Why is a setting that runs like shit on both cards, that can be turned off, such a big deal to everyone. 

I still fail to see how the game is "ruined" because of hairworks. Here's an idea, just turn it off.

Removes all possible bottlenecks leaving it solely to the card's performance. Hard concept, I know.

Do kids like you ever consider that Nvidia sells well because they actually make a good product and that marketing actually lets people know their product still exist and are new? That people know Nvidia makes stuff? Nah, you don't consider that. 
Price to performance is far from the only metric used to buy products, BTW. You'll learn that when you grow up.

Last generation they did. They were very firmly behind Intel and Nvidia in terms of heat output (mainly because their products bar a couple were years old at [re]launch), to the point where the stock 290X was practically useless its TDP and cooler were so poorly matched. In response to Maxwell AMD really needed a message that they were taking heat seriously this time and making something efficient. So they pulled another 9590 and shoved an AIO on it. Not exactly promising.
 
Back in the 480/580 era the places of Nvidia and AMD were rightfully switched but things have changed a lot since then.

Uh you know the stock card literally is watercooled, right? Like... it's not a joke. The card literally is so hot that AMD forwent air cooling entirely...

By the title of this article you can imagine what TecLab have done some mad things.
 
This time, they prepared a expensive Titan X for Maximum overclocking, modifying it totally, thats mandatory in order to break the limits of overclocking on this card.
 
The problem is doing this anything can happen, and in this case, it did.
 
Acording with the overclockers Ronaldo "rbuass", Overclocking champion, and his partner, Jacson "bros", the board literly catch fire after the modifications.
 
"We've done hundreds of cards this way, so called "Zombies" with a custom Power management system, but we have never seen this happen, After being tested and working flawlessly for some minutes, our hope colapsed" said Buassali.
 
He did also telled that "Suddenly it start to spark and then catched fire", he resigned the situation, since it is part of his life as an overclocker, However, both of then could not give up after so much hard work and a so big Hope of succes.
 
Sure their will its the break of the World Records on 3D Graphics, something that so much times they did, but what to do with that crisppy card?

They are very rare the professionals who do this level of modifications to a card, not everybody can do a zombie like that, but doing the prosthesis its something even beyond in the TecLabs history.

I do not have an opinion on this until we have some more testing about this issue. It could just be a problem on ASUS's end, it wouldn't be the first time, so it's just a wait and see for me.
 
Agreed, I remember when Ryan reported and even tested AMD's frame pacing problems and people were calling him a Nvidia fanboy for talking "crap" on AMD. Uh no? He is reporting on an issue that has existed for years that no one really noticed/could test for until then and he followed up on it for months. If he was a Nvidia fanboy he wouldn't have reported on it and kept it a secret!

I don't know what you're talking about my EVGA 780 is still performing really well in the latest titles with settings maxed

I have a GTX 970, have no real issues with VRAM because even pushing 4K at a mix of Very High and High, I'm not running into over 3.5GB VRAM usage.

OMG, the outrage that they mislabeled something! Incoming angry teen angst posts about how MS is satan or something.
