  1. Budget (including currency): ? Already spent most of the money. Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming, Photo Editing, Programming in Eclipse, Netbeans, Visual Studio Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Bellow is my CURRENT pc setup, this is what I will be upgrading from. I have an Alienware AW3418DW so resolution is 3440x1440. Obviously Nvidia made it clear that their 30xx Series are aimed at 10xx Series owners. I just have a little problem. I was invested in the CPU market for years, but it felt like 4 years went by and everything changed! AMD is beating Intel! (You love to see it). My Processor a 4th Gen Haswell-E CPU. It's been so long I don't know what to get anymore so I need some help with: CPU suggestions? Motherboard suggestions? Can I still use my cooler? or do I need a newer one? I will be picking up faster RAM once I knew the speeds the motherboard support. (Crazy to hear that 3200 is semi standard now, 2400 was when I first made this build) Parts List Link: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/thedavethegamer/saved/zncgbv Parts List Text: PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wzd9x6 CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3 GHz 6-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Deepcool CAPTAIN360EX 229.56 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler Motherboard: MSI X99S Gaming 7 ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard ($179.00) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR4-2400 CL15 Memory ($36.98 @ Newegg) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR4-2400 CL15 Memory ($36.98 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($107.99 @ Adorama) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($107.99 @ Adorama) Storage: Samsung 970 Evo 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive ($167.78 @ Amazon) Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11 GB AORUS Xtreme Edition 11G Video Card ($750.00) Case: Phanteks Enthoo EVOLV ATX TG ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit ($108.78 @ Other World Computing) Case Fan: Corsair SP120 Quiet 37.85 CFM 120 mm Fans 2-Pack ($102.63 @ Amazon) Case Fan: Corsair SP120 Quiet 37.85 CFM 120 mm Fans 2-Pack ($102.63 @ Amazon) Case Fan: Corsair SP120 Quiet 37.85 CFM 120 mm Fans 2-Pack ($102.63 @ Amazon) Monitor: Dell AW3418DW 34.1" 3440x1440 120 Hz Monitor ($999.00 @ Amazon) Keyboard: Corsair STRAFE RGB Wired Gaming Keyboard Mouse: Razer DeathAdder Elite Wired Optical Mouse ($67.90 @ Amazon) Mouse: Logitech MX MASTER 2S (Black) Wireless Laser Mouse ($77.98 @ Amazon) Headphones: Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Headphones ($145.00 @ Amazon) Custom: Hitachi Ultrastar 7K3000 ($99.95) Custom: Hitachi Ultrastar 7K3000 ($99.95)
  2. Maybe the RX480 but who knows what AMD has planned for future cards and their Furry lineup. If they can get a good performing HMB2 card out by the end of the year and beat Nvidia then they can make a comeback.
  3. CPU should be fine, it may bottleneck slightly but a bit of an overclock should do the trick. I'd so go for it after seeing what AMD has to offer.
  4. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/sapphire-video-card-100382ntoc2l in GTA it averages around 71
  5. TIL "stronger cores" is a thing and that the Z170 has stronger cores than X99
  6. I'm looking to replace the keycaps on my Strafe RGB with either POM or PBT plastic caps. Ideally I'd like find POM caps, however I can't seem to find them anywhere if anyone knows a seller and could point me to them that'd be greatly appreciated.
  7. If your pc runs fine without the gpu, and everything spins up fine with it in it may be that your HDMI port on yopur gpu is broken
  8. This is true but it also depends on what else is in the system, if he has a 560ti I'd assume he has an older cpu aswell. Also did he turn the powerswitch on the back, back on?
  9. yeah it may be a power issue, the 560ti has a lower TDP then the 390. also it requires 65 watts more power, and if you were close to the edge of your current psu's limit then that might cause it.
  10. it somehow sorted itself out I think... here's my most recent run http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/9992558?
  11. unfortunately that isn't the case either because I was reaching a chilly 32c.
  12. tried that, over clocking doesn't bring the clock speed up.
  13. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/516055-5820k-33ghz-980ti-13ghz-only-getting-4343-in-3d-mark/#entry6863264
  14. So I posted a similar thread earlier and a mod flagged one of the answers as correct (despite it not working) so I'm posting a new one. I have a 5820k and a 980ti and my Firestrike Extreme score was in the 4000's, a quick search later and I see that my GPU is clocked at 135MHz. I tried doing a complete windows reinstall, didn't work, I tried uninstalling drivers and reinstalling, didn't work. Right now I feel like I'm up shit creek without a paddle so any help is greatly appreciated. Link to previous info: Here
  15. Just finished trying that and no luck... reinstalled windows, reinstalled after burner, only now my clock speed is 135mhz.
  16. Well this is interesting, After burner is seeing a different clock then GPU-Z After burner is seeing ~600 MHz while gpu-z is seeing 1.5 GHz EDIT: just checked the Sensors tab, gpu-z is also seeing 594 mhz. However it doesn't seem that OCing is bringing that up. EDIT 2: my temps are actually at 38 degrees
  17. Yeah I checked temps, I'm at a rather cool 45 degrees, and my drivers are all up to date including game ready. I'll see if maybe the card under clocked itself???
  18. As the titles says I have a 5820k clocked at 3.3 and a 980ti clocked at 1.3, however my fire strike score is less than that of a 4790k and a 970. I'm a bit confused here any help is appreciated.
  19. Nvdia will probaly release them Q2 or Q3 I don't think anyone outside of Nvidia really knows at this moment.
  20. Tooth brush, dumbest thing I can think of.
  21. I have an AIO cpu cooler and never seen my gpu hit the 60's but I live in a cooler environment, you're fine in all honesty, I know AMD makes their cards "safe" up till 90 and Nvidia cards are similar.
  22. I know that I'll probably get the mouse (HardwareCanucks did a review) it looks like the Razer Ouroboros only much, much cheaper. I think you couldn't go wrong with that keyboard, though I'd probably still buy the Corsair Strafe RGB with the new MX Silent switches personally.
  23. I have a 980ti in my system right next to me but my profile picture is of the Fury/Fury X gpu die. If AMD makes a card that outperforms the 1080(?)Ti then I'll buy that for sure! If not then I'll go Nvidia again. I hope that AMD will make a comeback and have the better gpu next year so I'll vote them, but if they don't well I won't be to upset.
