  1. The flowers comment is pretty funny and i would agree. However, she was the one who suggested i come onto the forum to ask. Mind you i personally opted to get a second hand i7 4770k for myself rather than upgrade my entire platform. Anyways, i appreciate the advice with women but i am more interested in numbers right now. I am wanting to know what is the performance delta between the i7 2600K OC, i7 6700k OC, i5 8600K OC and i7 8700K OC paired with a GTX 1070 or GTX 1080? We play: R6: SIEGE CS:GO Battlefield 4
  2. You have definitely interpreted this the wong way. This is not about the money, but the value. What you're implying is that i should buy a gtx 2080 ti to 'show that i care' rather than being sensible and seeing if the price is justified by the performance. Cheers
  3. Hello everyone, I am thinking about upgrading my girlfriend's pc and wanted some opinions on what upgrade path provides the best value/dollar. We currently game on 1080p 144hz. The current rig is below: I7 2600k @ stock Windforce R9 290 OC (we plan to upgrade the gpu on black Friday to a gtx 1070 or 1080 or rtx 20xx equivalent) 1080p 144hz monitor Other specs basically irrelevant We currently have 4 upgrade paths: 1) $100 - Buy a z77 motherboard for and OC the 2600K 2) $450 - Buy a second hand I7 6700K, Maximus 7 mobo and DDR4 3) $615 - Buy an I5 8600K, mid range Z370 board and DDR4 4) $715 - Buy an i7 8700k, mid range Z370 baord and DDR4 Please let me know your thoughts. Your time is much appreciated!
  4. I've read somewhere that it is safe for the CPU to go up to 1.55 Volts. How true is this? In addition, does it make sense that I'm able to get a 4.2Ghz overclock on stock 1.4 volts, but I need to increase my voltage up to 1.5 volts for a 4.3Ghz overclock?
  5. What does that mean in lament terms? Sorry, I'm fairly illiterate when it comes to computers.
  6. Ohh okay, well you're undervolting your cpu then? In addition, my computer gave the BSOD so I increased the voltage again to 1.488V now. Temps are up to 53 degrees. However, I think my 212 evo is running at 50% fan speed only.
  7. You only managed to get a 500mhz overclock on your 8350 at stock voltage and on water cooling?
  8. Hi LTT community, I'm back with another question for all of you intellectual beings. So prior to tonight, I've had my FX-8320 overclocked at 4.2Ghz on the stock 1.4V. Today I decided to bump it up to 4.3Ghz but I could not get it to stabilize until the voltage was set at 1.48V. The CPU is currently sitting at a flat 50 degrees Celsius (sometimes peaking at 52) under load with Prime95 running for about 30 minutes so far. What are your opinions on the voltage and temperature? Do you think I'm able to push this CPU a little further as well?
  9. Ah perfect! I'd like to thank you guys for the help and reassuring me. Although an upgrade to an I5 4690k would be ideal, I think I'm happy for what I paid for since I got both the 970 mobo and 8320 for less than the price of a 4690K.
  10. Oh okay, thank you. I had an old version of MSI afterburner and it didn't have Rivatuner with it. So I've redone the testing and I get a constant 60fps in skyrim with everything maxed at 1080p. The GPU usage only stays constant at 100% during fight scenes and when there's a lot going on. Otherwise, it's under 100%. In this case, is there a bottleneck or not? Sorry if this is a completely stupid question.
  11. I do have MSI afterburner. Does the GPU ussage always have to be at 100% to indicate that there is no CPU bottleneck? I just tested it while playing Skyrim and the GPU usage occasionally goes up to 100% but it is usually around 60-80 and occasionally dips to 0. However, I tested Sleeping Dogs as well and it stays between 80-100% with the occasional dip to 0. I'm not quite sure if i'm testing it properly as well. I just opened up MSI afterburner and watched the monitor as I played the game in window mode.
  12. Yes, I have already purchased the CPU and Motherboard. The thing is, I happened to pick up the FX-8320 and MSI 970 Mobo for $130 and $110 respectively. I also got the Windforce R9-290 for $260. Thanks for the tip though. I guess I'll run RivaTuner and see if my GPU usage is at 100%. If so, then looks like i need to be spending around $250 for an Intel processor and $150+ for a good mobo?
  13. So I have had this rig for about 6 months now and I paid under $900 CND for it. I purchased the parts thinking that I was getting a performance per dollar ratio. However, I just recently stumbled upon some threads that are making me question the purchasing decisions that I have made. I found some threads saying that a FX-8320 is an old and bad pairing for an R9-290. It is kind of unclear because the more I looked into these threads, the more divided the side were between AMD and Intel. The Intel side saying that the FX-8320 will bottleneck it, and the AMD side saying that the CPU will not. I have also found other threads saying that the MSI 970 is not a good motherboard when it comes to overclocking and is a bad pairing with the FX-8320. So I was wondering if there are any potential bottlenecks with my system. If so, what are your suggestions for fixing these problems? If this system is bottlenecked, I was thinking of salvaging some parts from this rig and building a more efficient PC. Then use the remaining parts and build a budget PC for my girlfriend. Your help is much appreciated. My specs will be below. Specifications: CPU: AMD FX-8320 Overclocked @ 4.2 Ghz Cooling: Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo GPU: Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 Windforce 3x @ 947Mhz Motherboard: MSI 970 Gaming PSU: Corsair CX 750M 80 Plus Bronze RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB @ 1600Mhz Case: NZXT S340 Hard Drive: Western Digital Blue 1TB 7200 RPM
