No problem at all.  I am sure more people will comment with their opinions and suggestions today or tomorrow.  There are a few more ways to skin a cat 🙂

They'll offer other components and hopefully explain why, so you can make the best informed decision.

Yes, always recommend over 60fps for gaming in any build I suggest.  You can get 60fps at 1080p with a 6650XT (system in my sig)  but I took that 5 years out and guessed that a 6800 16GB would be good for 1080p and 1440p then for >60fp as well.  Can't guarantee WHAT fps then, but I would buy that system if I was spending 1000 and had your needs.

For the UK price of that system, build it in pcpartpicker to find a baseline PARTS cost, then add what you consider fair for LABOR to build it.  If that suits you, it's a decent deal.  Though I'd take a 6800 over a 4060 all day every day, as well as a 7600 over a 12400.  But the price may be easier to swallow and have a corresponding and acceptable performance reduction for the price paid.

You didn't give a hard budget number so I am projecting my own views on this, sorry.

i'd err on the side of a very solid AM5 system for a good 5 years of good 1080p gaming... this machine will do 1440p as well, drop settings one click usually.

CPU can be upgraded next gen or the gen after, just drop in.  but the AMD 7600 can play anything.  16GB VRAM on the 6800 can handle any AAA game without running out, as is fast enough to produce good frames at 1440p.  Add more SSD as you see fit.

Do you mean buying any computer or building a computer? Because he should not be afraid to buy a preassembled (aka ready-to-go) one, especially a new one, since if anything is wrong he should be able to mail it back for a return or exchange.

    For example:

Depending on the games - you can go even cheaper.

    ...

    Also:
    - a laptop might be a better solution or all-in-one - so your dad won't have to connect the cords.
    - a tablet (an iPad for example) might be a better choice in some cases, if browsing the web, watching movies and playing random game is all that is needed.

From what you describe, those specs are way overkill and even though you consider the RAM the one that is overkill, that's actually the one part I'd keep 😂

I'd look at a prebuilt PC with a 8600G or 8700G, which would suffice for some mild gaming.

The i5-12400 and i5-12600K are currently on offer (£135 and £180) and I don't think there's any point buying better than that for a desktop PC. Not only that, but you only need modest air cooling for these CPUs, whereas an i9 will need something much beefier.

With OEM prebuilt PCs, if you're happy enough to put in a new M.2 or SATA drive, or add some memory, you'll often find that it increases the price unreasonably to have large capacity (either RAM or storage) and pushes you into buying something higher-end than you need.

I don't know much about HSF+, but your experience with SD cards is probably more due to SD cards being crappy MMC flash than anything to do with the filesystem, as they're generally not the most reliable of storage in general.

Keep in Mind, no Android Tablet will ever hold as long as your iPad 2 did. nearly as much.
Performance is usually lower (and is most likely to degrade over the years), and 1-2 years after Launch, Updates stop coming in.

So basicly it's: If you want a mobile Tablet, iOS over Android.
Windows is an option, if you need the full Desktop OS for specific applications (x86)

Get a second hand first gen i3 or i5 (or whatever AMD had in 2009-2011) laptop and smash in an SSD preferably. It would do just fine if you don't have a lot of cash. And it will crush first hand offerings in terms of £ per performance.

Example: The DELL Latitude E6410 with a first gen Core i5 will go for about 120 euros on second hand sites in the Netherlands. Pair that with an SSD and have really good bang for the buck.

The main draw of a headphone port would be to use the watch while running but...your arms kinda move when running. You want to damage headphones, ears or watch by running that kind of configuration? Eh....
Bluetooth headphones. They make them for running. And if your phone is with you, plug in headphones there.
We're not at the point yet where a watch is really going to supplant phone functions. Maybe a generation to allow for better batteries and more efficient sensors and connectivity so that devices don't entirely suck in the battery department.

Robbietalk reacted to Misanthrope in Youtube will no longer allow video overlays of sponsor logos and product branding, unless Google is paid by the sponsor
Again your analogy is flawed and inaccurate: If you host a party and allow people to show up, but now really talented people like actual musicians and good, even professional bands show up. Your house party turns into a highly profitable business thanks to those musicians that showed up and now you tell em "Ehm, I'm not gonna pay you as much as I promised in the first place" and then when they start selling tshirts you go "Oh no, you can't sell those here otherwise you have to leave my party"
Why is everyone so keen on ignoring this point I am making: Google has been reducing the add revenue shares consistently, that's why in video advertising became a thing.

Robbietalk reacted to meltingtomato in Youtube will no longer allow video overlays of sponsor logos and product branding, unless Google is paid by the sponsor
    Which would be fine if:

    a) the quality of the lemonade (videos) was a constant 1 lemon, 5 cups water, 3 tablespoons sugar (360p video). While both the party organizer and the lemonade stands exist, people wanted higher quality lemonade and hell, even kale smoothies. So the stand owners did just that - make a better product. The stands could only afford to do so because the party holder offered a cut of ticket sales (traditional yt ads). In exchange, these stands were given space to hold their larger and better inventory. The problem arose when the costs of making better lemonade and smoothies became greater than the revenues the stands were getting for their goods, and to sustain themselves. Therefore, the stands turned to a new way to cover the costs of making organic lemonade and smoothies: ORGANIC COOKIES. Thing is, the party owner was upset that they were keeping the inventory on his property, and not giving him money. The stands reacted "we wouldn't be in this situation if you gave us more of the money you made off of us!"

b ) The actual base Youtube ads were targeted to the viewer, rather than just being who paid Google the most. The whole point of online advertising was for ads to be more targeted to what the viewer is interested in, say Corsair, instead of ads for things I don't care for, say Pantene Pro-V (good old P&G). As it is, let's assume Cooler Master does pay Google to sponsor Linus, NCIX, Jay, Paul and a bunch of others, something they do currently with the intro ads. Assuming the rate is identical to what would have to be paid to each individual channel, those channels just lost 45% of their revenue, while being asked to maintain the same quality of content.
TL'DR: I understand what you're trying to say, but the only options for creators to make money was to side-sponsor. If Google doesn't offer a more compelling way for content to be monetized for the capital heavy content creators, they shouldn't be touching the content creators money.

I think I'm gonna start a shovel business. I'll even offer custom versions so that Google, Nvidia, Ubisoft, Comcast, etc can all have their own designs.

My EA shovel only comes with a handle. Everything else is sold separately. The Ubisoft one was great once but it's long since rusted and broken.
