Spartaton reacted to Fleetscut in Efficiency: printing n times vs append n times, then print
are you printing to the screen or a file? the reason printing to a screen is so slow is that the buffer used to hold the data has to be flushed constantly. if you dont want to see live updates of every line then look to see if the language you are using has a way to control how often the buffer is flushed to the screen. or just write to a file.

It's a syntax error so adding that "if" won't solve it. There is one ) missing:

    print(mergeSort([random.randint(-1000,1000) for i in range(10000)])

Spartaton got a reaction from zindan in Anyone good at AI ?
Generally it's not too hard to make game AI that could beat anyone. All it comes down to are the rules, what a player can do, and game theory (if applicable). Take connect 4 for example, it's a solved game; the first player will always win when playing perfectly, even against a perfect opponent. So it would be pretty easy to make a perfect bot for that game. I didn't read everything above, but it sounds like your game is simple, but complicated enough, so you may not be able to create an unbeatable bot without machine learning. However, depending on the rules and what a player can do, you could probably make a bot that's pretty hard to beat. After all, the bot doesn't need to be perfect, it just needs to be better than the people it plays against.

P.S. Since I make games I'd like to point out that games don't really use artificial intelligence in terms of the actual bots you might play with/against. A term I like to use is artificial stupidity. They miss their first shots when you pop out of cover, they don't all shoot you at the same time, stuff like that. Bots aren't there to be perfect, they're there to make the game fun.

Spartaton got a reaction from LapX in Canadian telecom giants push for country wide blacklist of sites
sumofus.org is saying that Bell, Cineplex, Rogers, and Shaw  "are pushing to create an internet "blacklist" of certain websites that all internet service providers in Canada would legally have to block.", called the "Internet Piracy Review Agency" (IPRA), with no court oversight. According to sumofus.org the vote is happening tomorrow.  Currently there is a petition on sumofus.org to "stop the corporate control over our internet". In the article on huffingtonpost.ca, comments from the companies behind this push seem to unanimously say that this is to fight against piracy. Rob Malcolmson (senior VP at Bell) said "Many of the most prominent global players in the piracy ecosystem operate out of Canada as a relative safe harbour, and Canadians made 1.88 billion visits to piracy sites last year.".

I think it's pretty obvious that this is a bad thing for us consumers and should be stopped. This is a very slippery slope leading towards the banning of any site, not just those meant for pirating. Since there is no court oversight to this blacklist it probably wouldn't be that hard, or take them that long, to start using this blacklist to their advantage. Imagine if Shaw and Rogers (owners of Canadian streaming service Shomi) used their influence to put any competitor (such as Netflix) on this blacklist.

Happening to me too. And some friends too. Many posts on it on internet, nobody know what it is.

What we know: it's new, doenst seems to be specific at Intel or AMD plateform, neither GPU (Happened on Radeon users and on 9XX and 10XX gtx). It's not related to anti-viruses either, tested with Malwarebyte;Kaspersky; Esset;..

But what we know is that it only appears on Windows 10 PC that aren't updated to the "creator update". I also saw that most of users experiencing this problem are gamers, might be due to the over-CPU usage, or maybe a Windows ad for the Creator Update that auto-leave when a process is running in fullscreen.

PLEASE, if you're experiencing the same problem, write your  pc specs, if you're using steam, your windows version, what anti-viruses are you using.

EDIT: We found the problem, it seems to be a Microsoft Office Activator. (Found via checking logs.)

Alright, we have selected our winners!!!

@Plavi and @willp3, you have 72 hours to respond to the DMs I am sending you right now. If we do not receive a reply in that time, new winners will be chosen! Since both said that the Blade would be their choice, it's on a "first replied first served" basis. (for clarity - what this means is that the first winner to reply will get their choice between the two laptops, and the second winner to reply will get the laptop that the first winner did not choose. This does not mean that we're only giving away one laptop...)

    Thanks everyone.

    EDIT2:

Alright, so @Plavi has officially claimed the New Blade! Congrats on winning

But, unfortunately for @willp3, he did not respond in time to claim his prize...

It will be fine to use the easy access slots for the new 16GB, the GT70 is pretty lenient on RAM(I own one with 4+4+8GB). The other two slots are accessible by removing the keyboard BTW.

Spartaton reacted to Lotus in My First Build! Can I get some help?
It looks like you spent money in areas that really don't matter, and didn't spend money in areas that do. You can easily get away with a $75 PSU with the wattage of your system. Power efficiency isn't critical here. You only need to focus on reliable and stable power with good ripple suppression. You also could easily get away with a $100 Z97 MoBo. Ignore the word "gaming" because in a MoBo all you care about is compatibility, featureset, power delivery, and reliability. That case also doesn't really suit my tastes and isn't a cheap case either. You also failed to get an aftermarket CPU cooler despite clearly going for overclocking with that Z chipset motherboard and K series intel CPU. If you're not going for overclocking, then you're wasting money. You also spend way too much money on your HDD and don't bother getting an SSD. For that same cost of the HDD you could easily get an SSD and HDD dual drive system. Lastly, if this is an all-rounder including gaming, you really skimped on the GPU. At this price point you could easily include something better, especially considering all the savings you can find in your build from components like the PSU and MoBo.
