  1. So girlfriend's mom had a South African newspaper from March 1996 in a box with childhood family items. Briefly looking through I saw this laptop ad and found it insanely fascinating Price is ZAR. Adjusted for inflation in South Africa, R14 195 ($3 200 USD at March 1996 exchange rate) is ~ R66 000 today ($3 800 USD at today's exchange rate). Just found the specs and pricing really fascinating.
  2. Hi Guys, Thanks for your replies. I was reinstalling the latest driver before posting your required screenshots when I remembered this is a dual BIOS card. So before updating to the latest drivers I tried the other BIOS from the switch. Drivers finished installing and all seems fine now. Appreciate the quick replies all
  3. This has given me one hell of a headache this afternoon: Picked up a 2nd hand RX 570 on eBay (my previous GTX980 died, and no idea when my 3080 order will get fulfilled). So I install the GPU, get to windows all fine. I reboot to safe mode and run DDU to get rid of the Nvidia drivers. I boot back to windows again, have the classic no drivers low resolution. I downloaded and installed Radeon Adrenalin, the latest available from AMD's site after selecting the RX 570. It installs, goes through the reboot. Log into windows again, everything is at native 1440p. BUT then I get this when trying to launch Adrenalin: I then have a look at device manager: Windows Update finds nothing for me. So I go Safe Mode and run DDU again, and try again. Same issue. Even tried with a 2019 driver from AMD. I am completely stuck and have no idea what to do. Any advice is much appreciated. System Info:
  4. So I just wanna ask some advice and opinions. My i5-4690k died recently. So I need to buy a new system. Wanna go AMD, B450 chipset. Was planning to get a 2600 now, then sell it next year and upgrade to the theoretical 3600X, when Zen2 releases. The 1600X is on sale this weekend, for R1100 (~$80 USD) cheaper. Should I get the 1600X at that price (R2500 = ~$180) or get the 2600 (R3600 = ~$260) and be able to sell it next year at a lower loss next year?
  5. Hi guys, I'm looking at getting a new case soon, and currently its down to the CoolerMaster Master Case Maker 5 or the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX with tempered glass. Each has aspects about them that I like, the look of the Enthoo, the radiator mounting in the Maker 5 (can hide my ugly Noctua Fans). I am also looking at maybe in the next year or so doing a custom water cooling loop, so I want to also pick my next case with this in mind. Which of those 2 would be better suited to fitting a custom loop in? I'm having a hard time choosing between the 2, so any other insight, or alternative options, would be greatly appreciated!
  6. closing. No difference other than front panel, LED strip and fan controller included, and extra front i/o
  7. I've used a D-Link DWA-132 USB WiFi adapter. works 100% with Windows 10 64-bit and various distributions of Linux
  8. Hey LTT community I was wondering about the differences between the CooloerMaster MasterCase Pro 5 and the MasterCase Maker 5. A friend of mine is offering to sell he his Pro 5 in good condition for a very good price. Is it worth getting it from him or just saving for the Maker? Aside from the table CM list on their site here, like what it's like to build in them, small things that make you prefer the one over the other. So if you're someone who owns or has owned, built in or had any experience with either case, please post it, really wanna know. PS: I have a Nepton 280L AIO (280mm radiator), will this fit in either case easily? And thoughts on custom loop potential for each case.
  9. I just ordered the Hyper-X Cloud, read some very good reviews for this headset. Thanks for the advice everyone.
  10. You all make very valid points, Thank you! I have thought about the Razer Suround, but haven't really considered it as an option. I'll reconsider the whole 7.1 thing and have a look at the cloud as opposed to the Cloud 2s. My current Sirus-S has true analog 5.1 and I found it worked great. Not a fan of the G430 headset, I personally don't like the fit. Gonna do some more research before I buy, and see what else this thread turns up. As I said as well, if you have any other recommendations in that price range, let me know.
  11. I am looking at replacing my old CM Strom Sirus-S headset as it has basically reached the end of its life. Looking for a headset mainly to be used for gaming, preferably 7.1 surround sound. I am not an audiophile in any way, and mainly use speakers for music. Sound quality doesn't have to be top of the range, but still rather decent. My budget is R1 650 South African Rand which is approx equal to $100 USD. At the moment the currency in South Africa has become very weak and as such prices for items here will probably vary quite a bit to items internationally. Am willing to go a bit over budget if the product is worth it. These are the headsets I'm looking at: Razer Kraken 7.1 Chroma for R1 274 (~ $77) Corsair VOID USB, Virtual 7.1, Wired for R1 456 (~ $88) Corsair Gaming H1500, Wired, 7.1 for R1 442 (~ $87) (heard that these are preferable to the VOID as they are better quality, comments on this?) HyperX Cloud II Headset for R1 599 (~ $97) or a bit over budget but still considering, Logitech G633, Virtual 7.1 for R2 067 (~ $125) Local retailers are: http://www.rebeltech.co.za/ ; http://www.computersonly.co.za/ ; http://www.evetech.co.za/ Please let me know your opinions of the headsets I mentioned or any other decent gaming headsets that are worth considering. Thanks!
  12. I want it to use instead of a Steam Machine to play games in my lounge, and/or as a home media player for Plex
  13. Have a look at the CM Storm Stryker maybe? Not sure if it'll fit your build perfectly, but damn it looks good.
  14. thanks guys, appretiate it. I'm leanng towards the Fractal design R4, nice case. I can get it for R1 250 (approx. $113) here in South Africa. I'll have a look at the EVGA PSUs, thanks. Was also considering the Coolermaster V650/750. Thanks Dango for also mentioning those.
  15. Hi there good people of this forum. I am looking at buying a new case for my build (MSI Z97 Gaming 7 Motherboard, Intel i5-4690k, MSI GTX 760 OC 2GB, Antec Kühler H2O 950). I currently have this build in a CM Storm Scout, but it is a bit tight with very little cable management room. Also only 1 system fan intake on the front doesn't allow for much air flow, as the CPU cooler radiator is on the rear 120mm fan mount. And because of the size of the radiator I've had to remove the top fan. Anyway, I'm looking at getting a new case, mid tower. I've been looking at: Antec P280 windowed, Fractal Design Define R4, CM Storm Scout 2 (really like the handles on my current scout) Fractal Design Define XL R2 (can get for decent price). My main worry about the case it that my CPU cooler will fit easily in the case. The Antec one is a decent size so it should be fine, but I prefer the look of the Fractal R4. Then I saw the Fractal XL R2 and thought that could work as well. Does anyone have any advice or know if the CPU cooler will fit fine in all the above cases? Also if you have any other case recommendations, I'm eager to hear them. (I haven't listed the NZXT H440 as it's a little out of my price range, South African prices). Also, any PSU recommendations? Preferably modular or at least semi-modular, and around 650W-750W. Thanks guys
