That's what I was going to use, just wasn't sure if I'd be able to get G-Sync/Freesync to work due to some weird, potentially unseen kink in the chain or not. Good to know.
  3. Can a Windows 10 VM intended for gaming have working G-Sync/Freesync on it?  Logically it sounds like it should once V-Sync is enabled and the monitor is set up for it, but I could be wrong.  As well in terms of bang for buck; should I just be snagging Threadripper for VM environments at this point?  My primary OS' tend to be Pop!OS, Kali Linux, and Manjaro.  Haven't used Windows 10 in awhile, and I mean a long while, but thinking of using a VM for gaming since outside of Steam, certain games(MMO's in particular) have a rougher time on Linux.

You probably should create a thread inquiring about it though.

I'd advise making a thread about it as well. Plenty more people who will be willing to help.

No one minds. You can come and go, people will still do their best to help.

  4. To the few people who are still active or read updates; when is Alder Lake coming out?  I know the GPU shortage isn't ending anytime soon, but, I'm suffering.  I have that upgrade itch and I've salvaged my 1080 post VRMs melting.  I also am not really keen to go for an i5 11400 or a 5600x given how within this year or next; DDR5 and the normalization of ECC will be upon us.  I really wish the GPU shortage would end, though.  I need a 3060ti or something to replace this bastard.

Apparently it'll launch in the last quarter of this year. If I hadn't gone Ryzen 3000 already I'd probably be holding out right now for it myself. Just because it is something very different from everything else that I've used (as it is I'll be buying an i7 5775C if I see one for sale - still have my Z97 Sabertooth for it).

You can still find him out in the ether. He sometimes shows up on WCCFTECH articles to argue against people about how they're stupid and he's correct.

Remember when he was 100% certain that AMD would go bankrupt in 2014/2015 and nVidia would buy their X86 license and Intel would consume Radeon? Even in the Linux space it's fun to see how much AMD is out-doing their competitors. nVidia is losing 10% of their market-share in Linux every year now.
  7. Sometimes I wonder if PatrickJP is having an aneurysm at the fact that everything Intel does is a flop lately and everything AMD does is a roaring success.  He can't be taking it very well.

  8. I suspected this back in June. Already reconciled with the fact that for the next three years PC-building is on hold, unless you buy from a custom manufacturer like Origin or Digital Storm; they seem to be the only ones to get stock in + 10-15% mark-up over MSRP as opposed to 50%-100% over MSRP.
  9. Proud that I never touched Reddit. Even once. That said; Reddit firing her is for the best. Though technically they shouldn't have had too, since she should've never been HIRED in the first place, but, eh.
  10. This better earn me back that $25K I sunk in to the meme.
  11. This is why I deleted my discord and explicitly demanded my data wiped awhile ago. Fully expected them to sell out eventually and whoever buys them, isn't buying in to the idea of the platform or in to anything other than the massive data collection it provides. Matrix+Teamspeak serves my needs just fine enough. Though it would be kind of fun to see if Microsoft does buy Discord; I remember monitoring skype and watching it send data to India constantly when I had it fifteen years ago.
  12. GrapheneOS and LineageOS are the go-to ones. GrapheneOS now has Pixel 5's and 4a supported, if you like or trust 5G. Buddy of mine was able to get an iPhone 6 to run Lineage with some work.
  13. When I used a degoogled phone I never had any of the issues you describe; F-Droid has come a long way. I highly recommend to most people, though, not to use their phone except for being a mobile browser and maybe IM's and some secured phone calls. You can create your own applications that just take you direct to a URL link through Mozilla or Tor on your phone; like for banking, if you absolutely need to access your finances all the time. Many of their telemetry may appear disabled for both Apple & Google, and yet it can still be detected to be running when submitted for review and checks; I personally would rather both companies know next to zero about me, and have gone to great lengths to ensure that. Even when I had a de-googled phone I made sure to use multiple browsers for different purposes specifically to avoid potential profiling of activity. Same thing I do for my desktop; five browsers, each for a different purpose. For awhile I did the same thing for my phones; a phone for LTE calling only at home and familial texting. A phone for browsing the internet with certain hardware features removed like the camera and microphone(which is actually kinda a fun project), and a phone that was used for doctors and personal business which had no internet connectivity, a Sim card that would only be put in as needed, and also missing camera, but not microphone.
  14. Expect prices to remain high, but decrease somewhat from where they are now. They may not be as high as they are now in the future, but the prices of old are definitely not coming back around for a few years. I'd suspect you may get some respite sometime between late 2022 and mid 2023. Supply will fluctuate.
  15. I like the concept of Apple being private or having a "privacy-focus" even if it is a lie on their part. Given that Apple logs and watches every app that is downloaded and opened on the iPhone, not to mention Mac with their newest OS update. Or the fact that iPhone is constantly using network scanning for keeping up with where your device ID is located at any given time, and allows them GPS tagging no matter where you are; sure it is great if you, y'know, need to locate your device if it was stolen, but not great if you're interested in your privacy. And remember, that networking scanning "feature" isn't something you can ever turn off. It's on the motherboard, built in-to the broadcom chip for every phone. If a phone for privacy is warranted you should be de-googling an old Android, getting an Ubuntu-touch phone, getting a flip-phone with a burner sim-card or eliminate a cell-phone from your life. The latter being the hardest but most rewarding thing in the world. I went back to an old PDA and a Pager. Never been happier.

Y'all ever wonder if Patrickjp93, after being so incredibly wrong on Intel buying out AMD and splitting it up with nVidia back in 2015, has just given up on life? I mean, he spent years on LTT flipping shit over Intel being superior in everyway, and then the last two years has just been "Intel has infinite vulnerabilities, can't compete with AMD, losing marketshare, GPU is a flop, not innovating" and AMD stock price goes from $1 to $50 in four years.

Update on all Samsung products I have owned; they've all died. Spectacularly. NVME and Sata SSD's, DVD/Blue ray players, phones, etc. Not sure if it is my luck or just Samsung QC, but, Samsung is my least trusted brand now.
  20. Just going to throw this out there; I have had no issue with longevity with Crucial, Adata, or Western Digital SSD's; NVME or SATA. I have had, on the other hand, Samsung SSD's fail on me multiple times in the last four years.
  21. When I quit Linustech almost 3 years ago; I had quit all technology youtube channels.  Everything.  I had lost interest in technology completely.  Shortly after I had gotten married to my girlfriend - moved in to the mountains, built a house and a farm; began my conversion to Orthodox Christianity and took up new hobbies.  Firearms became and remain to be my #1 hobby.  Following that it is Motorcycles.  Following that it is still Audio.  Blon BL-03's do everything that HD800S do, and they're $40.  Just saying.  IEM'S > Headphones.  I am turning 24 in July, and have grown a full beard(y'know, mountain man style), hair is no longer shaved all the time, but down to my shoulders and it has begun to grey(to my surprise and dismay).   Also lost 100lbs, got my health under control(colitis), and despite my wife going in and out of kidney failure since January of 2020 - my life has never been happier.  She's recovering, and doctors are still figuring out what the cause is; possibly sarcoidosis, possible recurring kidney infection, possibly all caused by an acute allergic reaction to a chemical.

To summarize; life is good.  To the few people who still pick arguments with my account from half a decade ago or so.  All I want you to know is this:  Whatever I believed in way back then, might not be the same thing I believe in now, but I will defend myself from back then because no matter what - you're still wrong.

Stock BL03s have the shiiiiittiest cables though. They're great for the price, but don't compare to top tier headphones.

I'd say it's your luck. I've had nothing but excellent experiences with all of my Samsung gear, and they've been to this day the most dependable phones I've owned.

Wasn't he Apple focused? I mean, he wasn't wrong back then. AMD was horrible in the Bulldozer/refresh years.
