  1. Hello everyone! I bought an MSI GE62 6QD a while ago and I'm really happy with it. However, the 128GB SSD fills up quite easily and I'd like a separate SSD to install games on. The laptop comes with a 128GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. At first, I thought I had an extra slot for a 2nd SSD, but apparently, it's just the HDD slot that can also be used for an SSD. I could make the switch, but I'd like to keep my HDD as well. After doing some research, I found out about HDD caddies that can be installed in the optical disk drive slot. Luckily, the GE62 comes with that, so the way I understand it, is that I can remove the disk drive (which I don't use anyway...) and install one of those caddies. That way, I could put my HDD in the caddy and place a second SSD where the HDD used to be. So here are my questions: 1) Does this work? Does anyone have experience with HDD caddies? I've looked a few up and they seem kinda flimsy. 2) Will this caddy decrease the speed of my HDD (in a noticeable way)? 3) I have a Samsung 850 EVO SSD that I could put in the HDD spot, but can I put a regular SSD in a laptop? Will it get damaged? Thank you very much for your helpful responses! I appreciate it!
  2. Are Dell and Lenovo good? They seem to be cheaper than MSI, but I've heard / read some bad things about them: poor performance, Dell is said to break easily, and apparently both Dell and Lenovo put some kind of software in their systems that leaves your computer open to threats? Maybe that's been fixed now though, it's been a while since I heard that.
  3. Hi guys, I'm moving to Australia for a year in January (I live in Belgium now) and I need a laptop since I'll be moving around a bit. I'm going to use it for gaming, writing, some graphic design, and some day-to-day stuff like internet, movies etc. I might try to pick up some light video editing as well, simply because I like learning new skills lol. I play games like Civ, Smite, Cities:Skylines and the occasional RPG or MMO. I already know the basics of what I want: Intel i7 processor Nvidia gtx 970m or 960m 16gb ram 1TB hdd (preferably also 128gb ssd) So here are my questions: 1) Should I put down the money to get a Skylake processor so I can benefit from new processor + DDR4 RAM? 2) Should I focus more on GPU (i.e. get the 970M instead of 960M) instead of CPU? Getting both the skylake i7 and the 970M seems out of my price range... 3) I thought the 960M had 2gb vram, yet some websites say 3 or 4gb. Are there several version or are their info sheets wrong? (probs the latter, right?) 4) Are the MSI laptops worth the money? I found this one: MSI GE62 Apache Pro (Dutch site, I'm sorry), which is currently the cheapest I've found for that kind of hardware. 1399EUR is roughly 1520USD. 1399EUR is also the most I want to pay. I can go a bit above it, but I would prefer not to. Do you guys have any recommendations for other laptops? P.S.: I prefer 15,6 inch over 17inch. It's easier to carry around (and usually cheaper) Thank you!
  4. Hey guys! Only about 4 months ago, I built my first computer, which I use mainly for gaming, but as of late more and more graphic design stuff as well (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign mostly). Persuaded by a friend of mine, I bought the R9 280X Vapor-X card for € 289 ($ 371). I kinda regret it because it's quite loud and I get the feeling that nvidia offers better driver support and game optimalisation (this was extremely noticeable when I tried out Wildstar which ran like shit on my AMD card, but apparently nvidia cards worked just fine...). With the release of the GTX 970 it seemed like a good idea to change my graphics card, but in order to not lose all the money I spent on the 280X, I was thinking of selling the 280X, but i have no idea what I can still ask for it... What do you think would be an acceptable price? I have only been using it for roughly 4 months and haven't done any overclocking or crazy stuff with it. Also, do you agree that it would be a good idea to upgrade or am I being silly? If I look at some benchmarks, the 970 seems to be a pretty decent enough upgrade from the 280X, but I would welcome your opinions. My other specs are: AMD FX8350 @ 4 ghz (can boost up to 4.5 though) Asus sabertooth 990 FX R2.0 8gb RAM CoolerMaster 650W 128gb SSD Samsung EVO 1TB Western DIgital HDD Additional question: if I were to go 970 SLI in the future, would this PSU be able to handle it? Or is 650W not enough? Thank you!
