FruitBasketSilex got a reaction from dual290x in problems with upgrading to i5-4690k, no post
Actually, you've been wrong on the chipset the entire time, its designed for 97 series boards. 87 series boards require BIOS updates. Regardless, it should work if his BIOS is updated regardless of which 1150 chipset he is using. Something is not right.

The two most likely scenarios are improper mounting or a poorly ventilated case.

That reeks of a improper mounting. The stock cooler isn't amazing but it's not quite that bad.

This is off topic but I have to ask. What "appliance" are you using as a router in your signature? Is your fridge a router?

I expect so, it could have fried the USB controller but I doubt very much it would go any further, there is not that much current allowed over USB.

FruitBasketSilex reacted to RadiatingLight in Gaming and buying the most appropriate CPU(3600 vs 3700)
for now, games don't really use more than 6 cores (and some don't even use 6, many are stuck at 4c/8t max), so getting more threads doesn't improve FPS by nearly anything today. It's impossible to know how games will scale in the future, but eventually they will use more cores.
3600 is a good CPU for now, and it will likely be cheaper to buy the 3600 now and then upgrade to a 4700X a few years down the line when those extra cores are needed.
with 6 cores, you should be fine running apps in the background. Even though a game might use 6c/12t, it uses core 0 the most, and the other cores might be sitting as 20% usage, so there's plenty of headroom for background stuff.

If you read the OP he did a clean install and it's still slow.
It's likely the time the mobo takes to post.

If they're the same price, I'd just take the 32gb. The 16gb is technically faster but not noticeably so.

FruitBasketSilex reacted to Roswell in Need help with this dual booting problem and with windows 7
Boot a live Linux USB and recover her data. W10 tends to wipe the MBR when big patches roll out, then wipe the old partition and extend the W10 install's partition to take advantage of the space.
There's no reason to keep dual booting both because this will continue to happen every time MS rolls out a feature update.
That said, if you want to deal with the headache, you can look up how to manually repair the MBR every time an feature update rolls out.

FruitBasketSilex reacted to Jurrunio in i3 380m vs Celeron 3855U
No it's not. 380M is an Arrandale CPU, basically 1st gen core, while 3855U is a Skylake CPU which is 6th gen core.

FruitBasketSilex reacted to Jurrunio in New CPU Choice and Motherboard selection
3700x. If you only play games extra cores isnt very useful (and bad time to buy 9th gen when 10th gen uses new socket and stuff).
For board compatibility you could go the cheap way with B450 boards that has BIOS flashback (i.e MSI B450 ATX boards and the mATX Mortar, Max boards are preflashed and has fancy user interface), or the less fuss way with X570. Flagship X370/470 board with BIOS flashback is also an option if you're into that.

File permissions are baked into NTFS, but the virus might be stopping windows from changing them so it's worth a shot. If you don't have a usb, maybe dvd-rw?

FruitBasketSilex reacted to blbalsdfkjivbvwerlo3244534 in Help Defeating Virus
IMO Rufus is better than unetbootin because it doesnt add a screen before it boots the usb and it's lightweight
The virus is likely new or undocumented if you cant find anything on the .sys file, therefore most likely not a system file and you can delete it.

FruitBasketSilex got a reaction from PlayStation 2 in i'm bottlenecking my pc what do i need to change ?
This is the correct answer.
ARMA likes strong CPUs, and even taking that into consideration, it's got poor optimization. With a 390x and 4790k I get about 50-60+ on medium, and 50-60+ on max.
