Hey there fellow Captain   The recommended operating temperatures ensure that the drive won't suffer damage, degradation or slow downs due to this factor. Heating it up or cooling it down outside these ranges can affect its performance and health and may endanger the data on the platters. I'd try to keep it withing the recommended operating temps.   Captain_WD.

It's most likely just adverse to it's health. As in it's not going to instantly kill it, but it won't work as well out of those temp ranges and data loss/corruption may occur. That's most likely what it means.

personnaly i feel like in my server 30 to 45 degres for a HDD is fine, i cant tell for lower temps

Like any electronics; it's not going to explode immediately. However, devices are rated for a period of flawless operation in certain temperature ranges. Violating those ranges will reduce that period of time. If it's just for a short time, it doesn't matter.

i re-did it again and now it idles at 34-38 so... is that good? and while playing games now it doesn't go above 59.4

thanks i had the same problem now it works fine! i was being stupid when i plugged the cables in!
