  1. ASRock has a motherboard that has a similar layout (4+1 phase power delivery) and they only allow certain 8 core CPUs with a downdraft cooler. Some of them had temperature stability issues without overclocks. I have to stress again that that was a different mainboard from yours. If you get a big downdraft cooler like the Noctua NH-C14 or something beefy you might be able to get some overclock in. But I have to agree with the poster before me: Do some research and search for some people with the same CPU and mobo combinaiton. It is way cheaper to learn from other peoples mistakes.
  2. Regarding other networks: Wifi stops talking if another network starts to talk on the same channel (at least as far as I have understood it). As far as I am aware the controller software does not need to run 24/7 (their website states the same). The last version I had in my hands was Java based soooooo .... if everybody lies you could still run it from a pi ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . As far as I have read it is set up and forget. But the two units I had my hands on ran dd-wrt, which meant I was not able to use the controller (duh!). If you are really interested in the ubiquiti stuff you could check out their support forums: https://community.ubnt.com/t5/custom/page/page-id/Forums They should have some really great pointers and solid information.
  3. Der = male specific article in German (somewhat like the english "the") Bernd = Three sources 1) German version of "anon" or anonymus 2) Boss in a German office sitcom who manages to be jingoistic, anti-feminist, racist and generally very offensive 3) My nickname at university because of my mean comments Quote from Bernd: Office parties are like the last supper. Always too few girls, the food sucks and afterwards there's trouble.
  4. I find it amazing that nobody has thought of m.2 or PCIe SSDs. I mean who would not want to have 2Gigabytes per second read and write? If you get Titans they will be standard-layout PCBs meaning: Blower style, in combination with a AiO watercooler you can exhaust all your heat out of your case meaning you can build a small but powerful system. Running dual Titans plus PCIe SSD means that you need some serious amount of PCIe lanes on your CPU. That is something to consider. In terms of other storage: get a 500 Gb SATA SSD for "slow storage" and then just get a NAS. In terms of other components: You OWE yourself some bling with that kind of pocket money. Meaning: a bonus features galore (fan controller, fan controlled PSU et cetera). I mean: of course you can spend all the money in the world and then some in CPU, GPU and other performance critical things. But: think of it as a car: If it has 500 horsepower and costs 100k+ it better be fully equipped.
  5. That is not entirely true. Wifi dongles with the AC wifi standard have a USB 3.0 plug. USB 3.0 is up to 5 Gigabit. If you use a mPCIe wifi card you have a 1x PCIe connection with the corresponding bandwith. What I want to say is: the connector type for a USB device is more often than not not the bottleneck. OP mentioned that he is using 802.11ac and not 802.11g what your speeds suggest. @ OP: Bad transfer speeds over wifi can be due to unclean air. Meaning a lot of other radio signals from other wifi routers on the 5Ghz band and possibly other stuff. Do not think signal strength in this case. The wifi standard was designed to be polite, it stops to transmit when someone else is transmitting. Something like talking with 6 friends at a table, only one can talk at a time. Take your 5Ghz enabled Smartphone and take a look at the readout of the app wifi analyzer that shows you the other wifi ssid's in the area and their channel.
  6. What is the machine you are copying to? If the target can't keep up with writing (a myriad of reasons are possible) you won't use the full capacity of your wifi.
  7. If you disassemble your mouse (if you want it clean I would recommend that) you can throw it into the ultrasonic cleaner with some sort of fat solvent mixed in the water (be it some kind of soap or other stuff). If there is not anything electronic or overly mechanic connected to the outer shell you could throw the outer shell in the dishwasher. Just for Protocoll: Do not clean the circuit boards of the mouse (duh!). A little brake cleaning fluid might do the trick but it might as well damage the surface of your mouse.
  8. Thanks a bunch. Now I can finally conquer the world again.
  9. That worked. Thank you very much. I threw that idea out before because it could not possibly the solution, but turns out: it is. Hm, how does one set a topic as answered/solved or do I need moderators privileges for that?
  10. Hi, I am wondering if it is possible to turn Windows 8.1 to 16 Bit color depth. I am running following machine: AMD FX-4170 Gigabyte GA970A-D3 ATI/AMD Radeon HD6870 some RAM some Drives Video Drivers are (Danger translated from German to English, categorys might be named different in English) Driver-Package Version 14.501.1003-141120a-178000C Catalyst-Version: 14.12 AMD Catalyst Omega Software I would like to be able to play hearts of iron 2 in windowed mode since I have three screens (1680x1050 and 2x (1280x1024) and since the engine is not optimized for anything else than 16 Bit and ancient resolutions. I know the second world war was a grim time, I do not want to make it any grimmer by introducing horrific scaling. To achieve that I need the mentioned 16 Bits of color depth. Additional information: right-click to desktop, select a monitor -> Advanced Options -> list all modes does only produce 32 bit resolution options. I hope I can solve this under Windows so that I do not have to use my linux Box for gaming (or get a second SSD for the gaming rig and let it run linux for the express purpose of playing games windowed).
  11. What kind of license do you have? I.E. how did the windows version you are using end up in your posession: Was it preinstalled by the PC manufacturer? Was it purchased as retail version? Was it purchased by a company for their computers?
  12. You could take a look into the Event Viewer of your (I presume Windows) machine. Click here. Just because your computer is the only one having the problem does not mean it is the cause. It can be, but it does not have to be.

  14. Second to the above. You do not want to put stuff on your components, cigarettes and stuff that burns are a no-no. You do not want any cold smoke that would lead to condensation or any water vapor, that can condense too. So you want dry smoke at room temperature. Or expendable hardware.
  15. Change the position of your PC to your non drinking side. Maybe try some non-soda options for your daily drink since they are very high in sugar. But all joking aside: Post a picture of the position of your rig, so that we can ridicule your choice of anything visible in the picture and then maybe give you some options.
