When you load a game (from steam for an example) and you only have say around 4/6 or 8GB of ram. If your OS background processes are already using a few gig of ram. When you load up your game do you only have the rest of the ram or do you still have the full amount without the OS ram being used. I hope the question is understandable. Thanks

    Note:
G3258 can stack up pretty well against the 860k when overclocked. Newer manufacturing process and lower power consumption.
Downside is that it is dual core and I remember LTT Forum Members hate on dual cores.
You do get a better GPU.
The motherboard supports the CPU out of the box and I believe they did put overclocking capabilities in that board.
If not, then just remove the CPU Cooler and get a Z97 board, G3258 can be overclocked to 4.5GHz-4.7GHz on it's stock cooler I believe.

It's the generation that determines what works and what does not.

The i3 / i5 / i7 6xxx CPU's use the LGA 1151 socket, which is found on Z170, H110, etc. This is also referred to as "Skylake."

The i3 / i5 / i7 4xxx (and select 5xxx) CPU's use the LGA 1150 socket, which is found on Z97, H97, Q97, etc. This is also referred to as "Haswell" or "Devil's Canyon."

ReesZRB reacted to ApolloX75 in Problem! CPU compatibility
Since you only have an H97 motherboard you might as well go with the in-between option which is the plain i7 4790 non-K. You don't have the benefit of overclocking thanks to the limitations of H97 boards, so why waste the money on a K sku CPU.

Unless of course you plan on getting a Z97 board later and overclocking. That's one reason I suppose.

Edit: The reason a Skylake CPU (6600 and 6700 for instance) won't work on your H97 motherboard is that they are a different socket design: LGA 1151. Haswell boards and CPUs (4790, etc) are LGA 1150.

ReesZRB reacted to Minsekt in Changing motherboard with onother same one do I need to reinstall windows 10?
yes and no. the windows key for example is stored in your uefi on the motherboard. you have to reactivate windows at least. but just write your key down and call the microsoft robot, youll get it reactivated without any problems. (unless you already have a retail w10 key and didnt upgrade from w7/8.1 then you can skip this step obviously) for drivers its fine, id personally would do a clean install tho.

I retired from comp because more and more I ran into toxic players either trying to derank or troll. It got so annoying and Valve has little in place to prevent it. Report someone as much as you want and nothing. Finally give up and want to leave? You can't because you get the cool down!

I have a bad string the week I finally gave up. Back-to-back trash and I kept leaving because I just wanted to enjoy a match. I was fine with the cooldowns since I just played casual waiting. But the final one I actively tried to play in a team of 4 friend trolls. They wanted none of it and once they realized I wouldn't play along (and was actually carrying and could steal the win) they sabotaged me! They jumped into my fire until I got a 7-day ban for team damage and kills....that was my last comp match....[that was before the update/restructure so IDK how it is now]

    Seriously. DO NOT.

My anti static gloves got caught onto my motherboard cpu pins and slightly bent one or two pins. BUT THANK GOD THE SYSTEM POSTS. I guess either it wasn't bent enough or they weren't important pins.

    Thank the fucking lord.

Do yourself a favor, just use anti static wrist wraps. I thought anti static gloves would be more convenient than wrist wraps. I thought wrong. I near died from a heart attack when the accident happened.

I think you're talking about the orientation of the unit, yeah? If so, I would place the power supply upside down if the case has a cutout on the bottom where the unit sits. Otherwise, the PSU will "suffocate."

Seriously no one should be using it any more, if for no other reason than security concerns.  I would invest your time in convincing him to upgrade rather than continuing to feed the addiction   I wonder how many people were still running Windows 1.0 when XP came out... think about it, it's about the same time span (1986 - 2001 vs 2001 - 2016).  If that doesn't make him stop and think... idk...

No need to freak out about it. It's normal. If it stayed maxed out at 1050, or whatever your max core clock is, when you weren't using the GPU, then thats when you should freak out lol. They build in this downclocking feature so your GPU will stay cool when you arent using it.
