  1. Hi Everyone, Question: I am trying to figure out if running an M2 disk on this motherboard as OS drive will give noticable performance increase over the other options available to this card. Currently running OS on a Samsung 840 EVO on a Sata 3 port. I wonder if using the M2 port as a OS/system drive will make me load faster into Windows and have a more quick & snappy experience running windows on an M2. Since using this M2 slot on this motherboard takes away two Sata 3 slots I naturally want to compare this towards running 2xSSD in RAID 0 on the Sata 3 slots. I got the following word from MSI Support regarding the max speed of the M2 port. " The M.2 SSD can only run in PCIE GEN2 X2 speed on the MB even if it is PCIe3.0 x4 (最高32Gb/s) NVMe 1.1 device. Thanks! " Doing some quick research on the PCIE GEN2 X2 speed I found that it is limited to 1000 MB/s (8Gb/s) and that it theoretically allow a max speed of 600Mb in consequitve read / write speeds. This is as far as I know not any better then the SSD that I am currently running on my SATA 3 port as my OS disk? I'm new to M2 SSD's and Raid 0 but tech savvy otherwise so I appreciate help in getting up to par with running M2 SSD's or SSD's in Raid 0 as it performes to real world usage. Thanks for your help.
  2. Well I do care about Exterior Look, but not about showing off internals I guess the easiest solution is to dampen the window panel and either tint the window from outside or on the inside with a dark tint or reflective tint.
  3. Hi Guys, Thanks for the quick answers. Yea it does look like the right door panel won't work on the left side. Still I would love if someone with a 900D can confirm this. I have been very partial in favor of the Fractal Design Define XL R2 but since I will be overclocking I don't have enough space for radiators. I could potentially mount one in front but I would need to remove a lot of drive cages making storage an issue.
  4. Hi, So I am review possible cases for my march-april build and so far it looks like I will need a 900D. Since one of my main goals is a Silent rig I wonder if the Solid Right Door panel of the 900D can be moved to the Left side? What I am hoping to be able to do is to order an extra 900D Solid Right door to replace the Left windowed door. If that works I can get some high end noise dampening materials and stick that on the left and right doors to hopefully reduce noice levels. And yes, I know I will loose the window and all that p3rty jazz but I'm not building a "Show it Off" computer. I am building a High end Gaming & Workstation rig that I can spend hours upon hours behind, even in the Dead of night without waking up the entire neighborhood or worse yet. My Girlfriend
  5. Thanks guys. That video was very helpful. I will start to think about the Pro's and Con's of doing a 2x 780 ti water cooled instead of 2x Titans.
  6. Hi, So I will begin building my new rig somewhere around march and I'm researching MOBOs that suits my needs and is watercooled. The Z87 Maximus VI Formula looks great and has the Bells and Whistles I am looking for but I am still new to Water Cooling. I intend on running 2 evga Titans Hydra Coppar (Water Cooled), plug the custom loop into the MOBO + CPU and then up to a top Radiator. My question is if the The Z87 Maximus VI Formula "onboard" water cooling is sensible or if it is of lesser quality and most for show? I also wonder what some of the metrics are in regards to running custom water cooling loops? I read somewhere That it is important that all the metal in the loop is of the same kind. Ex. Not combining a copper item with an aluminium one? Is this true? And if so Why? Thanks a ton for you help
  7. Also in regards to a card reader. Going a USB Cable external solution isn't really an option. I will be using it on a daily basis and I rather have a fixed internal solution that doesn't get "flopped around" since it's not really fixed...
  8. 2x Samsung 840 Pro 256gb SSD's in Raid 0 will mainly be used as Bootdrives and Scratchdisks. I will later pick up WD Green drives and run in some sort of Raid mode in order to lessen the risks of data loss. Also, due to another "tech hiccup" with my website tech plattform I will switch it out entirely. This of course will cost money therefore my planned Order date for this rig is pushup up. This actually works to my advantage since Ivy-e will be released this fall (most likely) and I figure it could either turn out a more bang for the buck processor or push prices down for existing ones. Only sucky part is that I REALLY want my new rig yesterday! ;)
  9. So I learnt a couple things watching some of Dave's videos. CPU Matters! Ram is also helpful. The more the better it seems. When it comes to GPU it seems that there is a decent amount of editing program supporting CUDA cores. However unless you apply some effects (or rendering very frequently) there isn't a need for a beefy GFX Card. So if rendering small files without any effects added to them, then a low end or mid range card could work well. For bigger projects including many effects. Definitely go with a high end Cuda card. What this realisation does for my bild is that I see that I need to overclock my CPU to somewhere in the 4.5ghz range or so. I have chosen air cooling as CPU method and now think that I will need to go CPU Watercooling due to increased demand in Overclocking the CPU to avoid rendering bottlenecks in my computer. Dave here uses the Corsair 100i but I will see if I can squeeze a 110 into the Fractal Design Define R4 or look at possible 240 or 280mm rad solutions. Any tips here is of course appreciated.
  10. VERY interesting "finding bottlenecks" video in regards to video editing using Adobe Premeire.
  11. Very interesting article / video in regards to building a Video Rendering Machine. http://www.learningdslrvideo.com/new-editing-computer-build/
  12. Thats an INSANE machine If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost?
  13. I just crunched the costs for the current rig setup: Chassi Fractal Design Define R4 Alu/Titan (no window) MOBO Asus Sabertooth X79 LG 2011 CPU Intel Core i7-3930K 3.2GHz 6-Core RAM Crucial DDR3 Ballistix Tactical 32GB (8GBx4), 1600MHz HDD 2x Samsung SSD 840 PRO 256gb Graphic EVGA GTX 780 Classified ACX PSU Seasonic Platinum Series 860w DVD-RW ASUS DVD Writer, DRW-24B5ST SCHD ICY BOX IB-867-B 5,25" Card Reader/Port Monitor Asus 27" LED PB278Q I already have Keyboard & Mouse so I won't need to buy those. Cost: ~ 4031 usd incl. shipping (depending if the gfx card from germany includes shipping to Sweden. Also some parts is not in stock for the price). Future Upgrades: 1x EVGA GTX 780 Classified ACX Noctua fans (if needed) Additional storage: WD Green 3TB drives as needed. Not sure in what RAID mode I will operate these. Additional costs (not included): Windows 7 Pro, Full License, Swedish I consider this a seperate factor and a rather easy "fix" in comparision to building the entire rig. PSU Question: I need to research the PSU to make sure it is indeed a quiet/silent operating PSU that gives a great bang for the buck performance and help reduce power usage so the rig runs cooler = less work for fans = less noise. Memory Question: The Crucial DDR3 Ballistix Tactical 32GB (8GBx4), 1600MHz looks great on paper, but I wonder if there is any other alternative that gives a performance boost when rendering 1080p 30p video projects. I read that some memories make better use of multi cores then others etc. Does anyone of you guys have more insight into this?
  14. Ok so I given recent new info this project is evolving both size wise and budget wise (more economical parts etc). Chassi: Fractal Design Define R4 MOBO: Asus Sabertooth X79 ATX LGA2011 CPU: Intel Core i7-3930K 3.2GHz 6-Core Memory: Crucial DDR3 Ballistix Tactical 32GB (8GBx4), 1600MHz, 1.5V, CL8-8-8-24 HDD: 2x Samsung SSD 840 PRO 256GB configured into Raid 0 Graphics: EVGA GTX 780 Classified ACX 3GB PSU: Seasonic Platinum-860W, ATX12V ver 2.3, active PFC (not sure if I need 860W, I plan on eventually adding another EVGA GTX 780 Classified ACX 3GB more hdd etc). Also is this a Silent/quiet PSU?* Monitor: Asus 27" LED PB278Q I am having a hard time finding best prices including shipping costs to Sweden, Stockholm from international suppliers. pcpartpickers.com lacks some items in their database. Do you guys have any tips on how I can get the best prices similar to pcpartpickers.com? Also how does this rig look to you guys? Is it well balanced, well working together or do I have a bottleneck somwhere?
