  1. Bump Hoping to get some input before placing an order. Any help appreciated!
  2. I'll start off with what I put together from my research Location/Currency: USA/$USD PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($339.99 @ Newegg) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 65.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($84.99 @ Newegg) Motherboard: Asus SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK 1 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($239.98 @ Newegg) Memory: G.Skill Sniper Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($149.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($119.99 @ B&H) Storage: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($73.98 @ OutletPC) Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE 3X Video Card ($329.99 @ Newegg) Case: Fractal Design Define R5 ATX Mid Tower Case ($119.99 @ NCIX US) Power Supply: Corsair Professional 650W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($94.98 @ Newegg) Monitor: Asus VG248QE 144Hz 24.0" Monitor ($271.99 @ Amazon) Total: $1780.87 Budget is right around where this build lands, ~$1800. But if there's something worth spending a little extra money on I'll go for it. This rig is for light content creation (Rhino 3D is my software of choice) but mostly gaming. Mostly just play CS:GO at the moment, but I would go for some better looking games if my laptop could handle it (spanking noobs on my Lenovo at 20fps!) I don't need to be on the bleeding edge, but I don't plan on upgrading any time soon and I want this to be sufficient for as long as possible. Areas where I think could be improved: 16g of ram - Content creation is just a hobby, not a profession. So I won't be in a hurry to render something crazy for my boss, but I do use these programs often enough where I want it to not be a pain. Is 16 too much? I have 8 on my laptop and things get sluggish when models get complicated, but there may be other things bottle necking me there. Overkill motherboard - Silent PC is very important to me, it's the reasoning for the Define R5. I don't have any sources for this info but I imagine the sound deadening probably insulates heat pretty well, so keeping on top of temperatures will be important. Mark 1 Sabertooth mobo has thermocouples you can have polling the temp of various parts of the case. They are the only reason I'm thinking the Mark 1(besides from the sweet looks of the plastic covers) over the Mark 2 which lacks these temp sensors, but also knocks a decent amount off the cost. Useful or just fancy crap? Graphics card - The monitor I'll be getting is 1920 x 1080, and I already have a (quite old) 1280 x 720 monitor which I'll be using as well. Am I spending too much/not enough on this? Fans - I have no fans listed but I do want some. Anyone have any experience with the Define R5 and setting up for optimal airflow? Other peripherals not needed, I have a decent mouse and just ordered this from Massdrop. Sorry for the wall of text, just wanted to give as much info as I could. Any help is really appreciated. Also any recommendations for some games to play on this setup while the Steam sale is still live would be great. Thanks for reading
  3. Wow, that is a beefy looking graphics card. Pretty soon gonna need more support than the little screws on the expansion slots can give. Decent looking with great specs to match, I'll have this in mind for my future build.
