  1. Card definitely seems to be working well, it was getting pretty much the same as the ethernet speeds when I had the computer right next to the router. Also, on my old Wireless Adapter, it was dropping out and getting very shit speeds in the room right next to the router, whilst the new wireless adapter was fine. And even here upstairs, didn't seem to drop out (it was only the speeds that are the problem)
  2. I wouldn't have thought that that would be the cause of the problem, I just replaced it with a brand new TP-Link WDN4800 ( https://www.pccasegear.com/products/19489 )
  3. Well alright then, thanks very much! That's given me a lot to think about, and the information has been really really useful. Cheers
  4. Alrighty, and if I were to purchase an access point like this one, and just plug it in to the back of my current router, would it give me those new standards of 802.11a/n on top of my already existing 802.11b/g across my network? Or would it be the same as what I already have? Do you reckon the Access Point would make enough of a difference to be worth it, ie is it most likely the cause of the problems I've described at the start? Thanks very much again for the help
  5. I'm currently fancying this as the tool for the job to replace my router, and hopefully get better internet speeds on my computer upstairs. Anything seem out of the ordinary for the Router, or anything I should be aware of? https://www.pccasegear.com/products/33294
  6. Bear in mind I'm thinking in Australian Dollars, and everything in the Tech world seems to be way more expensive over here
  7. Hi Guys, I've recently bought a new computer, and I've moved it upstairs, about 20m away from my router. I have a computer right next to the router, connected via Ethernet that gets around 14.5Mbps down on speedtest.net. When I speedtest my phone up in my room (right next to the new computer) I get around ~1Mbps less (13.5Mbps) down. However, when I speedtest on my computer upstairs, that is also connected via WiFi, I get a very very low 1.5Mbps down on a relatively unstable connection. My question is, what is the best solution to address this problem? I have a fairly old router that came from Telstra, its a Thomson TG782T. I'm not really sure whether or not it would be a best investment in my money to spend $180 on a new decent router (bear in mind my current one is only 802.11b/g), or spend around $40 on a WiFi Repeater to improve the signal upstairs. I just bought a decent new Wireless adapter that has a/b/g/n capability, so I would be able to take advantage of a new router with all that good stuff on the new computer. (Prices in AUD) The problem gets more confusing with the whole idea of how the phone is very fast right next to the computer. EDIT: If I were to get a new router, would I also need a new Modem? I'm still really confused by the whole Router/Modem thing Really appreciate the help guys, Alex
  8. Gday Everyone. I've been having some troubles recently with my monitor. It's a very old ViewSonic VA1912wb, we've had it for years and years, and it's been working absolutely fine until a couple of weeks ago. Recently when the computer has been booting up, most of the time, the monitor just displays a black screen, even though a green power light shows that it has indeed reacted to the computer being turned on. Usually, in order to get it to work, I would try turning the monitor off and on, typing some keys, moving/clicking the mouse, and when they don't work, force restarting the computer. Sometimes, I will have to force restart the computer 5 or 6 times before the screen actually displays something, and it seems to be completely random when it decides to work. Every time the computer starts, the green light always comes up on the monitor, and every time I restart the monitor, it goes through a couple of shades of black before it decides to either work or not work. To add to the strangeness, I've tried unplugging and replugging the DVI cable, and doing the same with the power cable for the monitor, and the problem has remained consistent. I'm just primarily at a loss as to whether this is a monitor problem or a computer problem Appreciate your help, Alex
  9. alright yeah all AMD components seem to have been uninstalled. I just tried doing a clean install of my Nvidia display drivers by uninstalling Nvidia drivers, running Driver Cleaner Pro and cleaning both Nvidia and AMD drivers, then reinstalling Nvidia drivers (ticking do a clean installation, and restarting between each). Still I've had no luck with GeForce Experience or Prepar3d. Looks like I might have to reinstall windows somehow, problem is I've never done it before and would have no idea how to do it (or how long it would take). However, I would like to try everything possible before reinstalling windows, so I'll keep trying to find things to do Really appreciate the help guys
  10. I tried starting windows in safe mode, and when I opened GeForce Experience, it popped up with an entire new error that I had never seen before. I tried reopening it a couple times and the error seemed to be persistent.
  11. I'm not 100% sure I did uninstall all the AMD Drivers before i installed the 750 Ti. If I didn't, will that affect it in to the future? What's the best way to make sure I've got rid of all traces of the AMD stuff on my computer? I'll try starting in safe mode now and let you know how it goes. Thanks for all the help guys.
  12. Gday Everyone. I've been having problems over the past couple of months involving the KERNELBASE.DLL. It has been causing crashes in multiple programs including Prepar3d, GeForce Experience and more. These programs have become unusable because the crash happens every time I attempt to use them. The problem with the DLL started occurring right after I replaced the AMD Radeon HD 6450 that came with my computer, with a new Nvidia GTX 750 Ti. And I have read on the internet that new hardware has been known to cause the problem. However, I still can't find a fix. I've looked just about everywhere and tried just about everything. All my graphics drivers are up to date, I've gone in to msconfig and disabled most (not all) startup programs. I've also disabled all system services (except Microsoft ones) and tried rebooting with no luck. And of course, I've also tried going in to command prompt and running sfc /scannow Countless times. Here are the details of some crashes, this particular one was in Prepar3d; Faulting application name: Prepar3D.exe, version: 2.5.12944.0, time stamp: 0x54ee1a39 Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 6.1.7601.18409, time stamp: 0x53159a86 Exception code: 0xe0434352 Fault offset: 0x0000c42d Faulting process id: 0x1744 Faulting application start time: 0x01d07053189c71d5 Faulting application path: C:\P3D\Prepar3D.exe Faulting module path: C:\Windows\syswow64\KERNELBASE.dll Report Id: 52c42679-dc49-11e4-a0b5-d4bed9d039f0 and this one for GeForce Experience; Faulting application name: GFExperience.exe, version: 17.12.8.0, time stamp: 0x54b8aef5 Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 6.1.7601.18409, time stamp: 0x53159a86 Exception code: 0xe0434352 Fault offset: 0x0000c42d Faulting process id: 0x22ac Faulting application start time: 0x01d06c3978376bce Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\NVIDIA GeForce Experience\GFExperience.exe Faulting module path: C:\Windows\syswow64\KERNELBASE.dll Report Id: d6a13dd0-d82c-11e4-9f43-d4bed9d039f0 Note: I have seen the faulting module be the KERNELBASE.DLL from system32 rather than syswow64. Also, Prepar3d is a 32-bit application, so I don't really know why it uses the one from syswow64. Not sure if that means anything, but just thought I'd add it. I'd really appreciate your help guys, and here's all my specs. 14. Righto thanks for the feedback, I'll look at my options Yep welcome to Straya, Aussie Dollar right now is absolutely s***house, RAM is insanely expensive
  15. Hi Guys. This is going to be the first computer I've ever built, and I've done my research, but I wanna make sure I haven't done anything dumb, just basically checking in terms of compatibility and suitability. I'm gonna be using the computer mainly for Flight Simming (which is a big CPU killer rather than GPU), However I do use it for a limited number of games as well. Here it is: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/alexdiederich/saved/4q8zK8 Yes, there is no GPU there, I recently bought a GTX 750 Ti and am using it in my current system, and I'm really happy with its performance, and I don't feel the need to upgrade GPU's yet. I plan to store just the OS and Flight Simulator on the SSD, and everything else will be on the 2TB HDD. The Flight Sim Folder can and has reached over 150GB in the past, which is the reason I've gone with a 240GB SSD. I also plan to overclock the 4690K, hence why I chose the H100i. Appreciate the feedback, Alex
  16. I will buy an entire new computer with which I will play Flight Simulator and Photoshop simultaneously till my eyes hurt then keep going until I'm hungry
  17. Thanks for all the advice guys. I've decided to get the GTX 750 Ti, reasons including; No need for a new Power Supply, nice and cheap, quick, temporary solution, compact enough to fit. Plan will be to perhaps upgrade and create a new build in around 2 years or so, but what I've got now should last me until then
  18. If only I could, almost all of my money at the moment needs to be devoted to other things, however a build may be on the table later down the track once this computer becomes useless and/or I move out. However, I do plan to use this new graphics card as part of that build in the future, but not stressing about that too much at the moment
  19. G'day Everyone, First of all, I've never done any computer modification before. My current computer, which is just over 2 years old, has been struggling a fair bit recently (and always really), playing certain games is almost impossible due the frame rate, and I believe this mainly comes down to the Radeon HD 6450 that came with this pre-built Dell Inspiron 620MT computer (Details here: http://www.engadget.com/products/dell/inspiron/620/specs/ , its the MT Version for the most part, small differences include i5-2320 CPU @3GHz, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD. Motherboard Details here as well: http://www.findlaptopdriver.com/dell-inspiron-620-specs/ ) I'm just trying to work out what my angle of attack should be from here. I want to upgrade, but I am concerned mostly about these 4 things: - Will a new GPU be bottlenecked by the computer - Will it meet a fairly strict budget of around $400 (whilst avoiding spending that much anyway) - How should I go about buying a new Power Supply (which I will almost certainly need to do given it comes with a 300W one) - Will the new GPU fit, I was looking at a GTX 970, only to find that it would be pushing against the edges of the case in terms of size (almost certainly TOO big to fit) So the ultimate question is, what's the most effective thing for me to do from here, avoiding buying a whole new computer, just upgrading in order to get much better performance, whether its a smaller graphics card not quite as new and big as the GTX 970, or whatever. I have photos of the inside if you guys need. And thanks so much in advance for your help guys, Alex
  20. Desperately need a new power supply to upgrade but this all looks pretty damn dank
