  1. I dont think that there are official number from CIG other than metioning 130-add countrys. BarCitizen seems to be somewhat reprensentive of the distribution. Unfortunately the southern hemisphere seems to be a little under represented. Maybe host your own?
  2. welll we just had one yesterday and I think in 2016 we managed to have 49. December was a bit slow and then Christmas eve and new years eve were on a saturday so we skipped those. The meetups aren't as big as they were back when 2.0 launched but we usually get at least 4 people together. Somettimes we even have things going on with other orgs. On 4th february we were doing tactics training with 11th hour for example.
  3. Since SCs Star engine is based on CryEngine or now the Lumberyard fork by amazon you can use a cutom .xml to change your graphics settings and tweak it to your liking however CIG asks people not to do that since using a custom xml means that they have to drop the debug data your client is sending to them. Even deactivating VSync could already be considered an unwanted change since it isn't present in the options menu yet, but if you only use the console to change your settings the debug data doesn't get dropped, because there is no custom xml detected. Edit: something like this: https://t.co/0RF6N6MH4c
  4. Well compared to our actual org size of almost 3000 our discord server has a relatively low activity of just 183 registered users with only 111 being actual members but looking at the list of people online I can see about 75 right now. We actually saw a little bump in activity and new users thanks tho the recent 2.6.1 update which included Spectrum, but since that is just a cheaper rip off aof Discord without voice channels we're still using Discord heavily and encourage people to mova away from Spectrum for the time being. you can usually find someone to play with and it doesn't even need to be Star Citizen. Going down the list I can see Space Engeneers, Overwatch, NFS '16, World of Tanks, World of Warships, Conan Exiles, Factario, LoL, CS:GO, ARK, Rainbow Six, E:D, Stellaris, For Honor and Warframe. This is just the list of what is currently played and displayed by the various users. As for activity, most of us have full time jobs and are scattered around the globe, so it will always be hard to get everyone online at one time so we decided that saturday 9pm GMT was the best time that could happen, but there is always someone online and is probably up for a game, even if it is just to do some trolling (hint: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFgV942kqKk) all in all we're a very diverse group of people who actually manage to have fun together so you might fit in just right
  5. It bounces constantly between 30 and 60 wich makes the game seem sluggish but I never noticed tearing without it so just deactivate is
  6. Well we got regional servers and especially for Star Marie they worked wonders. However with new stuff there is always new bugs so I happened to get kicked by error codes a few times today and people with higher pings seem to get favoured by netcode. There is also a wierd bug on Nvidia GPUs where you crash until you do a full reinstall with the current driver. Other than that it's pretty playable once you deactivate vsync
  7. Heads up space sim fans Cloud Imperium Games is having a sale. Star Citizen Starter packs for 35 USD (+ VAT if outside of USA) which will be everything you'll need to play the game. If you feel like spending more and getting a head start they're also selling some of the limited racers and fighters as single or discounted double packs. Sale will end on 28th February. Go here: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/15707-V-Day-Sale-Love-Is-In-The-Air-and-Space If you're not sure if you like it there is also a Free Flight going on from now until Sunday 19th giving you access to the game and one of the multi crew ships: The Constellation Andromeda You'll only need a free account and about 31GB of free HDD space. Go here: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/promotions/Valentines-Free-Fly-2017 To get some more performance open the console with ^ while in game and type in r_VSync = 0 SLI and Crossfire users should deactivate their configs with the console command r_MultiGPU = 0
  8. HEDT user here. SC is heavily threaded and has something going on on all 12 of my threads however there is 1 asshole thread that just clogs up one random core. CIG is aware of this problem, but no fix in sight yet. regardless of that, Intels 10 core is just not a very good deal and I'd suggest you to wait around to see pricing and performance of the upcoming Ryzen CPUs
  9. Here's another source: http://venturebeat.com/2016/12/23/star-citizen-and-squadron-42-are-using-amazons-lumberyard-game-engine/ So basically Star Citizen is already running on AWS servers, which is win win for everyone: Amazon gets a big, prestigious customer and maybe some technology, CIG gets some free technology and a big, international server network, maybe a good deal on the servers themself too and we the players get faster client downloads and in some situations lower pings. How much technology Amazon got/will get, how much cheaper CIG got the servers (if at all) and if they will be able to redistribute their rewritten engine is yet unclear. As for the delay, lets say they got hold up for about 2-3 weeks as 2.5 was one of the longer running patches (almost 9 weeks). So either not much has changed, or the switch went really smooth, but in both cases it was really fast for an "engine swap". There are some new optical bugs, but those don't necessarily originate from the new engine (likely though)
  10. No idea sorry. All I know is that I once ordered the wrong RAM for my Supermicro board and tested it in my X99-S to see if it's broken and I could use it just fine (turned out that Supermicro is pretty picky about memory configurations) however since I'm using a 5820K which doesn't feature ECC support from the beginning I can't check if it supports it
  11. ECC RAM does work and I know that Asus is pretty forgiving on the memory configuration as well but I don't know if it will use the ECC feature.
  12. @J0hN_TH3_P4P7T0 unfortunately you'll need and audio mixer that can mix 2 analoge audio sources together. Trying to do this through software will only result in a mixture of tracks on your recording. something like this would do, assuming you're headset isn't USB. Then you're really screwed.
  13. well, you missed the anniversary sale last month where you could get a Star Citizen starter package for 35 USD, but there will also be the holiday sale this Friday. If you're lucky they'll put out another batch of cheap packages, but you'll have to act quick as those are usually sold out within minutes. Also be aware that putting it in the cart does not reserve it for you. This is only valid for Star Citizen (MMO), I do not recall them reducing the Squadron 42 pre-order (singleplayer). If you want both you can get SQ42 as a 15 USD add on to you Star Citizen package, however for some reason those are not publicly in the store. Costumer service might help you here. Other than that you can get a referral code from here and have a little extra money at game start: and if you fell like spending more money you can refer to gyre-teanns guide:
  14. You can go to the member list of any org and filter for them. If we use the UOLTT as example you'd go here: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/orgs/UOLTT/members# There you click on Filters membership and select member. There you can see that of our 2981 total members 2364 have made the right choice for their main org. If you look at Operation Pitchfork you'll see that even though they have a lot more members 87% of that are affiliates. Just saying. I did it the wrong way, 5820K in my gaming rig and E3-1230 v5 in my server. I still can't stream to 2 targets without one suffering. I even started to enslave my HTPC with it's epic J3160 to get where I want.
  15. Usually around events they're attending they make the current build free to play for a week so you can check it out. The last event was CitizenCon early October. Star Citizen is the MMO, Squadron42 is the single player campaign. Star Marine, like Arena Commander, is the ingame simulator, which comes free with either game (Squadron42 version might be limited to offline). And yes, that stupid Squadron42 addon isn't in the store for some reason. You can only find it when you click the Fly Now button on the main page. Customer service might help you out here. Breaking Squadron42 into episodes is in order to release a "finished" product faster (and bank on those who wait for a release). This is also why most of the workforce (artist, designer) is focused on that and since CR wants to surprise us, most of that stuff is kept secret. Hence the appearance of a lot of development but no real progress. I also want to point out that a good 3rd of the bugs they're fighting are remains of old systems that were put into place to have a functioning build for the masses until a better, more suitable system for release was developed. Bugsmasher playlist The demos are heavily scripted because the builds are highly unstable. Doing anything wrong might lead to ugly bugs or straight up crashes. And even sticking to the script still exposed some bugs. I remember the Gamescom demo from 2015 where they showed 2.0. Things didn't go as expected but they did manage to release it 4 months later.
  16. Think Teamspeak, Skype and WhatsApp combined. It works in browser but also has clients for Windows, Android and iOS (linux/OSX in the works) and you don't even need an account to try it out. Just click the link in my sig. As for multiple orgs, you can only join one but affiliate with others. Right now it's only number padding and how that is beneficial in the future is questionable. Edit: depending on how much virtualization you want to do it might be a good idea to splurge the extra on a 5820K or 6800K. You may also want to look at vSphere Hypervisor
  17. If you played 2.0 or later there is not much new stuff going on. Some ships, a new station, a couple more missions and the very basic criminal system. 2.6 is supposed to drop on December 8th and brings us Star Marine, 2 more ships, a new mode for Arena Commander, maybe Spectrum and some more stuff I can't recall right now. The more interesting stuff happens in 3.0 which can be expected end of January. There we were promised the rest of the Stanton system, landing on (some) planets, more sophisticated missions, talking and moving NPCs, trading and I think quantum drive interception was also part of it? Most of the past year was spend on developing tech and tools and finishing the first chapter of Squadron42 which seems to have some issues with bugs right now.
  18. The problem will be to get it stable. My armrests are already moving around a lot on their own, so I wouldn't consider it butt that depends on the chair. I would go for a simple plattform with a hinge. A latch at the bottom to keep the sticks upside down and some drawer rails to keep them upright
  19. You do realize that this doesn't matter and CIG even went ahead and picked up most of the developer that got laid down to help them modify the engine to their needs? This is why they even opened the Frankfurt studio.
  20. Some corrections on your statements: There were exactly 2 release dates given, November 2014 and "2016". November 2014 was the release date for both Star Citizen and Squadron 42 as stated in the Kickstarter campaign. This would have been the 19 mio $ SC/SQ42 as you saw it back in the Kickstarter video and tbh I'm not mad that we didn't get that one as it would never been able to live up to the hype the community created for it. Chis Roberts also saw this and tried to rase even more money after the campaign to get the game to a real AAA level. So with all the additional funding going in late 2012 early 2013 the game we pledged for basically got cancelled and replaced by a much bigger one, increasing the development time from a 2 year medium budget indie game to an estimated 5 years. And this was the first issue as this was never publicly communicated and is still mostly speculation. 2016 was the release for the first chapter of Squadron 42 in its current state that they announced back in October 2015 at CitizenCon. However because of the great improvements they had with procedural planets they wanted to have those included so they moved it to early 2017 (no official statement on that tho). Interestingly, the planets doesn't seem to be the problem at all here as the tech demo showed at Citizen Con 2016 was cut by half and only showed the planet. Sounds like feature creep but if this part is ready while other main components are not, why not include it for a better game experience? Looking at the development logs it looks like their bigger problems right now are FPS and AI. FPS as in the current playable demo doesn't really feel finished to me, which is probably their feeling to, as 2.6 was supposed to give us an overhaul on this and was set to be released soon after CitizenCon 2016. 5 Weeks later we're still waiting for that update. Regarding the long development, you also have to consider that the studio had to be build in the first place. The Kickstarter demo was build by 12 guys, a year later they had I think about 70 people. 2014 there were already 270 hired and as of October 2016 CIG has now 360 developers and they're still hiring. Going through the years you could really feel accelerated development. There were barely any patches before 2014, and especially early 2016 the hammered patch after patch. (there was a nice timeline but I cant find it) All in all, no, Chris made some questionable decisions which shows that he has been absent from game development for a while and his inexperience with crowdfunding that my let SC look like a scam, but it is not dead, it's more alive than ever when you actively follow it and I'm still happy with the progress and looking forward what we will see the next 2-3 Months
  21. Groups are usually just for operations so you can do whatever in the meantime. I also see no problems in switching groups and/or participating in multiple ones, but it might hinder progress within the group.
  22. If unbalanced washing machines, exploding phones and Trump as president of the USA isn't enough for you, lets add drones falling out of the skies to the list. GoPro issued a press release in wich they recall all sold units (2500, since October 23rd) after a small group of owners lost power on their drones mid air. As of yet it is unclear what cases this issue or how many drones are affected. Customers get a full refund, but no replacement unit until the issue is resolved. GoPro press release As seen on techcrunch Well, year of the recall indeed. Can we just recall the whole year, please?
  23. Fun fact: most of the people I converted are waiting for better internet or CIG to get their shit together and not have 30+ GB patches
  24. Seems like you ran the game in a smaller resolution than your canvas (usually the native resolution of your monitor). It's always a good idea to have OBS on a 2nd monitor or at least tab out once to make sure that OBS has picked up you game and is displaying it correctly.
