Just read that new AM5 AGESA 1006 from earlier this month should significantly reduce boot times. Since it is recommended to get the new BIOS version, this is a quality of life improvement that makes it worth the time. 😉

I'm already running 1.0.0.6 and it's still kinda slow but tbf I'm also always cold booting since te desk gets disconnected from power entirely when I'm not using it (0,45€/KWh do add up quite a bit over time)

AMD mainboards take a quite a long time to boot because of "memory training". This is just speculation on my part, but maybe the SOC/IOD voltage is sometimes too aggressively increased to hit the required DDR frequency and latency. The training is done every time booting and I get slightly different CPU SOC voltages (If I'm not mistaken).  (I had 1.225V yesterday  and 1.279V today with DDR6000 32-38-38-96)

A combination of poor silicon (memory controller), a lack of temperature sensors in the vicinity and excessive voltage could result in a hotspot and eventually a short circuit.

before turning off EXPO (for the time beien) I saw 1.38V on SoC. that’s what I get for leaving it on auto I guess. Also interesting to note that memory training happens on every boot, I just thought the server 10gig card took so long because of network stack shenanigans 😅

Why is the load mechanism missing?

probably because the person ran into the same problem as me and realized that their cooler isn't actually compatible with AM5 and decided to go the janky route of keeping the CPU in with the cooler mounting pressure. NGL I thought about doing the same for a second but instead I decided to run with a wraith spire at 100% and just did nothing more than windows installation until I waited for parts.

I'll let you decide which way was worse.

  4. I suspect the usual "motherboard AI super automatic overclocking you definitely agreed to when not checking all bios setting hidden 6 levels deep" to be culprit.

I went through a couple of settings, mostly Asus multi core enhancement and some power features stood out, begging to cause some trouble so they got deactivated.

Well, I shall see if mine blows up now 🤷‍♂️

At first i was thinking about RTX 3070, but it has only 8GB of VRAM

Funnily enough, even with 24GB of VRAM I never saw any game use more than 8 (Except that one time where I hit a bug in another game which caused a VRAM leak) but a bit of "futureproofing" might not be a bad idea. I'd say either wait a little longer and see if something decent gets in your price range or wait for next gen GPUs and watch the fire sale going on.

Anyone have experience sim-ing with the Quest 2 headset? Is the experience good?

I've been contemplating between replacing my broken TV or getting a VR headset.

The simjunkie is me is shivering right now after over 1 year of no sim racing.

I haven’t messed with VR in a while but imo displays are just that much more comfortable over time and way easier to use.  Sure, immersion is unparalleled and it is awesome but even something simple like browsing menus is quite a chore if your particular game isn’t built for it.

if possible I’d advise to test out some VR headsets first to see how you like them.

Guys, i'm trying to get away from PC2 by spending more time in ACC, AMS2, even went back to rFactor 2, but i can't seem to find many players there. The largest race i''ve had so far was with 12PPL in ACC at Monza and most of the time i log in any of those game, there is like 1/10 of the people who are driving in Project Cars 2. I am yet to witness a full lobby. And i watch in YT videos that people are organizing full lobby races. What am i doing wrong ?

I suggest looking at twitch streamers or YouTube videos to find communities you might enjoy. The videos you looked at might just as well already have discord servers linked in their description.

I don't think the i identifier for tech of any nature is trademarked because it has been used for so long and the original company that made the iPhone in Brazil only had a patent for Brazil.   Hyundai has the i30 the i40 and the iload, while apple has the iphone and intel has the i series CPU's. There are too many existing products to be able to claim ownership beyond being the first o trademark iphone and ipad in a few countries. (although apple still tried to get the iphone and ipad trade marks from companies that were already using them through suing them of course ?‍♂️)

At least in the transportation space it has happened before. The original Porsche 911 was model number 901 and they originally wanted to name it that but Peugeot has a trademark for 3 digit numbers with the 2nd digit being a 0 so Porsche had to go with 911 instead.

    https://techcrunch.com/2019/11/04/lemonade-gets-a-nastygram-from-deutsche-telekom-over-its-use-of-magenta-says-it-will-fight/

This Is absurd imo you can't own a color and make it so no other company can use it especially since the company they are suing isn't in the same market as them. If every company trademarked a color pretty soon there would be no colors left and then what. What if a company trademarks the color black and sues t mobile is t mobile prepared to make all letters in their marketing material magenta?

And you guys thought Comcast is evil ?

Sounds about something DT would do and provides further proof to my hypothesis that every ISP needs to be evil.

I’m fairly certain that they won’t be able to pull it off. I.e. how did BMW get away with naming their electric car i3 while Intel had that name on their processor for years?

as @Trik'Stari mentioned it is possible to trademark a specific colour pigment and it is also possible to trademark a specific colour shade in your business area i.e. Kawasaki green in transportation, but that doesn’t stop you from selling green cars, just be some shades off and don’t use that specific colour pigment.

Nvidia wont like this, on the other hand I wouldn’t be surprised if they send over some developers to implement it themselves, like they do with their gameworks stuff.

But yeah, RTX is hard to run and a lot of simracers, especially the ones that can afford RTX will also run 4K TVs or triple monitor setups, so plenty of pixels need to be rendered.

  11. Hey guys, the local Star Citizen Organization got bored of their game and started to wander into sim racing, but since we only got 5 people for now we'd like to get some more people in to make the races more fun.

So I'd like to invite you guys to our Assetto Corsa server to have some friendly races with us. Usually every 2-3 weeks we have a race with different cars on different tracks. All skill levels are welcome.

    Server Name: UOLTT AC Server

    Password: LTTC

The current track is Laguna Seca and we're racing GT4s so Porsche Pack I, Red Pack and this free mod are required to join

There is also a voice chat going on our discord server (link in my signature, separate from the LTT discord)

A few years ago, this claim could have been made with a straight face. Nowadays - not so sure. Both VKB and VPC have vastly superior products now, in terms of technology, ergonomics and durability. They are just insanely expensive. But if you have the dough - TM is no longer king.

Is it just me or does this happen to Thrustmaster a lot?
they look at something and go: "We can do that better and we will charge for it!" so they go out and make a better thing and charge more for it.

People then start to accept that you have to pay the price and buy that new Thrustmaster product.
New manufacturers look at this and ask: "People pay for that? Lets make it even better and charge more." so they go out and make an even better thing and charge a lot more for it.

Cheap people now buy the cheap stuff and people who want the best buy the best they can get and Thustmaster gets left in the middle

I turned my fan to max which fixed the issue but the table is getting really hot so it gonna stay that way? And when I am playing GTA V there is seriously very bad anti aliasing even after turning it up in nvidia settings and game settings.. Any suggestions? The game is running smoothly now

Try to prop it up with something so it has an easier time breathing. As for the anti aliasing, no idea. Might be either the game or the driver overwriting the settings of the other.

    Hey guys,

    I have this laptop https://www.amazon.in/Asus-FX553VE-DM318T-15-6-inch-i7-7700HQ-Graphics/dp/B074ZBNXR7?tag=googinhydr18418-21&tag=googinkenshoo-21&ascsubtag=_k_CjwKCAjw96fkBRA2EiwAKZjFTTdqiTJoP3CW7_pqf4xBLR6ihOsqghYO-_5Rge6HDgLDucIFWBU1DBoCWsgQAvD_BwE_k_&gclid=CjwKCAjw96fkBRA2EiwAKZjFTTdqiTJoP3CW7_pqf4xBLR6ihOsqghYO-_5Rge6HDgLDucIFWBU1DBoCWsgQAvD_BwE

The games work smooth for some time after which they start lagging..

    Any help would be appreciated.

It’s either heat saturation on the coolers or the combination of HDD and 8GB of RAM. Depending on how long your laptop has been running for you might want to crack it open to give it a good cleaning. If it doesn’t improve things you might want to try this

  15. @rsgametechHoly thread necro batman! We almost managed to get a full year of nothing in here ?

FPS got pretty good lately thanks to object container streaming. The citys are still a bit too large to get good frames but anywhere else you can reach 3 digit fps given enough graphics power or small enough resolution. Netcode still sucks and even on SSD you may have the occasional hiccup

Content... is there... if you look close enough. You can make some money with cargo trading, racing nobody ever joins and therefore fail by default, ship or fps combat missions, and there are even some scripted mission chains, but within 10h you've probably seen and done everything that there is now. Planets and moons are cool until you realize how empty they are and doing some sick jumps in a Cyclone is only fun until you flip and destroy it and realize that there is no insurance on in game bought ships.

Any additional stuff between a chip and heatsink adds thermal resistance, slows transfer.

If you add a sheet of that material, you're increasing the thermal resistance in the area that the original heatsink covered (and its thermal paste), so making it worse, but you're slightly enlarging the heat transfer area ... with the mention that the heat transfer from the cpu to the newly gained surface area is weaker than the heat transfer directly between cpu and heatsink through the paste.

Also the heat produced by the cpu is so big that it quickly spreads throughout the heatsink, so the added graphite material won't do much

Let me make a picture for you

    crap.png.143dc40e970910814d8c24ec56e41127.png

the idea was that the thermal pad would be used as TIM as well since that is what it's originally designed for, but like you pointed out the gained surface area might not be able to transfer much heat in the first place and even if most laptop coolers are optimized for specific die area anyway.
