  1. Yeah, but it is a hassle for me to get to the search thing on the right. I end up holding my mouse there for like 2 seconds and then it pops up. Is there a shortcut for search? On Mac it's Command-Space but Idk, I've used Win 8 forever and I still don't know how to do it.
  2. OK, this was the forcing thing I talked about. I get back home in 1w so I'll dm you a screenshot then. How long after the release of the full version so you have to reserve? I just don't want to miss out.
  3. AFAIK it's not free unless you register using the little Windows button.
  4. Hello! OK, so I installed Windows 8. 1 a little while ago after having a long debate with myself on whether Win 10 tech prev. was worth it. I decided no because I didn't want the hassle of drivers and other things. I am away from my pc now, but I'll be back in the 27th, 2 days before the Win 10 release. Everything says I should get a free upgrade, but I don't have the little button thingy. I called my dad and he said he got it ages ago, so I was worried. Here is my game plan, please tell me if it sounds good. 1. See if Win 10 install is there 2. If it is, reserve and wait - or update to an RTM iso and get updated to full version from there 3. If it isn't, try using the trick/command prompt thing to try to force it- or update to an RTM iso and get updated to full version from there. I also don't know of if updating to the RTM will activate it from my Win 8.1 license. I am a little worried about what to do. I definitely want Win 10 eventually and definitely as a FREE upgrade. I also know that MS stopped the activation of Insider preview ISOs. I'd have to wait with an un-activated os of find another way to temp. activate it. I heard about this thing called KMSPico that might let me update to the Full edition from the RTM once it comes out. Thanks. I'm kinda stressed. [emoji15]
  5. @Prismo_ I got my first pc (back in the day of LGA 775) around that age (13), so I have some pretty good advice. Ask for permission to buy the pc on a "gift" day that you celebrate (Christmas, Hanukkah, Birthday). Make sure it is the only thing that you ask for. As far as I understand, you're paying for this yourself, as I did. Do not phrase it as a gaming pc. That will get you an instant no. So here is my advice: Offer to spend $500-650 on the pc now, and invest the rest of the money. Get a strong cpu (i5 4690(k) or 6 core AMD) and a 750ti. Make sure it is a relatively small case. Parents like small pcs over huge ones. This will leave you for upgrades I will talk about below. I have been investing most of my money since I was 12 years old. I have made a lot of money by investing. Like ALOT alot. Ask your parents for some good "stable" stock advice. These stocks or Mutual Funds will have a pretty steady curve (usually up) and are not that volatile. Invest 80% of your money here. Invest the next 20% in stocks that you or your parents believe might skyrocket. Then once you make a ton of money off of those, sell your stock and enjoy being rich. You can sell your "steady" shares whenever you feel like. OK, so now you have a capable gaming pc, and you have pleased your parents by investing a portion of the money, sell some of the stock and use it to buy a better gpu, or other upgrades. Lastly, make sure to give your parents good reasons why they should let you get a better pc. Special effects, Coding, Web Development, Content Creation (do not say gaming content) are all great reasons. Explain to them the benefits of the reasons. Experience: 1. I'm studying Psychology and I know how to deal with and "manipulate" people well. 2. I had to do this too.
  6. @BurnerMC Yep, since this build is relatively old, I'd probably use the Asrock X99 ITX board. Anyways let me explain. Most (all) ITX mobos have a 16 lane slot (x16). There are very simple and readily-available splitters that will split this into two 8 lane (x8) slots. The ICs onboard the splitter allow the mobo to recognize two gpus. Here is one of the splitters: http://www.compsource.com/ttechnote.asp?part_no=RSCR2UT2E8R&vid=428&src=F P. S. They also have 4 way splitters that create x4 slots. This eans that you could run 28 cards (only useful for bitcoin mining or a gpu render-array) in a mobo like the Asus X99 WS or Z97 WS. Check out http://amfeltec.com/products/gpu-oriented-cluster and also the rest of their website for some pretty cool pcie expansion stuff. Edit: Technically you could have 16 x1 slots per x16 slot. So on the x99 WS you could technically have 88 cards running at x1 if you wanted.
  7. UPDATE Really, Really, Really, Really, Crappy Pics Sorry these were taken on my cell phone at night and I didn't want to lug my studio strobes upstairs to take a couple of pics. I'll get really nice ones when I get back home.
  8. UPDATE YAY 9/10 Completed! Alright peeps, I arrived back home to be greeted by a package from SuperBiiz. Finally. Inside were the CPU and PSU, the two missing components. I plopped them in and installed the cooler and was promptly greeted by and endless stream of error codes. Below is a reference on what the error codes were and how I resolved them for those who are interested/have an AsRock mobo.
  9. Oh sounds cool! @Hubris I have the Fed-3 model a (stepped top) w/ Jupiter-8.
  10. @Hubris this looks super cool! Personally, I would paint the stickers on the psu pink and maybe the mb pink too but Idk. I think that the red mb might look good though with the pink though. Also do you have a Fed-3 rangefinder like in your profile pic?
  11. OK everybody. I got it. I formatted the hard drive in the install utility thing and installed yosemite. Yay! Thanks.
  12. True, but the 290x was worse than the 780ti, both of them bright flagship cards. You're right though. The Fury would have beaten the 780ti.
  13. Yeah, I have a Mac book pro, but from my experience with hackintoshes, the EFI and plist files are radically different for each model. Can't hurt to try though.
  14. Good for them. They have always been slightly behind nVidia in the performance department (notice I didn't say value), and this seems like a step in the right direction. I've always had a soft spot for AMD, even though I use nVidia in almost every computer I build (mainly for the lower power-consumption and heat output to performance ratio)
  15. Ok, this will sound super sketchy, but I promise you everything is ok. I recently was given a 2011 iMac 20". My mom wants to use it as a "family computer", even thought we all have our own pc's. The previous owner did not wipe the HDD, so I can't get in to the desktop to wipe it myself (I don't have their password). The previous owner forgot their password. How can I manually wipe it without opening it up? Is there come key combo I have to hold during boot to wipe it? Something similar? I can't open it up, since I would have to take the front glass off to get to the hard drive, and I don't have any glass-suction-y things. This pc was actually given to me by someone who thought it was broken (video card issues), for parts. When I turned it on, it seemed fine. The giver just moved out of the country, so I can't give it back to them. I normally would, considering that it works. This sounds like the weirdest story. It's 100% true though.
  16. MSI X99 Sli Plus. 100% black. Get one of These (Bluetooth+Wireless ac card) it has a black pcb, and comes with bluetooth. I have one. It works great.
  17. Yep, get the 270, overclock it in afterburner and there you go, you have a 270x (maybe even better) for £40 less
  18. OK. Thanks. Amd always used to recycle their top card and rebrand it as their second-best card (7970 - > 280x) I thought that's what they would do this time (Fiji would become 390x and 290x would become 380x)I see now. Thanks.
  19. I know this is going to sound stupid. I've been out of the loop. What is the difference between the 390x and the Fury series (other than watercooling)
  20. If you can push it, a refurbished/slightly used Olympus OMD-EM10 would be amazing.
  21. @MajorTemples I know. I am one of those people that likes to make everybody happy though. UPDATE 2/3 Parts are in Here is the picture update I promised! These are NOT my best pictures. Came back from seeing "Spy" last night and was exhausted. I assembled the PC and took photos. Still waiting on CPU and PSU from SuperBiiz. They are taking forever.
  22. Oh wow! We have similar parts. I see what you mean. I don't know what to change it to, though. I already have a banner being made too. I'll see what I can do. Also it's "rendering" not "riding" and I'm sure that there are other builds out there with similar names, but I know what you mean. I had not seen your build before creating this one, so I did not "copy" it if you know what I mean.
  23. Soon. I am still waiting for Superbiiz to ship me the CPU and PSU, so I can't really do anything. It's been on status "Released for Distribution" for 3 days now, so I think I'll send them an email. I've only heard good things about them though. I think I am going to re-take the pics I took last night, because I was tired, and when I looked at them today, they were out-of-focus. I'm also leaving on Friday of this week and the day I get back, me and my family are leaving for a month. I really want to get everything done by the time I leave so I don't leave this project hanging for a month + 2 weeks. I'll probably compare rendering times to my MacBookPro (which I use now , at least I use boot-camp windows ) by rendering the same projects in premiere and in AE. I'll also do Cinebench, 7Zip, etc...
  24. Thanks. I just finished building most of it, so I'll post those pics soon!
