  1. -snip-

After all, this is a competition, and some people will not vote for what is best for the competition, but only for what is best for themselves. Requiring voting may lead to some seriously messed up results.

TL:DR The builds need to be a bit more diverse for more voting to occur, as everyone builds what they believe is best. There needs to be more options in the build, to make people realize that there are other ways to build it that could be better, such as different allocations of budget, instead of having it come down to who system has the better specs and does the best in benchmarks.

That is an unfortunate part of having constrictive budgets. We are all people who enjoy building PCs and are at least somewhat knowledgeable on the topic, which leads to similar decisions regarding parts. I want to encourage people to refrain from entering if there is already a build entered which is very similar and they would be comfortable voting for it. Voting will never be required on the part of participants if I have anything to say about it.

In the past, the most votes have come in the most well-known contests (such as Linus' Rig Done Right), which is why we asked Slick to mention the Build-Offs on the WAN Show so they got more attention. Unfortunately he did it during the afterparty and fewer people heard it (and there is no archive of the afterparty that I know of). It was definitely still appreciated though, and I hope it will help with future voting.

  2. Welcome to the 60th LTT Build-Off! The rules and previous contests can be found here.

Thank you @terrytek for suggesting the challenge.

    Budget: $750

    Speakers/Headphones: No

    Mouse: Yes

    Keyboard: Yes

    Monitor: No

    Submissions: February 9th through 14th

    Voting: February 15th through 19th

Pretty standard budget machine for a special someone. Let's assume that person wants to do a little gaming, so please include an APU or discrete GPU. Also, this build should have USB 3 and eSATA capability.

  3. We're allowed to vote for ourselves, right? Or no?

Please read the rules in the main thread linked in every contest OP.

    Under "Voting," it states:

    2. Please do not vote for yourself (votes are public and you will be disqualified if you do). If you are caught making fake accounts in order to get extra votes you will be banned from participating in the future.

So no, you may not vote for yourself if you want your entry to count.

  4. Well i might help for the build contest since it was my idea but dont know if @CornOnJacob will approve.

My idea was to be one of the official creator of the build contest

I was thinking of taking ownership of this tread which i will ask the moderators

then again hope that CornOnJacob could see this

Yeah. I have time to help out with it too. We can be co-workers on the build offs IFF the mods and CornOnJacob are ok with it.

    But @CornOnJacob   PLEASE COME BACK!

I wish I had more time for the forum too guys. I would definitely be open to letting you post contests when I can't, but I would rather not change ownership of the thread.

We can discuss this further in a PM.

  5. From the PCPP source code:

    Since you took the time to look at the page source, here's an ascii art rendition of a famous spider (1). And for what it's worth, PCPartPicker pays its server bills on time and with real money rather than renditions of spiders. Seriously, you're still reading this? @@@@@@@@@@@ @@ @@@@@@@@ @@ @@@@ @@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @@@ @@@@ @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @@@@ @@ @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@ @@ @@ @@@@@@@@@ @@ @@@@ @@ @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @@ @@@@ @@@@@@@ @@@ @@@@ @@ @@ @@@@@@@@@@ @@@@ @@ @@ @@ @@@@@@@@@@@ @@ @@ @@@@@@ @ @@ @ @@ @ @@ @ @ @ @ @ @ @ (1) www.27bslash6.com/overdue.html

OT: This is really cool. Smaller implementations of heart rate sensors, for example, means more space for bigger batteries.

  6. The hardware consists of a dual core Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 processor (the same processor that was used in the first Android-powered Motorola Droid RAZR)...I am expecting the Google Glass hardware to go through another stage of evolution before it’s ready for a primetime consumer release. That’s partially because Texas Instruments no longer support the OMAP chipset and I’m sure Google won’t simply swap out the processor, but will take the time to further refine the hardware design.

What's with Google using Texas Instruments chips? The Moto 360 really suffered from it, and the preview Google Glass already had bad battery life.

  7. Not on topic, but senior year is worse. College apps. Trust me. Harder course load. Take it from a Senior.

I guess it just seems bad because I've only experienced 11th grade so far. At least college apps are done by the time winter comes around. I'm taking 4 AP classes right now, and next year I'll probably drop it down to 3, so that's why I'm expecting it to be easier.

  8. Wonderful! Now we just need some approval by @CornOnJacob.

Yea either if is me or the forum is losing its shine. Lost a few good members.

Even though he is FRICKING online, looking at the community index.

IDK if you were talking about me or ddbtkd456, but I wasn't online when you posted. It really is a shame that so many people are leaving, but it's not like the community is dying. A few notable people are gone, but many new ones are joining.

Just because a few people have left doesn't necessarily mean the community is dying. Stuff happens, people get busy with life, things change. I'm sure someone else could take over setting up the build-off threads. One of us could probably do it, (though it helps to be a mod to be able to manipulate the threads/posts).

I can definitely still keep this running, I just get busy. I don't know your age (or the age of the other participants), but I'm a junior in high school which is the hardest, busiest year (even more than senior year) if you are planning to go to a high-caliber college (which I hope to do). I'm lucky if I make one post on the forum per day.

Thanks for your suggestions guys! Really appreciate them :)
