Didn't really know where to post this but I thought it would be best here as I feel a lot of misinformation is about, hopefully PC per can shed some light on it. I don't have time at the moment to watch it but I thought I might as well post it.
There is an article to go along with it, probably builds on what is said in the video: http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/Dissecting-G-Sync-and-FreeSync-How-Technologies-Differ

ilOmbra reacted to Aniallation in "How many watts do I need"? Check Here!
Just a general reference for "how much wattage do I need" questions that are filling the forum. Check these and you'll have a general idea of where to start for shopping for a power supply, and questions can be diverted from "how many watts do I need" to a much more specific "what power supply should I get within my budget that will power a system that needs XXX watts"
Briefing on buying a quality power supply:
Shopping for a power supply is not all about wattage. As much as your mind or people might make it seem like so, it's not. It's about multiple factors, however the most important things are the quality of the PSU and the amps on the 12V rail. Not just watts. This is why the question of "how many watts of a PSU do I need" is becoming drowned out nowadays, because it's no longer a large variable
Info on PSU quality:
Info on PSU 12V rail amps:
On with the numbers!
Again, These numbers are established assuming you are using a quality power supply. The overclocks are also based on heavy overclocking, including overvolting.
Another way you could get a rough estimate on your own, is take the TDP of the CPU + GPU(s) and add 100W for other components. This should give you a rough estimate of the maximum power draw your PC will require at stock clock speeds.
Use these numbers when shopping for a power supply, but if you're not sure of specifically what model to get, there is absolutely nothing wrong with asking! Create a thread in this section that contains your location (country is fine), preferred store or retailer (if any), and your budget. Our community members will be happy to assist you find a good quality power supply that will be quiet, efficient, and reliable.
Hope this reference guide was of help to you if you're looking to get a new PSU to upgrade or for a build. If there's anything that you feel can be added to this, or if you have any questions then let myself know. This thread is a work in progress and I'll do my best to keep working on it so leave suggestions! Thanks for looking!

YOU WONT BE ABLE TO INSTALL ANY OTHER OS.
I was able to turn off secure boot on the prebuilt i was working on for a client but now the gates of hell are open

WAIT HOLD UP. WE DONT WANT LINUS'S PERSONAL PC. The case has a lot of meaning to him guys. It was a gift from his wife. I believe it was the first gift from her too.
EDIT: Thanks for all the likes guys! Hopefully Linus or someone from LMG will read this and this will make Linus keep his build. Even if the goal of 100k is made we should convince Linus to do another build maybe, with signatures from the whole LMG family and maybe even his wife. This would let Linus keep the build he has with the special case his wife gave him. Besides, his personal PC would be more special to him than us.

ilOmbra reacted to nicklmg in Potential new sponsor, G2A - Yay or nay?
Specifically brought that up in our call.
Not all of the hacked Ubi codes were sold through them, but some were. Apparently anyone who purchased an affected code through them was able to reach out to customer support and get a new code, essentially no questions asked.

ilOmbra reacted to nicklmg in Potential new sponsor, G2A - Yay or nay?
Hey everyone!
I've been in initial discussions with G2A.com about potentially sponsoring LTT and our other shows. I've used them a few times in the past without issue, but a little Googling shows that public opinion about them is a little iffy...
So, before we move any further with this, I want your feedback. Should we explore this opportunity? Have you used G2A in the past? Was your experience positive or negative? Post your thoughts below.
I'm especially interested in experiences with their customer support team. One of their major pitches in our call was "we are a marketplace rather than a seller, but we take the risk for both the buyer and the seller, and any issues with invalid keys can easily be resolved through our customer support team." Have you used their 24/7 customer support in the past? Were they able to resolve your issue in a timely manner?
Let me know down below. Would love to hear what you folks have to say.
Thanks!
Nick

ilOmbra reacted to LinusTech in Parts List for ULTIMATE Surround 2.5K Gaming PC Build Guide
This ultimate build guide is for folks who want a truly beast surround gaming experience. 4K is a hot buzzword right now, but if immersion is what you're after, three 2560x1440 (2.5k) monitors in a surround config might be a better bet for you... Too bad it's also much more demanding to run than a single 4K display!
I'm going to list out the components as well as provide a source or two for where you can get them
I can't tell you where to buy this stuff, but I do lean towards NCIX for the Canadians (and International viewers if their pricing and shipping costs work out for you) because they're my bros, and for Americans, Brits, and a couple other regions, the Amazon links below are affiliate links, so of course every little bit helps

ilOmbra reacted to Victorious Secret in Valve was given a 'F' in customer service by the BBB
Valve should be happy that a letter grade under F doesn't exist, cause their customer service departments deserve far worse. Its a catastrophic joke that the "lords storefront" as some would say has some of the worst customer service that I've ever experienced.
Its not an excuse that Valve is "just a storefront for many brands". So is Amazon, yet Amazon will basically give you a happy ending if it means maintaining your business - on ANYTHING they sell. Customer service is a big deal, especially for online retailers that deal with customers who just can't solve issues and return items in person.
The BBB certainly isn't the last word in service rankings, but they aren't unknowns. They know a thing or two, they know bad service when they see it; that even the BBB hasn't gotten Valve to wake up and hire a dedicated customer service department? Kinda tragic. It is.
Hey Valve, if Amazon can serve a majority of the developed world and have CSRs who will get back to me within 12 hours of initial contact (and minutes to hours after that), what is your excuse? Too busy making hats for your games or what?

Pic of partial install. See how when I installed HS for CPU1 then 2 I did it with the fan installed. Pretty tight...
All the HS's and fans installed, ram in...
Close up of ram. Notice the clearance of the ram and the fan... or lack thereof. :)
Here we see the assembly of the HS to the board...
Mobo installed in the fame...
Additional front fans installed (BTW - it's not supposed to look pretty - just crank out PPD)
IT'S ALIVE!!!
Screen Shot of HFM - Check FOLDING1 - the 32 Core system... yes, 341,282 PPD :D
BTW - a lot read a zero because HFM cannot detect PPD yet on Beta core projects.

ilOmbra reacted to SanityAgathion in Ex nVidia engineer: every game ships broken, we fix it in drivers
Games ship broken, we know it. But who do you blame when your shiny powerful GPU performs like rubbish, or shows tons of geometry and texture glitches? In many cases the game code is so broken that hardware manufacturer needs to step in. And apparently this had become so common practice now, that game developers do not bother to optimize, or even properly write code running on GPUs at all, because they know "it will get fixed in drivers". Per forum post on gamedev.net:
This is also one of the reasons why it is so hard for smaller manufacturers of graphic chips to break into this market: they just don't have resources to cope with the amount of 'gaming history' built into drivers, and don't have engineering capacities able to comprehend both source code of drivers, and game itself.
Another interesting observation, in the light of recent new APIs that we all look forward to:
