  1. I have recently put together a new PC with a 7800x3D, RTX 4080, 2TB NVME SSD and 32GB of RAM in order to upgrade from my 10 year old GTX 770 PC. I'm looking to buy a new 27 inch 1440p monitor to go with it. I have looked at Monitors Unboxed / RTings reviews but this is very outside of my comfort zone so I am looking for advice from people who know about monitors Budget: My maximum budget is £500. I am based in the UK Features: my strong preference is for no curve, as my desk is not deep and I plan to put my current 1080p monitor to the left of the new one to have two screens. Height/tilt and swivel adjust is also very important to me. I have a preference for a simple narrow stand but it is not a deal breaker to have a wide stand. Preference for no RGB backlighting either. My current 1080p monitor is IPS so would ideally like to keep the same technology (I think OLED would get burned out very quickly due to having word / PDFs open all day) Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Whilst it was built for gaming, I spend 10 hours a day using it for office work so something that has high legibility for Microsoft Word & PDF documents is a must AAA games such as Jedi Survivor, Fallen Order Grand Strategy games such as CK3 and Stellaris Strategy and city builders such as Total War, Cities Skylines etc The odd bit of CSGO (but very casually and not very often) and Minecraft etc Various indie games Thank you for your help
  2. Hi all, I managed to get a deal on the Corsair SF-L1000W so I purchased that for use in my new computer. This post is split into two separate questions: 1. The 2x8pin EPS cables and 1x24pin cable are too short to fit my motherboard in the Lian Li 216. I have been unable to get longer replacement cables from Corsair directly, as they state that this has a 'Type 5' interface and they do not sell replacement cables. Therefore, I was looking to get some extension cables but wanted to check if these are correct/compatible for my use case or if anyone could direct me to options that would be compatible: a. https://www.scan.co.uk/products/30cm-silverstone-pp07-mbb-24-pin-to-24-pin-atx-extension-cable-male-to-female-braided-black b. https://www.scan.co.uk/products/30cm-silverstone-pp07-eps8b-8pin-to-eps12v-8pin4plus4pin-extension-cable-male-to-female-braided-blac 2. I have got a 4080 in my new computer and one feature of this power supply is that it has a 12vhpwr cable that is part of the PSU bundled cables. I read online that there have been issues with these connectors. I have plugged it all the way in, and tried pulling back out to ensure it is fully seated. But I wanted to check whether people thought there may be too much strain on the cable/connector from the pictures? To the touch, it's stiff but semi-movable and I've deliberately routed it up from the PSU (rather than behind the back panel) to lessen any potential kinks. Thanks for your help in advance. This is my first PC build in 10 years so just wanted to check everything
  3. Hello all. I had to use the money for something else temporarily but now have rebuilt my budget so seeking some more help. As it has been a month, has the 7800X3D issue disappeared? I've re-specced it to take into account the new prices so would love some feedback on it please: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/NVW4Xy The Samsung 970 Pro 2TB, Corsair PSU and RAM have already been purchased I still have my offer code for OverclockersUK of 10% off up to £2500 as the things already purchased have been deals I've spotted / through work. Some questions I need help with: GPU: RTX 4080 vs 7900XTX. I see they're now going for roughly the same price so would like some advice about which to get. At the moment, my priority games are single player campaign or city builders so I think I may use ray-tracing or DLSS if that makes a substantial difference and AMD don't have an equivalent? Please let me know what you think Motherboard: I watched HardwareUnboxed's recent video about B650 mother boards. He is a bit all over the place when it comes to mid-tier recommendation so I want to ask for advice. My main thing is I want something with M2 PCIE Gen 5 as well as something which will be stable. I've identified: Asrock B650 PG Lightening, Asrock B650M Riptide and Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX.The Riptide seems the cheapest with my feature set but a previous HardwareUnboxed video said you had to tweak BIOS settings to get it to work and some of the VRMs don't seem to have cooling so wanted to check if that was still the case? Case: Torn between Fractal Pop air, Corsair 4000D and NZXT H7 due to GamersNexus review. My PC will be sat on the floor and RGB is not desired so is there significant difference between them or shall I just picked the cheapest Thanks for your help!
  4. I currently use a GTX 770 so definitely not currently using ray tracing. The reviews seem to indicate that it significantly limits FPS for a very marginal gain in visual quality so I'm unlikely to have it on by default. The two sets of RAM was a mistake. I meant to do one set of 32GB as I can always add another set in in a couple of years when the prices decrease to bring it up to 64GB In terms of the suggested build just a few follow up questions: 1. Can I ask why you have picked that motherboard? They all seem very similar these days so just curious why that one 2. Are there any other factors to consider apart from FPS and ray tracing for my use case to consider when choosing a GPU 3. Will that case provide enough airflow for my air cooled CPU and GPU given it has 5.25in bays?
  5. Budget (including currency): £2000 (I have a one-time use code for OverclockersUK) Country: UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: AAA games such as Jedi Survivor, Fallen Order Grand Strategy games such as CK3 and Stellaris Strategy and city builders such as Total War, Cities Skylines etc The odd bit of CSGO (but very casually and not very often) and Minecraft etc Various indie games General office work Provisional build I have put together: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/dXzyJM I have a 10% off one-time use discount code from OverclockersUK which is why that is just over £2.2k The Samsung 970 Pro 2TB for £76 is a deal I am getting from a friend I am very flexible for suggestions on all parts of the system. This is what I've put together from my viewing of LTT One big question is whether to get the RTX 4080 vs 7900XTX. They seem to be relatively same price and have similar performance? PC requirements: 1440p gaming at a comfortably high fps - games listed above. I can only fit a monitor of max 30in and want to keep high framerates so I'm leaning to 1440p gaming Ideally futureproof enough that most components won't need to be replaced in the next 4-5 years (although always willing to add more RAM, storage etc) RGB is not a factor- I'd rather not have it if it makes stuff cheaper / can get better items for the same price Noise- relatively quiet during normal working hours would be nice (would just be word, emails, chrome etc for work time) Quality of life > Aesthetics Will be sitting on the floor due to limited desk space (preference mid-tower case) Already have a copy of Windows that can be used Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Stuff that can be transported from my current set-up 3x 256GB Samsung 850 Evo 4 Noctua Fans Already have 2 x 24in 1080p monitors (will use one as the secondary monitor) Will need to get a new primary monitor that's 1440p but I'll do another post for that and have allocated a separate £500 budget for that
  6. I currently have an HP envy m6-1232sa which I upgraded to an SSD but it is without its laptop screen When I boot off the SSD, the external monitor displays the Windows lock screen. I now want to replace this SSD with a HDD again however when I try and clone the SSD, when I turn the computer on, I get no display on my external monitor When I try and plug in a Windows 10 installation USB and a blank HDD, I also get no display on my external monitor What can I do to fix this?
  7. He has to be able to buy it from that link... He knows enough about computers to realise what is pre-built and what isn't
  8. Whatever link I can give him that gives him the best components for £600 that is a pre-built is good. Do you have any suggestions?
  9. He wants a link to buy it from, preferably a reputable company, so I can not do this
  10. I have been for about a month along with a couple of friends but he is insistent. Do you have any pre-built recommendations?
  11. Hi, I am trying to help a friend of mine go from a laptop to a full PC. As such, he needs a tower, screen and keyboard (he already has a mouse and headset). He told me that he wants the build to be a max of £600 pounds and more importantly, a prebuilt PC. Thanks in Advance
  12. Different note, are you buying that monitor or do you already have it? If you need to buy a monitor, a 1080ti is more suited towards 1440p and 4k as 1080p is not that stressful for a 1080, let alone a 1080ti
  13. https://www.chefsteps.com/joule?utm_source=YouTube&utm_medium=paid&utm_campaign=linus_tech_tips Why does the link to the manufacturer's website have a referral part in it? I understand LMG gets sent the product for free in order to review it and that you place referral links in amazon links since they are a "middle-man" but does LMG get a kickback for any part of buying it off Joule's website?
