  1. The ODAC is a DAC which will convert the digital signal to an analog straight from the USB port on your PC which you then connect to the O2 to amplify the signal. The sound card does the same but internally. There's no point at all getting the O2/ODAC AND a sound card. Also for your previous question, the O2/ODAC are an external amp/DAC combo. Edit: Just read the above posts. Schiit is not a terrible company. They are great and know what they are doing. One of the few audio companies who don't try ripping off customers. If you're choosing between the Magni/Modi and the O2/ODAC it depends on what you want to hear. The O2/ODAC are more balanced and very neutral sounding so they don't alter the sound too much. The Magni/Modi combo is a bit warmer and for some people, it's nicer to listen to.
  2. I didn't mean to offend you... It's just a common misconception that quite a few people have. I've tried on-ears before (Sennheiser Momentums) and I thought they were quite comfortable! Having said that, Sennheiser do make some of the most comfortable headphones out there. The Modi connects to your PC via USB, which then converts the digital audio signal into an analog signal outside of your PC which is then connected to the amplifier, and finally your headphones. The DAC and amplifier being outside your PC basically removes all possibility for any interference to occur. If you've got any specific questions I can try to help you out.
  3. Take a good look at what @SeanBond has recommended. Amazing value for money. If you want something more, everything Seasonic is generally amazing. They're a bit more expensive but there isn't much that outperform them. The Seasonic X-850 is about $20 more than the EVGA G2 but its performance is second to none and it has quite a bit of leeway as well. HardwareSecrets were able to pull about 1000W from it no problem.
  4. I think you're confusing earphones with headphones. Headphones go either on ear with the cushions being smaller and going on your ear (not inside like earphones do) or they completely surround your ears. As with what everyone else is saying, an external amp/DAC is preferable due to convenience, less electromagnetic interference (not too big a problem due to good quality shielding) and mostly due to sound cards just not being able to give you the same performance that external units do. For the price of the Xonar Phoebus you could get the Schiit Modi + Magni. This combo are a fantastic option for the price and they are also powerful enough to run most heaphones easily in case you choose to upgrade your headphones later on.
  5. Das Keyboard 4 Professional with browns. I bought it mostly for the looks and the no-nonsense, just good build quality attitude of the company. Browns are awesome for the compromise between noisiness and tactile feedback but if I were to buy another keyboard I'd definitely want to try out blues. After spending about $175 AUD on this thing I don't think I'm getting another keyboard for a while though.
  6. Things like the MSI notebook that is basically an ultrabook but can then plug into a full desktop GPU when you need to game. Of course this won't be a portable gaming machine but it will be a very good laptop when you need portable productivity and then a very good PC at home when you want to game. For portable gaming machines I can't look past the Aorus X5. That thing has two 965M's in a sexy chassis. The HP Omen looks great as well. I really love this new shift towards powerful hardware in elegant packages.
  7. Depends on your budget. You'll need to get some games and a few extra controllers with the Wii but the Wii would end up being more fun with your friends. Nothing beats Smash Bros. or Mario Kart with friends.
  8. CDPR are new to games of this scope. They did not realise how much work it would take to achieve what they wanted. I do think they jumped the gun when they announced the first ETA for end of 2014 and then the release date of February, 2015 at that stage of development and their lack of experience with developing games of this scope shows with the delays. Having said that, CDPR are great at what they do and they are also great people. They genuinely care about putting out a good game and I'm glad they delayed the game to make it as good as they can.
  9. Because I want to spend an extra $500 bucks on RAM just to use this PC . Nah I've been wanting a 2011-3 build for a while now and I'm just lacking the money to start so this would be a great help
  10. I have an i7 2600 and a GTX 760. It runs well at 1080p but I'd love to be able to use 4K monitors. I guess with technology, enthusiasts can't ever really be happy with they have
  11. Depends on your personal taste. Both cases are very good but both are very, very different. The 780T is a full tower that has a lot of room, a lot of features and has nice cooling options while the H440 is a beautiful case. It's a mid tower case so it is smaller but it's built sturdier and is just a beautiful case when you build it especially with internal LED's around the window. The cooling isn't as great as the 780T and of course you won't be able to fit as much in the H440 as you would in the 780T but it is still a great case and you wouldn't be let down with either one. If you really needed the optical drive, then 780T but if you want something beautiful and silent, honestly the USB optical drives aren't that bad with a H440 especially if you're only using them every now and then.

Get the HE-500. The headband is more comfortable and they come with velour ear pads. At $500 for all three, I'd choose the HE-500.
  13. You'll probably profit more from using the integrated sound card as the DAC and then using an external amplifier like the Schiit Magni.
  14. I use the Xbox one controller. I think the Xbox controllers are superior to the Playstation controllers in terms of comfort and the triggers especially are much better. Compatibility is also much better as well.
  15. HD598's with a modmic. That's about $215 from DWI and the modmic is $59 (excl. shipping) from PCCG.
  16. International orders are now not going to be taken but orders already taken will still be fulfilled. Sad for those who haven't ordered though.
  17. I do think the $600 MSRP is just a stunt to raise the % off for the product since neither of those products are really ever at that price these days. Either way, it's still a great deal but I do wish their international shipping was a lot better. Grabbed this and the modmic anyway
  18. It's actually more similar to the K702 Anniversary Edition headphones which are also similar to the K712 Pro headphones. Both go for $350+ USD and the massdrop headphone is based off the K702 anniversary edition. At this price the headphones are basically a steal. I'd take them over the HD598's.
  19. One more thing. If you're going to grab a DAC and amp later on why don't you try the 600 ohm version of the DT880? They sound better and are the same price on that massdrop and they will take their time to arrive. So you'd have some time to get a stack to power it and you get better performance out of it too!
  20. Don't worry about the balancing. That can be done easily in software. Keep in mind that Nedy has the Asus Maximus Formula which has much better audio than your motherboard. I say go for it without the amp if you really need to and then if it's really that bad then buy it.
  21. From what I've heard, no. I don't have these but they won't run on onboard very well. In fact low end amps might run into trouble as well. A good low-cost DAC/amp combo is the FiiO E10k which would run these great. If you want to look up whether a certain amp will run these ok check this website out: http://www.audiobot9000.com/match/beyerdynamic/dt-880-250-ohms/with/fiio/e10k They're great for checking whether a certain headphone will work fine with a current amp rather than having to get a new one. Unfortunately they don't have onboard sound comparisons. Generally anything over 100 ohms will need an amp.
  22. Yeah but I like the fact that it's so well balanced. Low bass is I guess a consequence of open-back headphones at this price range. Thanks for all the help I'll be going with the HD 598's and the modmic to boot. This way I won't need the DAC as well
  23. No words can describe the laughter that ensued.
