, and didn't happen again (yet), I wouldn't immediately buy another PSU. You could potentially have video card driver issues or even windows driver issues. Try downloading DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) and uninstall all video card drivers and reinstall. Do some tests on the PSU, like stress tests on the GPU and CPU or change settings in games while monitoring CPU and GPU power usage. Do you hear any noises coming from your PC, particularly near your PSU? Have you dusted your case out, and dusted out the fan of your PSU?

At $270 vs 370 CAD the RX 590 is the easy choice IMO, it's still perfectly fine for 1080p high settings or above gaming.

And you probably want an R5 3600 with 3600mhz CL 17/18 RAM

What's the total budget for everything?

CRA5HMAN reacted to Bloody-George in Helping a friend with a new gaming rig-CPU Question
The 2700 is a bit overkill for gaming, listening to music and watching videos. None of the games you mentioned put a lot of pressure on the CPU, and the extra cores and threads of the Ryzen 7 would only make a difference in productivity scenarios. I'd get the Ryzen 5 chip. However, if the price of the 3600 is similar in Canada, and if your friend decides to use productivity-orientated tasks in the future, then the 2700 is a good choice. But only if.

The MSI B450 Tomahawk is a great choice for a good price. I've got one myself, and it's a damn great mobo.

As for the graphics card, the 1660Ti is more expensive than the Radeon choice as far as I know. The difference in performance is incremental, so I'd stick with the RX 590.

You can easily get an RX 5700 for that budget. Aftermarket cards are as much as an RX 5700 XT though...

The 3600 with fast RAM is the easy choice for gaming.

I just watched this video last night coincidentally.  It’s not entirely about comparing those 2 cards ( he also compares them with a Founder’s edition) but he summarizes the differences between the 2 evga cards really well.  They are also the 2080 Ti versions but the differences are probably consistent among most offerings. Hope it helps you .

I have two 8GB sticks of the HyperX Predator 2400mhz CL12, and both sticks (bought separately at different dates) easily overclock to 3000Mhz CL15 at 1.35V, so I say you overclock them instead and see if it benefits you

At this point, not really.  You're in good shape as it is.

If you do upgrade, go with an 2x8GB set and sell the 4x set.  3000 or 3200Mhz.

But really, no necessary with your setup.

Controlling this is going to be annoying, at best.

Have you considered picking up a cheap streaming box for the TV? Basically any of the Roku, Android TV, Apple TV, WD Live TV (heh, if you can find one), Amazon Fire TV, ChromeCast, etc, would all work great for this. Even something like a Raspberry Pi would likely be totally fine.

Running an HDMI cable, as you tried, can work. You'll want to Duplicate displays instead of extending the desktop. Controlling the video is going to be problematic - but largely depends on how far away your computer is. A good wireless keyboard/mouse might work, if the distances aren't too far. But having something local to control w/ a remote or kb/m would be better.

Windows 7 doesn't display a taskbar on secondary monitors. Just a desktop background is exactly what you are supposed to see. Just drag a Window from your main monitor over to the secondary and it will work just fine. It will be a bit awkward without being able to see both screens, but it should work.

There's no solution except to re-rip them. I don't have experience with WMA files, so the bitrate may ore may not be comparable to mp3. If the compression is more efficient, the quality may be acceptable. If you're really curious, re-rip a CD to FLAC and do a comparo.

Yes 18AWG would be 18gauge, and that would also explain why the MNPC billet combs will not work as they are a larger diameter. Since it's 16AWG it will be tough to find compatible cable combs unless it is something ensource makes specifically for their cables since it's larger.
