  1. If someone would be willing to share the name of the general contractor that organized all of this I would appreciate it. I'm looking at a VERY similar renovation this year and I just can't find anyone who understands the whole picture, especially the IT infrastructure parts. I would definitely fly this person and crew from Canada for the job.
  2. Give me the ad blocker that dupes the company serving the ad into believing I saw it, without me actually seeing it. Make the content creator complicit in (or at least benefited by) the piracy. I'd pick that up today.
  3. It seems like an opportunity was missed here to include a sample for those in the Razer product environment. Maybe they make fewer latency claims and get less pro play, but their consumer market share is sizeable.
  4. Yep, the 1070 is a no-go. It'll have to just be a monitor. I hadn't even thought about 1440p at 144hz pushing my 970 that hard. Should I stick with 1080p monitors?
  5. Damn good idea, but i don't think I'll be able to convince the wife on the 1070. That's a great monitor though, pretty sure it checks all the boxes except the TN vs IPS part. It goes on top of the list with ASUS PG278QR though
  6. So I run a dual 24-inch monitor setup right now, but my wife just stole one to replace a dead panel in her setup and she said I can get anything under $1,000 to replace it. I honestly have always run pretty cheap off brand 1080, 60hz monitors so I'm new to the mid/high tier market and need some help. I was thinking about curved and ultrawide displays, but I'm not sure how that might mesh with the second 24 inch flat display monitor. As far as my usage, I'd say it's 50% watching video at weird angles, and 50% "moderate" gaming (all blizzard games, Battlefield, counterstrike, Civ 6) My rig: gtx 970, Intel i5 4690k Things I think I'm looking for: Higher refresh rate (>60hz) Nvidia G-sync (if that's necessary over 60hz...) Pretty sure I need IPS for better viewing angles Low response time... how low is good enough for me? no idea... Definitely need VESA mount Definitely don't need 4k So far I've been looking at the: Acer Predator XB241H (to save some money) https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB241H-bmipr-1920x1080/dp/B01C05C1OK/ref=sr_1_1?tag=monitnerds-20&ie=UTF8 ASUS ROG SWIFT PG279Q https://www.amazon.com/PG279Q-2560x1440-G-SYNC-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B017EVR2VM Acer Predator XB271HU https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-27-inch-Widescreen/dp/B0173PEX20 ASUS PG278QR https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4ENDXR/ref=psdc_1292115011_t1_B01N34Q6CI Any feedback, direction, comparisons, or additional equipment suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  7. I'm really glad projector tech is going this direction. I thought maybe projectors had fallen out of vogue so we wouldn't see anything cool for a while. With some thing this portable my only questions would be with regard to the chassis strength and the stability of internal components.
  8. Went with ONOTech's AMD build for the most part, with a different HDD (I'm partial to western digital blue and black) and a different case (without case LEDs). If he runs into issues with the 2gb of VRAM he can get a paper route... Thanks again everyone
  9. Wow, Thanks for the advice and the builds guys. I was flip flopping on the HDD vs SSD debate as well as dual channel vs single dimm, and the power draw on the Fermi. I've had bad luck with rebates in the past so i tend to shy away from them or end up paying full price. I didn't know about the newer FPS games needing quad core (or 2 core threaded to 4), definitely something I'll keep in mind. Think I'll probably go with ONOTech's AMD build.
  10. Building a rig for a nephew who does some low-mid tier gaming. WoW, DOTA, LoL, steam indie games, and some of the newer FPS's but lower settings are fine. All at 1080p. He also streams movies/tv and does schoolwork but I doubt those will be an issue. Trying to keep the rig under $450 with some ability for him to upgrade in the future if he wants. Just posting here to see if anybody has some constructive ideas to bring down the price or get more bang for my buck. Right now I'm looking at: CPU: Pentium G3258 ($63) Motherboard: MSI Z97 PC MATE LGA1150 ($85) Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport (1x8gb) DDR3-1600 ($39) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO ssd 250gb ($78) Video card: Zotac GeForce GTX 560 Ti ($75 used from a co-worker) Case: Corsair 200R ($50) PSU: Corsair CX 430w 80+bronze semi-modular ($40) Location: California, USA Any budget 20+ inch IPS monitor suggestions would be welcome too (but thats for me) Thanks party people

  13. Definitely the case. I've always used Antec cases. Currently have my rig in an Antec twelve hundred (v1).
