    Tell him to get something newer than 775 and you will not give him your old parts. 1156 to 775, thats a major downgrade.

    I have a Z97X-Gaming-G1-BK which also has a waterblock. These blocks are used to cool the vrms. If you dont watercool it is fine

    It should be fine, since your motherboard does not allow quad channel, the ram will auto set to dual channel. Quad channel kits are special because they are specifically validated for quad channel operation. If you can you should do a fresh install and then upgrade to 10

    yah man, a 6600k and a z170 cost about the same, hell you could even go cheaper with a 4690k and a z97. These options have much better performance for same or cheaper

    IMO I would get an Intel Core i5 processor instead of the FX-8320.
     
    If not overclocking, get the i5 4460.
     
    If you are overclocking, get the i5 4690k.
