  1. I’m guessing this video was filmed before the “Rebuilding my personal rig” video as there’s no hard line water cooling in his PC that I could see . Also did Linus switch back to using thunderbolt 3 and a dock or stick with the DisplayPort and usb 3 dock from the unraid video?
  2. My mates talktalk ADSL, he's getting BT infinity 78 down and 18 up on the 07/02/2014 but this is what he's been putting up with for a year... (*Worse case scenario*, he gets up to 0.40 down and 0.15 up, 80 ping at best) My sky speedtest is located elsewhere on this topic
  3. I know what you mean vodafones easily got some of the worst 3G speeds/coverage just above O2 in my opinion I was with Vodafone for years and my town which all the other networks have covered with 3G for years still has EDGE on Vodafone, this made me move to a sim only EE (T-Mobile) for my new 5s from Vodafone PAYG on a 3GS and 24 month contract on a 4S
  4. EE is owed in a 50/50 share between Deutsche Telekom (T-Mobile) and Orange therefore it is far from UK only, Deutsche Telekom owns T-Mobile US for example. EE therefore has the same financing 'problems' as Three do being owned by multinational companies
  5. Nice one , I forgot to mention i'm on EE (T-Mobile) on an iPhone 5s (3G-Only Plan), I'm happy with 2G but it's still not as good as Vodafone or O2's but 3G is pretty good although with a pretty low 3GB data limit Oh and I agree about 4G prices being insane at the moment, the only way I would consider it right now is to switch to a network like Three where its no extra charge
  6. My friends talk talk internet on a good day, count yourself very lucky... He lags on Teamspeak and we all know how little bandwidth that requires http://tinypic.com/r/2lw3vyc/5
  7. Hi Guys I live in the UK and want to know about other peoples views of the UK mobile infrastructure: Is the coverage good enough? (Compared to say the USA) What networks do people stand by currently for 3g/4g Smartphones or 2g only Feature Phones? (Vodafone. O2, EE, Three) Will you be willing to move carriers (networks) to get 4G at a discounted price or quicker than your current network What sorts of speeds have you been getting on your current phone on a certain network Are you even looking forward to 4g? Any other opinions or comments as it is an industry and area i'm quite interested in.

    Rate your ISP!

ISP: Sky Broadband Advertised Speed: ADSL2+ (Up to 16 Mbps down in this case and 2 up) Actual Speed: 15.50 Mbps Download (Above 16 at most times though) and 0.94 Upload (Would prefer higher upload no complained about download for ADSL) Fibre coming within a year which will give 80 down and thankfully about 20 up Rating: 5/5 Had them since 2009 never had a problem, Speeds have increased if anything, gone from about 10 to the current 16 download over that time. No experience with support as never actually needed them and for where I live that speed is amazing especially for ADSL. http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/2833347661
  9. I said county not country if that's what your confused about (Cumbria FYI) and I agree most rural area elsewhere in the UK will continue to get sub 2 mb/s in some cases even which is just crap. Sky for ADSL at least is the quickest for where I live, maybe different in other areas but if I could get virgin or some other Superfast service like you I would definitely look into it over ADSL, however virgin fibre and things similar are never going to reach cumbria so im happy with Sky ADSL (At 16 mb/s down) until FTTC or FTTP come around. Your probably right about the whole router thing as It really wouldn't make sense for a faster line speed then the router could handle even over LAN, so there probably working on a new kind of router
  10. I didn't know about LACP and I doubt as my modem is a cheap ISP standard issue it won't support anything fancy like that and okay so i guess all PC's connected to a gigabit switch or similar connected by 10/100 to the router would give the same internet speed? If I get fibre and need higher then 100 mb/s I may have to come back on here and look for another solution Not currently however my County (I live in the UK) is getting almost 100% FTTC or FTTP coverage by 2014-2015 so I may need more then 100 mb/s at any point during this time as that would allow me up to 330 down speeds Unfortunately im on easily the best ISP to be on in the UK (Sky BB), Totally unlimited allowance with no 'Fair Use' or Throttling which all other ISP's in England use frequently and they all offer similarily crap routers

  13. Okay thanks i'll look into that switch a bit more see if what I want to do is possible on it
  14. I'm looking into a way of connecting a modem with 4x10/100 ethernet ports to a gigabit WAN port on a linksys gigabit router using some sort of link aggregation application that would combine the 4x10/100 ports into 1 gigabit connection for the WAN port on the router. Would something like this - http://www.netgear.co.uk/business/products/switches/prosafe-plus-switches/gs105e.aspx#two. Work for this application using its built in software and if so how would you set this up? It is also not possible to change the modem as much as id like to as my ISP does not allow third party routers/modems in there T&C Any information on if this is possible would be greatly appreciated
  15. Sky doesn't have many LLU enabled exchanges in Northern Ireland therefore people are forced to connect using 'Sky Connect' instead of the normal sky BB service which requires LLU to be fitted to the exchange. Sky connect is therefore basically controlled by and suffers from Bandwidth and speed restrictions which are enforced by BT not sky. Once Sky have fully enabled most exchanges with LLU services speeds will be similar or the same as those in England :) It looks like when you say '100MB/s full duplex' you are quoting your ethernet speed from within 'Sky statistics' which has nothing to do with your line speed or quality not proving at all your are being restricted. You live or near London by the looks of it therefore other ISP's may be able to offer better or more stable speeds but im afraid ADSL is going to be similar or worse due to obvious congestions showing obvious slow down at nighttimes. Maybe WiMAX or cable would be a better option
