Bottomburp got a reaction from yoyDIY in Which NAS media server?
In the last few days I just researched and chose a QNAP 431+ for my dad as the features and simplicity seemed top draw. I believe they do a 2 bay version as well.

Should work and I would be happy to do it.

It is not rocket science to suggest that matching SSD's would be better but hey ho... Go for it

Turn off PXE in the bios settings for the onboard network port

Looks like the Pc is waiting for a possible network boot. The bios settings for the network port are normally OFF, ON & On with PXE.   Just set it to ON

Bottomburp reacted to SkilledRebuilds in Hey is there any programs that can save where your Desktop Icons are that you can load from?
I use this on every machine I build.

After severe frustration of having my layout trashed every time I switched screen resolutions.  Sometimes other programs will switch screen size and trash your layout as well.  This program is an answer to this problem, and I thought other people might find it useful too.

TIP: Even with Desktop restore installed, does Windows seem to scramble your icons now every time you reboot, or press F5 to refresh?  If so, after you restore your icons the way you want them, manually move one icon a space or two over and then move it back.  After that Windows should remember their placement for a much longer time.

Once installed,.. rightclick,.. save desktop or save custom - you can even save as a file (for profiles)
Move an icon,.. or all of em around..however you want to,..
    Rightclick,.. restore desktop.

/Mark this as best answer so people in the future can read this post at the top of your thread and find this easily.

Bottomburp got a reaction from sandals100 in Using WD Green Drives in Raid
I can say that WD Green drives will not work on a Dell Perc5 raid card when in any type of raid mode (1 or 0) however they work just fine connected to the card as single drives.

In raid mode they drop out of the array all over the place when power saving and no settings in the Perc cards can fix it.

No big deal but worth knowing.
