Technane got a reaction from Overlandr in Home garden WiFi advice
How far does the Wifi already reach into your garden? use something like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer&hl=en_GB
to see, as it might simply be a case of updating the channel you are using now.
Ubiquiti sounds a bit overkill for this. as all you really need to do is add either Repeater or Antenna to the outside of your house. but that all depends if you have a a router that has external antena that you can unscrew?
essentially the other point that needs to be made, Wifi works much better outdoors than it does indoor, so an access point like this
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-Waterproof-Installation-Controller-EAP110-Outdoor/dp/B01N4EGN6H
will more than likely completely flood your garden if you put it up high enough on the outside of the house, does need cabeling and if poss POE,
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-Waterproof-Installation-Controller-EAP110-Outdoor/dp/B01N4EGN6H
so essentially you run a network cable to the wall facing the garden, plug it into that POE switch, then run a cable from that POE switch too the AP, so about £80 for your hardware + cable, if you can terminate CAT 5 Then Cool just get some indoor cable for the Router to Switch part, and some outdoor for the Switch to AP part.
CAT5 isnt actually that hard to terminate if you have the correct tools
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Crimping-Stripper-Connection-Connectors-Ethernet/dp/B06WW4SQB9
this is probably the clearest diagram, you cable both ends the same .. A-A or B-B I normally use 568-B for all my patch cables

Technane got a reaction from Lurick in Setting up file share across two switches
Well as i've worked in IT for years my best mantra is, "A ping does not mean a thing!" essentailly a ping response can come from anywhere and not actually from the destination you are trying to reach.
What does tracert tell you? do you have device discovery on, on both computers ?

Technane got a reaction from BSpendlove in What router should I get?
That 100mb is just coming from the routers 100mbps switching capability, essentially any router than can go up to 1gbps on the switching side would give you what you need.

Technane got a reaction from TVwazhere in Build for Solidworks and Visualize (Budget build)
Nice to know, Been a fair few years since i actually flexed my wrists on some 3d modelling. its still not have that i7 single thread or not, the performance benefit for single thread doesn't really out way the multi core benefit .. but that's just my Opinion.

well the other option is fine the two pins on the header where you plugged the power switch and such
and find the ones that resets bios and short them, turn it on, and clear the short

Technane got a reaction from GT1986 in Looking for VPN help
ExpressVPN would be my recommend, its the only one I know of (and actively use) which will help you if you complain to them when netflix reports the use of VPN, it also has apps for my smart TV which means its easier.

Technane got a reaction from dalekphalm in Can I use a pressure sprayer as a paint sprayer
you can't water down house emulsions and such you need to use a thinner,
essentially NO you can't use that, the thinner would probably eat the bottle lol
also if you thin down emulsion, it means you normal 2-3 coats for a good paint job would be 8-10 coats! get a roller and do it, takes about an hour to do a decent sized wall one coat.

Technane got a reaction from NeatSquidYT in Does this build work?
with your budget I personally would drop the intel and go AMD as you will get more bang for buck that way.
as for optical drive, anything will do as long as its SATA connected DVDR multi drive is probably the cheapest but Blu Ray Multi drives aren't too costly.

Technane got a reaction from Archer.pl in Black screen few seconds after starting a game, stress test
Could be overheating? can you run something like CoreTemp or GPUTemp and get it to log see if the Temps spike?
-
Technane reacted to WolfDeville in Weird monitor flickering
Well you can only see it because the screen itself is fucked, it looks normal to us because ours is fine....
