  1. The 840 EVO is SATA3. Should be about 5 years old, but those things just don't fail. EDIT : most reviews seem to be from mid-2013, the 850 EVO reviews are from late 2014. So yeah, about 4-5.5 years would be a safe bet.
  2. That mostly depends on the case itself. Some cases allow the air to flow freely, others are very restrictive. The more restricted your airflow is, the more (and more pressure-optimized) fans you need The hardware inside is the second factor. An overclocked 18-core with dual GPUs is going to generate a lot more heat than a quad core with integrated graphics, so it'll need more fans to move enough air.
  3. Thinking about what you could spend money on is completely the wrong approach. Instead try to minimize spending to some extent, especially when you're still young. This is the time to build a financial reserve for unexpected events, or to start saving up enough to retire earlier. I'm not saying you should get a $10 second-hand dumbphone instead of that shiny new iPhone XS or Galaxy S10. By all means spend some more on things you use regularly. Just don't look for ways to spend money on things you don't need. Seriously, save up some money. If you have an accident or a serious disease, medical bills can run into the tens of thousands very easily ... or more depending on how bad the social security system is where you live. You don't want to make it through chemo only to find yourself a hundred thousand in debt, with no more job and no potential employer wanting to hire you due to your past illness. At that point you'll wish you had saved up instead of spending it all.
  4. Except they didn't. The photo clearly shows 2 fans behind that radiator. So the case has three fans, all of them 140mm by the looks of things. That being said, whoever decided to invert the airflow clearly has no idea what they're doing.
  5. The CPU is a socket 1155 one, so any ATX-sized motherboard with that socket and 4 RAM slots will do. As for where to source it, I'm not aware of anyone selling new ones. Your best bet is to get a second-hand one on sites like Ebay. EDIT : Hang on ... the motherboard you mentioned is a socket 1150, the CPU is 1155. Those shouldn't be compatible. Are you sure about the model numbers in the first post?
  6. According to Intel that CPU can handle up to 100°C. I wouldn't worry too much about low 70s.
  7. I wouldn't mind that kind of storage. I'd be able to store my entire music collection in lossless AND have enough space to store an encrypted backup file with all my important documents and photos. No more need to carry an extra USB stick with all that data.
  8. I have no personal experience with the Pure Wings fans. They should be fine though, I haven't heard anything bad about them so far.
  9. Seeing as you'll have one intake fan but both the rear fan and the PSU fan as exhaust, you'll be dealing with negative pressure inside the case. That means dust will be sucked in through all unfiltered openings (and you'll have plenty of those at the back). The power supply will also not have a filter in the orientation you're going to put it in, so some of that extra dust inside your case will be sucked through the PSU. While that's nothing worrisome as long as you regularly blow it out, it's not really an ideal situation. The Mini C can accomodate 140mm fans in the front. Personally I'd remove the 120mm and get a pair of 140mm ones. In fact I did just that on my own Define C. That setup will generate positive pressure, keeping a lot more dust out of your case. You could also add just a 120mm fan, but then you'll need to slightly raise the RPM on those front fans to achieve positive pressure, which means the system will be slightly louder. I guess the big question is how much you are willing to spend to reduce the noise level. As for where to plug in the fans, motherboard headers typically support 1A. Most fans draw around 0.2A at full load (look up your fan manufacturer's site to be sure), so you should be able to use some 2-way or even 3-way splitters to connect all case fans to the same motherboard header.
  10. This is going to be worse. Much worse. Back when XP went EoL, people had been moving to Win7 at a steady pace. That kind of move simply isn't happening now. According to NetMarketShare Win10 is only now about to overtake Win7. To put that into perspective: a year before XP went EoL, Win7 already had a 44% market share while XP had a 38% market share. And that was done without a year of free upgrades to boost the initial numbers. I wouldn't be surprised if MS finds themselves having to do another year of free upgrades in 2020 or having to extend support for Win7 for a couple more years because there's simply too many machines still running it.
  11. Wouldn't it be better if they first focused on actually making Windows work properly? Can't update Win10 for shit (seriously, how many times have they messed up 1809 by now?), but this garbage makes it out just fine. I guess this shows where their priorities are ...
  12. Could be worse. You should check the "LTT Official" section. Almost every single thread there is spam for some electronics product, all started by the same couple of spammers.
  13. I'll wait for Luke to start blinking S.O.S. during the WAN show then.
  14. That's the kind of testing that Luke used to do for a while. Stuff like this would be right up his alley. Looking at the "videos" tab on the LTT Youtube channel, In the past 2 months ALL that I see is basically advertisements, sponsored reviews and the occasional funny/foolish stuff (like the DIY Lithium battery, and even that one is basically a product review). But really informative videos that were made for that exact purpose? That's a loooooong time ago. Nowadays it's a tiny bit of info here and there buried somewhere in a 10-15 minute advertisement. Ignoring the gaming on Linux stuff and the iMac Pro debacle due to them being too niche, the first properly informative video I find is "Is Your Gaming Rig Being Bottlenecked?" That's August 5th. The next one I see is the conclusion of the airflow experiment. That's February 27th. I still watch the occasional LTT video (1-2 vids per week) and will always watch the WAN show (usually live). But 3-4 years ago I used to watch almost every single video they released. Maybe it's also because I'm not getting any younger while LMG is clearly targeting an audience that is. You can't please everyone, I'm well aware of that. The clickbait was a real turn-off and I did voice my opinion loud and clear on that BITD, so I'll not bring all that up again. However I will point out that it's only getting worse with these outright misleading titles. EDIT : looking at the Videos page, I see that the title of this video has changed to "How SSD Technology Keeps Getting WORSE! - Intel 660p". That's a lot better. Personally I'd go with "Does new SSD Technology really affect performance? - Intel 660p", but that's just me.
  15. No idea where to find period specs on pre-war cars, I was actually referring to modern ones : I'll take the Renault Kangoo as a French example. https://www.renault.com.au/vehicles/commercial/kangoo/kangoo/features-specifications I'd love to include Volvo, but they work with e-brochures that they send to your mail address. On to the Netherlands then. Donkervoort also lists dimensions in mm http://www.donkervoort.com/en/cars/donkervoort-d8-gto-40/ The UK, taking the F-type as an example. https://www.jaguar.com/jaguar-range/f-type/specifications/index.html etc etc.
  16. Yes, if you change the language in the settings the OS will think it's an English keyboard.
  17. You won't be able to swap the keys over. Firstly you'll break them, secondly the uppercase vs lowercase symbols and special characters may not be on the same key in the different layouts. You'll have to replace the entire keyboard, which on a Macbook is a costly part that on some models (for example the generation where the keys stop working after a couple of months) is riveted to the palmrest in 50 or so places.
  18. In Europe dimensions of cars and motorcycles usually are also listed in mm in the spec sheets.
  19. It's more fun when you're in Europe. The signs usually only have numbers here and my speedometer has a MPH scale, so as long as I don't go more than 1.6 times the speed limit I always argue that I wasn't speeding. The judge last time didn't think it was funny though. Anyway ...
  20. If the Winnie the Pooh cartoons taught me anything, it's that bears love honey. They're probably digging a tunnel right now ...
  21. Easy solution: Block Windows 10 users whenever they try to access the forum. ?
  22. I assume you're referring to the modern 3310, not the real one. The phone has a 2.5G connection, so good luck streaming anything on that. It doesn't do apps either. I am pretty sure that your only option regarding music is to put .mp3 files on a microSD card and use the built-in music player.
  23. Win10 sends a lot of data home. But that's where the similarities between Win10 and spyware end. Spyware tends to be well supported by its developer. Its code is compact and efficient. It runs perfectly fine on most systems. It also usually becomes better and more sophisticated over time.
