That is the prudent move.  While my suggested kit is assumed to be the better overclocker -- it isn't guaranteed.

If I was in the market specifically for a retro gaming TV yeah, that'd be a big glorious TV with lots of good analog inputs.  And Trinitron/Wega tubes are probably the best made for CRTs.  (Those TVs were NOT cheap when they were new).

But, CRT tubes do eventually fail.  Don't buy a 15+ year old TV without seeing the picture first, make sure it's still good.  Also at 235lbs... Well, that is a major downside of CRTs. ^_^;;;  Not to mention the 240w consumption it pulls in a lot more than my 65" 4K TV.  On the other hand, you are keeping a lot of leaded glass out of dumpster and that is good for the environment in it's own way.

It's a good TV and the caveats are what they are basically.

The problem with 480p is you're not going to find a lot of machines or games that supported it.  The classic Xbox could do 480p for all games (And even 720p or 1080i on some games), SOME PS2 titles could do 480p or other modes.  But it's not a long list.  A lot of of the time 480i is the BEST you'll get out of the hardware.

Sony's larger Trinitron and Wega CRTs made after 2000 go for like $50 used, if you can find them.  Normally the 27" models or higher have component.  ...Also they are like 99lbs (150lbs or so for the 32"s).  Guess why I got rid of my 27" Sony Wega some years ago! There's about 99lbs worth of reasons.  I just emulate now. >_>

But yes a proper CRT for retrogaming isn't always what you need.  You can alternatively look at a Framemeister or something to convert the signal, quickly, into a digital signal for your HDTV.  That's also a an option and a lot of enthusiasts go that way because while they want a low lag experience, they want it on a giant modern TV.  But long story short; Very, very, VERY few HDTVs have the necessary hardware built in to read analog video and give the best experience for retro gaming.  It's so far from a priority it's not funny.  It's basically a legacy connection to avoid consumer rage.

I don't enter benchmark mode and just leave it running for 30-60 minutes.

My G1 only gets up to 66 when I'm benching with heaven at 99% usage. I'm guessing Gigabyte's cooling is a bit better, but you may just need a more aggressive fan curve.

So this is a thread where people throw reasonable arguments at monaka and he deflects them with his AMD branded shield to white knight for AMD, right? I mean, performance differences are now being downplayed as merely one factor. This is just silly.

Are you really that dense? Honestly. The 980ti is already beating a 1K card and for the same price it beats the Fury X too! That's the point. It costs the same as a 980ti, uses more power, is loud, OC's for crap, and doesn't perform as well in most games. AMD is a disappointment. They hype their products up and fall flat on their faces. That's why Nvidia owns most of the market share. Pascal with HBM2 will wipe the floor with AMD as well. They don't have the funds to compete anymore. If it wasn't for a group of fanboys from the ATi days AMD would have went under years ago.

Yeah, I got frustrated with nothing working, so I just went the more limited homegroup route; and that is fully working.

There is something about having an active display port adapter in order for HDMI to DP to work right. To be honest I don't know enough about DP converting so hopefully another forum member can help out. Though if you want to shop around for similar solutions to the one I linked the devices are "displayport switches". If you have any other questions just shoot me a tell. Have a good day.

I am wondering where I could get replacement Corsair RM series cables? I have the RM 750 and one of my dual 6+2 pin cables is messed up. I was able to get it to work by moving the metal around inside the holes--excuse extreme lack of proper vocabulary--but I just don't fully trust it. I saw full sets on their website, but that's spendy, and I really don't need all that. I also don't actually need them to be 8 pin--just doing SLI 980s--so a dual 6 pin would be just fine. I know there are plenty of other stores to buy cables, but I'd like to get the actual Corsair ones if possible. Any ideas?

Exactly! Browns aren't exactly crisp in feel, add the dampening factor of the orings and it's extreme mushiness! W/o the orings, you get more of that mechanical feel when you depress the keys, and bottom out. Now, w/o the orings in the way, I think you'll find it much more enjoyable to use the G710+.

Actually you wont.  Games don't utilize more than 4 cores, so going from an i5 to i7, to i7-5960 will show zero fps improvements once they are all running at the same Ghz.

If you want to avoid bottlenecks, get an i5.  Plain and simple, i5 is the best processor for all-around gaming.

I've been guilty of this flawed thought process too, but the 980 isn't replacing the 780ti, it's replacing the 780--which it fully outclasses. The fact that it is already matching/beating the 780ti with way lower power consumption seems pretty impressive to me. Now if you want the successor to the 780ti, then we'll just have to see what the 980ti is capable of. And be ready to drop $700+, of course. :3
