  1. Is the only issue that the fan may not start up if set to an RPM that's too low? Or can I actually damage something by experimenting with this?
  2. They're GentleTyphoon AP-15 fans. D1225C12B5AP-53.
  3. I'm using SpeedFan to control my DC fans and I need to know what minimum percent I can set them to. Out of curiosity, I set them to 20% and it seems to work. I was under the impression DC fans can't go below about 40-50%. So, is there any issue with setting a fan to a very low percent via SpeedFan? Is it going to damage anything? How do I know what the minimum is?
  4. I have no idea what you just said, but setting a test time of 0 did indeed get it to do what I want it to do. Thanks!
  5. I need Prime95 to run the same test nonstop. That means one fft size, one test, one pass. I tried the following: Custom -> Min FFT size: 128, Max FFT size: 128 "Time to run each FFT size (in minutes): 60" But it doesn't do what I tell it. It says: Test 1, 140000 Lucas-Lehmer iterations of m2605473 using FMA3 FFT length 128K, Pass 1=512, Pass2=256. ...and then after 3 minutes (NOT 60 like I told it to!) it says: Test 2, 140000 Lucas-Lehmer iterations of m2584313 using FMA3 FFT length 128k, Pass1=512, Pass2=256. Why do I care? Because I'm testing the thermal differences between different configurations of case fans. As such, I need a test that puts a CONSTANT and UNCHANGING load on the CPU. Otherwise, any differences I observe could be the result of the prime95 test being on a different stage than it was when I recorded the previous fan configuration's result. If prime95 can't do this for me, does anyone know of a program that can? Thanks!
  6. If the lower part is for rads, then why do they let you put HDD cages there at all? If they let you put HDD cages there, it makes no sense not to add literally 2 or 3 millimeters of space to use a 120mm fan to cool the HDDs. This is utterly baffling.
  7. I bought the 900D expecting to be able to use the lower HDD cages along with the lower side fans to cool them. Upon actually trying to do it, however, I notice that the fans literally touch the drive bays (see attached image). I've spent hours Googling to see if the lower drive bays are intended to be used with fans, but no luck. It would be baffling if they allowed lower fans but didn't let you use it to cool anything! Anyone know?
  8. It needs to be physically more spacious than a typical full tower case. I think most full towers are something along the lines of 22" x 9" by 21". That's just over 4000 cubic inches. The 900D, by contrast, is 25.6" x 10" x 27" (close to 7000 cubic inches). The Cosmos II, at 26" x 13.5" x 27.7", is close to 10,000 cubic inches. It has nothing to do with fitting graphics cards into the case; it has to do with there being a lot of room to move my hands around. -------- The Silverstone tj07 and Corsair 780t are also too small, I'm afraid The CM Cosmos II looks promising, but the low price makes me worry about build quality. I'll look into it though! Thanks
  9. Because I know that typical full towers are too small for my requirements, so I'm restricting my search to cases that are larger than that.
  10. Other than the Nanoxia 6, those are all full towers I'm afraid
  11. It seems big enough and the HDD support is excellent. Not sure how I feel about not having a side window though, now that I'm confronted with that possibility. I've always felt like not having a side window makes a PC look like a generic prebuilt Dell or something. Oh well, I might have to settle.
  12. I was incredibly disappointed to find out that the Corsair 900D has been discontinued in favor of the 1000D. I was wanting to upgrade my case to the 900D because I prefer lots of room rather than a smaller footprint. The problem with the 1000D is that it only supports five 3.5" HDDs. For data hoarders like me, that simply won't do. So, does anyone know of any super sized (i.e., larger than a full-sized case) cases with support for at least, say, eight 3.5" drives? Ideally with a side window.
  13. Hmm, I'm intrigued... try to sell me: what can PeaZip do that WinRAR can't? Aesthetics and interface aside, I need something more...
  14. Ahh, got it. Thanks, glad it wasn't a problem on my end. But I'd really like to be able to do what WinRAR's "Synchronize" setting does, whereby: -files are updated; -new files added; -files present in destination but not source are deleted So, like, if I have files A, B, and C in an archive and I move files C, and D into that archive, it will delete A and B, update C to the newer version, and add D. WinRAR's sync setting is the only thing I know of that can do that. The problem is, if I just use Windows Explorer for this purpose, it won't remove the old files that I've since deleted (A and B, in the above example). That's one thing I've always found frustrating when just copy-pasting folders in Windows to back them up. I have to manually sift through them and delete the old stuff. And that happens a lot. Think, for example, of a folder full of pictures which you've backed up. Then you finally got around to deleting the ones you don't want to bother keeping. Now when you go to re-back-up you still have the unwanted pictures remaining in the old backup, so you can't just copy-paste over it. You might think "Well, why not just delete the old backup and make a new one which has the files you want?" That's fine until you're dealing with literally terabytes of data, at which point I'm looking at over a day's worth of transfers that I could avoid by a WinRAR-like sync feature.
