VictorB got a reaction from Stefan1024 in FIXED!! Help needed part missing on a Xeon E5 2690 v2 (10core 3ghz)
    Stefan thanks for you help!
I managed to get it fixed!

Someone soldered the part on it and he removed it from a celeron 3ghz!
It did a 4 hour stresstest today without issues!

    A friend gave me a broken xeon E5 2690 v2 cpu.
On the bottom left side there is tiny part missing.
I allready found people who can solder such small parts.
Now comes the challenge where I need the help for.
I don't have the missing part. I need to find out the specs and value of the part.
Does anyone know an intel engineer who can supply the info about the missing part?
I really hope someone can help me. It is really worth trying to save this chip and build a machine around it. Or find a second cpu and upgrsde my dual E5 2640 v2 (the 2690 v2 is really expensive so that option is not doable)
    Who can help me?
I attached 3 photo to this topic.

    Only 1x PCI-E 16x but with 2x Titan X?..... You choose the wrong motherboard My Dual Socket 2011 with ddr3 has 4x PCI-E 16x 1x PCI-E 8X and 1 PCI-E 4x. But my Serverboard was designed to be a render machine to support 4 videocards. My config 2x E5 2640 V2 2ghz 8c 16t per cpu. 64gb ddr3 ecc 1600mhz. It is my daily workstation

Lots of great posts in this thread. Will go through in more detail for some optimization tips but not planning to change the vdevs to an "optimal" number of drives since future expansion is more important to me than performance.
9x5 = 45 (the number of bays I have) * 35 drives of total capacity whereas 10x4 = 40 drives and 5 empty bays *32 drives of total capacity.
I'll have a separate pure SSD server for performance.

You made mistake in your array building.

You made a 9 drive RaidZ2. But with RaidZ2 you need 6 10 14 drives for the best performance. So Multiplies of 4 drives + 2. Then you also can enable 4k sectors and that will perform better. Best Solution add 3 more drives and make 3x 10 drive RaidZ2.

And the molex spilters can cause problems because the molex connection isn't the best. So hope they use the highest quality molex splitters instead of cheap chinese splitters.

But it is a great build! Nice hardware platform. And I love the 3 SAS controllers.

Not sure about FreeNAS. I prefer Nas4Free or ZFSguru.

My own server is a 6x 3tb RaidZ2 with ZFSguru.

    Thermal paste is good.
Therefore more thermal paste is better.

in all seriousness, how old is that thing? -likes old hardware-

but for the record: that looks like way too much.

if the cpu isnt lidded (or when applying thermal paste to the GPU) you want to cover the entire die.
if the cpu is lidded you want to cover as much of the lid as possible, without it spilling over the side.

    An update!
Nothing special happened. Still waiting on the gpu power cables which I ordered 1 month ago
The unboxing video of the Noctua coolers is online!

    But here some pictures

256gb Samsung 850 pro ssd as boot drive

Don't know where to mount the ssd yet.

I spray painted a 25 year old beige 3.5 inch to 5.25 converter for my ordered front usb 3.0 panel.

I bought an used geforce 660ti with 1344 cuda cores.

    The 660ti supports 4 monitors.

They send me the wrong USB 3.0 controller! I ordered one with a internel 20pin usb 3.0 header. So they send the correct part again. And I dont have to send this one back.

I got this second Intel server for free. It has a Xeon version of the Q6600 2.4 quadcore 8gb ddr2 and it came with 4x 500gb. It is the same brand/style case.

They should do an episode for Retro PC's 1998-2000 hardware for 75$ or 100$. I pay alot less for the machines but search much longer for parts
