Program to keep kids off of malicious websites
SImoHayha replied to OzZy15's topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
Parental controls are gonna be a mixture of layers. especially for PC. One is using a DNS that filters that naughty stuff like Open DNS for free for families https://www.opendns.com/home-internet-security/ Then create a Kid account via windows which is easy to setup. To time them, set more parental controls etc. I heard the website blocking can be tedious but you can ignore that and just use the open DNS, for filtering. Then of course. With a kid account/Primary/Parent account. The parent has control of what the kid installs, and then protects the PC. Of course the parent has to be diligent in making sure the password doesn't leak etc. -
Please help my only laptop is boot looping
SImoHayha replied to GhostBlood's topic in Troubleshooting
Have you tried getting an older version of a windows ISO? Perhaps the one you're using is corrupt in some sorta fashion or just flat out borked? -
Had a similar issue but in my case I had SAS drives, for some reason a HDD would go to 100%, then fail to be seen in explorer, figured out the issue wasn't the drive failing but the RAID controller overheating. Perhaps something similar is happening to you? It could be that your NVME drive is overheating quite badly. Where is your NVME located? Is it getting enough airflow? Or passive airflow via the GPU?

Upgrading my platform, any good budget 500gb nvme drives?
SImoHayha replied to aren332's topic in Storage Devices
You can get some 1TB NVME drives. Just get any really...it's NVME it's gonna be quite fast regardless. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/7tCFf7/silicon-power-a60-1-tb-m2-2280-nvme-solid-state-drive-sp001tbp34a60m28 -
could be that the SSD is dying. try using crystal disk info and see if you can tell the condition of the drives.

laptop recommendation for development and light gaming
SImoHayha replied to ultra99's topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
I'd get a 15" or 16" I own a 14inch depending on how big your hands are 14" will be pretty tiny. 16" can be a pretty good middle ground, and 15" gives you a little extra space.- 1 reply

Modding Fallout New Vegas is making me hate the damn game
SImoHayha replied to gravdestroyer's topic in PC Gaming
you should just follow the PCgamingwiki. The guides are a lot more easier and they have links to everything. https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas -
CISCO UCS C240 M4 12LFF PCIE Riser Power
SImoHayha replied to Askingslushy's topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
Some do/some don't. There is the cable itself, which just makes an extension of the PCIe slot, and then there is the one for bitcoin mining which also plugs into the PCIe slot, but requires separate power to be connected to it, to give power to the GPU. -
Dell optiplex won't recognize usb for installing an OS
SImoHayha replied to Marx-Antoine's topic in Guides and Tutorials
try plugging the USB directly into the motherboard // I/O back. Sometimes some USB's wont boot unless you plug it into the motherboard directly. IDK why but that makes it work most of the time. -
Youtube's auto generated captions are awful
SImoHayha replied to Dragonwinged's topic in General Discussion
they used to allow anyone to make subtitles for any video and of course the creator/youtuber had to approve it. But youtube being youtube....decided to remove it for no real reason at all other than to piss everyone off. Honestly...it doesn't make any damn sense. It required the creator to approve said subs....and not to mention tons of people would offer help and what not to ensure that it was legit and not malicious in nature -
j5 create docking station not working with hp laptop.
SImoHayha replied to ShayOh's topic in Peripherals
did you find the drivers for it? I just googled the model and it gives requirements + system specs need for the doc to work. https://en.j5create.com/products/jcd543 it looks like you also need a driver to make it work. -
it would be helpful to give us what laptop brand/model it is. So we can help further. Whatever the case seems to be, that seems to be quite the odd laptop. I never seen a motherboard like that before. It seems to be one of those really really cheapo laptops? AFAIK i can't see anything wrong with it. It just might've been borked internally or something so small you can't notice it. If you need another laptop. I would suggest going on ebay and buying refurbished/used HP or DELL Elitebooks or latitudes respectively you can find them dime a dozen and in the 200-300$ range or cheaper.

bitwarden very very nice. Super easy, runs in a browser, runs on phone, runs as as program etc.
