  1. Same thing happened with phones. I remember when the latest flagship cost 500/600 bucks 10 years ago. inflation hasn't been 100% in 10 years, and yet prices for that segment have more than doubled.
  2. they didn't give any details into how it works or which games it'll work with other than the one used for the demo.
  3. Summary AMD announced their new 3D stacking process, which enables them to package up to 192MB of cache on a single CPU Quotes My thoughts In another genius stroke from AMD and TSMC engineers, they've used their new 3D stacking process to add a previously unthinkable amount of SRAM cache to their CPUs. It really blows me away to think that Intel's latest CPUs come with just 16MB of cache, a number that has increased very gradually over the past decade, and now AMD are bringing a quantum leap forward with over an order of magnitude more cache available. It will take a lot of software optimization, but we can expect to see massive increases in data-intensive applications that take advantage of that massive 2TB/s bandwidth and huge cache. The numbers they showed were just for a prototype 5900X with the new technology, but given the end-of-year manufacturing timeframe mentioned, I guess we can expect the top-end Ryzen 6000 series CPUs to include the new packaging technology and launch sometime in Q1 2022. These CPUs will have more cache than my first PC had harddrive space. Consider me mindblown. Sources : AMD Keyote
  4. AMD Announces Fidelity FX Super Resolution, their competitor to Nvidia DLSS. They've confirmed that it will be brand agnostic and work across 100+ GPUs and CPUs. Quotes My thoughts It's great to see AMD FSR finally coming out officially and even better to see AMD pushing forward with their open standards that can be used by pretty much any hardware from the past few years, and not artificially limit it to working only on AMD cards of the latest generation unlike some other GPU makers have done... 5. So let me get this straight. Every time a new video comes out you download the closed captions script specifically searching for when the url key is "announced" and then you just take the quiz over and over until you get to the end through trial and error? Am I the only one who thinks this goes against the spirit of it? Shouldn't there be an IP blocker to prevent this kind of gaming of the systems? I and many others spent a good chunk of time googling, watching youtube videos and asking in twitch channels for the answers to questions about games that we weren't familiar with. Doing it that way you actually get to learn cool facts about games that you didn't know before. But just brute forcing your way through the multiple choice by retaking the quiz 10 times seems like something that shouldn't be allowed.
  6. I actually thought the DirectX12/Vulkan question was one of the easiest ones. The SoulCalibour and Resident Evil questions I hadn't the remotest idea about.
  7. Idk about for you guys but the gamer quiz was actually pretty tough for me. Several questions were about game franchises I've never played and had to google them or watch videos to find out the answers. I got to the last question with 1 life left and already 2 questions skipped, literally on the brink of death, and it was a fortnite question lmfao. Never in my f**king life have I played fortnite. Twitch to the rescue, jumped in a fortnite channel and the dude helped me with the answer. I guess that also counts as a gamer way to get the answer. So I was among the first 500 to watch the video but it took so long to finish the quiz due to having to do research that there were already 2000 people in queue. I think the program is awesome and the concept works really well. If I could make a suggestion, there are some gamers like myself who have much more experience playing RTS or turn-based games and not so much FPS and battle royale games. And there will also be gamers who play FPS almost exclusively, and so on. So maybe you could include a first question that is something like "which kind of game are you most familiar with? FPS RTS RPG MOBA/BattleRoyale" and then have questions tailored to those types of games? Open to suggestions / comments.
  8. oh you're right. nevermind then I'm dumb. I saw the "visit the gigabyte store" thing and thought it was being sold by the official store.
  9. Pretty sure nvidia isn't cool with their partners selling cards for 80% above MSRP regardless of supply and demand.
  10. The official Gigabyte store on Amazon casually selling RTX3070 cards for 900 bucks. 80% above MSRP. Guess they figured they might as well do the scalping themselves rather than sell them at MSRP and let others get that money.
  11. meh doesn't affect me. I have unlimited storage for 9.99/month. I have close to 30TB on google cloud.
  12. The latter Zen 2 chips that came out in Q2-Q3 2020 including the refreshes were noticeably better at handling high speed ram. Might be due to process maturity, who knows, but they did fare better than the first Zen 2 chips that came out last year.
  13. The official benchmarks comparing 5000 series to 3000 series were run with all other system specs being the same, so they wouldn't have used higher clocked RAM and taken advantage of that higher infinity fabric clock.
  14. Based on information from WCCF and PCgamer, it's looking like AMD's next gen CPUs will be even better than leaked benchmarks suggested. It seems the new infinity fabric and memory controller can handle higher speeds than the 3000 series wile maintaining the 1:1 RAM : IF clock relationship. Going from a current sweet spot of 3600Mhz DDR4 up to 4000Mhz DDR4 while maintaining 1:1 relationship with infinity fabric, could yield around 10% extra performance since infinity fabric clock has been shown to scale almost directly with CPU performance. If we take the IPC and clock speed improvements into account, we are potentially looking at a 25% performance increase vs 3000 series. ---------------------------------------------- Summary 5000 Series AMD CPUs might be even faster than expected thanks to improvements in the memory contorller and inifnity fabric Quotes My thoughts None of this is for sure yet, we have to wait for 3rd party benchmarks and reviews. However it certainly does look like AMD have got a massive upgrade in store for us. If the rumored gains in performance pan out, I don't mind one bit that AMD decided to increase their pricing slightly. Even at that higher price point I expect that AMD chips will be in very high demand during november-december. 15. I mean... doesn't matter anymore at this point. Not like you can buy a 3090 anyways.
  16. Seems like the usual suspects botted the fuck out of the 3090 launch as well and they're mostly doing instant buy orders on ebay now rather than auctions. I hope a good chunk of those buying cards on ebay open disputes or create brand new ebay accounts and ask for chargebacks on their credit cards. Scam the scammers. This kind of behavior needs to be rooted out and you do that by making these people loose a lot of money.
  17. You're also neglecting the fact that VRAM and system RAM have latency in the order of nanoseconds, compared to milliseconds for other types of information that they'd have to pull from your system drive or through usb/thunderbolt connections.
  18. I envy people who live near a microcenter and could go pick one up in person. Kinda hard to mass bot purchase in physical stores.
  19. I'm looking at the Sliger CL530. Seems like it's vented on both sides and might actually work for the 3090 but the issue is that it's only got 75mm of clearance for a CPU cooler and none come to mind that would handle a 3950X that'll be pushed hard. It might work if I try undervolting it with that 1usmus ClockTuner from the recent LTT video and get it down to a 95W TDP.
  20. I'm looking to build a "portable" workstation with a 3950X in a Mini-ITX B550 board with a new RTX 3090. I do some gaming buy mostly video editing on premiere pro and after effect. To put it in perspective, I currently have an i9-9920k and a Pascal-based Titan which was a great workhorse for many years but it struggles with 4K timelines and vram runs our in a hurry when using lots of effect layers. I'd like my next rig to be somewhat portable (make it fit in carry-on luggage). I'm planning to buy one of those USB-C portable monitors and a compact keyboard and mouse to go along with it. My concern is that most of the sandwich style mini-itx cases don't seem like they'd be able to handle the unique airflow requirements of the new nvidia cooler design. Does someone have a case they could recommend that would fit a build like this? Preferably something under 4 gallons / 15 liters in volume.
  21. no, that'll happen in october. Some people are willing to pay an extra hundred bucks to get their hands on a card sooner.
  22. Should have sold your 2080Ti last month, they were going for 1200. You'll be lucky to get 500 bucks for it now.
  23. You gotta keep in mind that the 3090 is basically a Titan. So if you compare it with a previous gen Titan it's actually pretty cheap. 1GB of GDDR6X is like 15 bucks. So if we get a 12GB version of the 3090 in the future then it would probably be 180usd less in cost which could be 300usd less in final cost. So we might have a 12GB 3080Ti version go for 1299usd.
  24. 699 for the 3080 is actually pretty reasonable pricing for Nvidia. I'm pleasantly surprised. Sure the big boi 3090 looks to be about 20% faster, but 2.2x the price for a 20% performance bump makes no sense. I'm guessing the only people who will buy it will be money-is-no-object people who want the best of the best or pros who really need the 24GB of vram.
  25. I recall a time when I used to be able to do that. I wonder why they killed the feature.
