  1. (Not sure if this is the right place for this, but it seems like the most appropriate location.) OK, so I've been dabbling with linux servers and stuff, and was struck with the idea of having a heavy duty gaming "server" stuck in a closet somewhere in my house, using a server -> thin client system kind of like steam in home streaming to provide a near or completely silent gaming experience off low power PCs, possibly to several users a a time. Now i realize this is a very unconventional idea, but how would you guys do it? As a proof of concept, i have an old HP DL380 dual xeon E5450 server that i will try to set up a lesser form of this on, but I will need an okish graphics card that only runs off PCIe power. Any ideas?
  2. In that video the picture quality was surprisingly good considering the extreme conditions. I'm moving house soon, and since some of the rooms lack floor space something like this would be really useful - putting one against a wall and having an almost wireless rig.
  3. I'm building a gaming/streaming rig, so it would fit in well Pray to gaben that I win PLEEEEAAASSSEEE!
  4. So... I don't have much experience building rigs, but I've saved a little up and am hoping to build a pretty decent little rig. I'm in England, and my budget is GBP £1500 (USD $2400), but can vary if needed. The aim of the build is to run new games, mainly Star Citizen at 5760*1080 (3 1080p monitors) on high, possibly ultra settings when supported. However, if the budget allows it I would like to be able to record my adventures in the 'verse, so in this case I would probably want an OCable i7. Peripherals will be bought separately. For aesthetics, I would like to run with a blue/black colour scheme, in a Phantek Enthoo Primo case, however I would rather a little colour clashing to reduced performance. Any build recommendations? Thanks, gam3guy
  5. When you take an old laptop, strip it to the aluminium disk (I'm British and I insist on spelling it properly) and make the read/write head into a necklace. EDIT: Also, when a friend asks you to diagnose a problem over the phone due to PC not booting, you ask whats on the Hard drive. As they reply "WD Blue" you immediately say "Hard drive failure" and are correct! True story
  6. Favourite; 750W PSU Why? Red + Black, perfect colori schere for my build, exactly the right wattage as well!
  7. OMG, these cards look soo cool! Do they fit side by side in SLI? If so, Imight have to get me some!
  8. Trombone for 6 years, guitar for 2 years, bass and piano on and off
  9. Thanks for the quick responses guys. I upgraded the mobo, downgraded the ram to 1866MHz and the PSU to 750W: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/gam3guy/saved/tNkH99 I however couldnt find the reference cards on Partpicker, but I dont have much experience with the site. EDIT: TY JEman99, i was writing this as you posted. I preder to stay away from and hard drives form WD, as I have had bad experiences with corruption and failure. The build looks good though.
  10. So, i've been gaming for 7 years on sub £500 builds, and am fed up with low settings. I've tried to build a PC that can run most of the new games that will come out over the next few years on good settings, but as the title suggests, I am not completely at ease with building stuff from scratch.
