a virus is not the same as malware. keep hitting f8 during bootup. go into safemode with networking and download malwarebytes antimalware and do a quick scan.

do they have wifi you can connect to? if so, this asus thing should be fine but you have to make sure it supports wpa2 or whatever security they are using for their wifi.
Also , why do you need to connect your modem to the asus bridge ? the network chain already has a modem.
