  1. Yay, Error 7 when trying to install a Lineage OS update.  Looks like I need to manually update the firmware again.

F**k it, I'm so sick of this BS that I'm just not gonna update it anymore.

If my ever more insecure tablet ends up spreading a virus that causes a global meltdown, don't even think about blaming me.  It's all the fault of the Lineage OS team.

  2. Oh FFS!  Leave me alone man!

      No calls from Dandelion.

  3. Dafuq?  Just tried to boot one of my VMs and it bluescreened in Virtualbox before even getting to the Windows startup animation.

    WTF Oracle?

Nah, I'm gonna blame iTunes.  It was my iTunes VM after all.  🤣

    3. DrMacintosh

      DrMacintosh

Why are you running iTunes in a VM? You running Linux?

    4. dfsdfgfkjsefoiqzemnd

      dfsdfgfkjsefoiqzemnd

I have both a Linux and a Windows box here, both having access to the VM image.

I only had Windows at first, but I never was a fan of all the other stuff that gets installed alongside iTunes (Bonjour, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software support x86 and x64, the Apple Updater that constantly tries to get me to install iCloud for Windows).

I try to keep my bare metal install as debloated as possible, so when an application (that I use only once every couple of months when I can't find a certain song or album anywhere else) wants to install all kinds of autostart stuff I just throw it in a VM.

  4. Here we go again.   Donald Drumpf wants to ban violent video games to help prevent further mass shootings.   Sigh ...

This will be about as effective as banning farting to improve whale boners.

  5. I feel like the machines are trying to tell me something ...

Better get ready, looks like it's going to happen soon.

  6. My Netgate SG-1000's eMMC chip died.  Time to order a new router.

Now on my old D-link with it's 10 year old firmware (the latest version!).  Don't trust it one bit, so the NAS and main rig are shut down.

  7. The R5 3600 seems to be trading blows with the 8700K indeed ... if this slightly early review is to be believed.

Yeah, that's why I added the "if this slightly early review is to be believed" part.    I guess we'll know soon enough.

  8. All you had to do was direct everyone to Twitch, Linus.  1500 people were watching a perfectly working stream there.

  9. Youtube, why u do dis?   All I wanna do is watch the damn video ...

  10. So much for Fedora then.  Can't even install it under virtualbox because the installer freezes on the language selection screen.  Nothing wrong with the .iso either, checksums match.   Complete and utter garbage.

    1. imreloadin

      imreloadin

Maybe it's a virtualbox issue then?

    2. dfsdfgfkjsefoiqzemnd

      dfsdfgfkjsefoiqzemnd

Debian and Mint run just fine, as do all my Windows VMs.  I'm only having this issue with Fedora.

Oh well, I have a spare 120GB SSD so I can give it a go on bare metal on my other PC.  It's not like it can screw up anything if I can't even get the installer to work.  At worst I lose some write endurance on an old USB stick.  I just hate wasting my time on these kinds of issues.

  11. So much for using a mouse.

      As it should be, @DrMacintosh😛

Agreed, dark themes look better.  However when working at the PC for hours on end I find that a lighter theme with dim background lighting just gives me less eyestrain and fewer headaches.

@Mr.Meerkat She only catches computer mice and toy mice.  Hasn't caught a real one in the 15 years I've had her.

But seriously i have the exact same mouse AND the same mousepad.

  12. Hello Rachel, my old friend.
    I'm borrowing your car again.

I got tired of NFS Payback and the whole gambling card nonsense, so I figured I'd revisit NFSU2 to see if it really was as good as I remember.

Had to patch the .exe to get 2560x1440 support, but it works.  Maxed-out settings, 30% GPU usage and 120FPS.
Somehow my 5930K is maxing out, but I assume that's because this game was from the XP era, so it's not really running properly in Win7.

    1. Levent

      Levent

I bet its maxing out the first core. I wish they ported this game to switch.

    2. dfsdfgfkjsefoiqzemnd

      dfsdfgfkjsefoiqzemnd

It was over 90% on ALL cores and threads.  Just figured out why though.  Apparently rundll32.exe starts using 60+% as soon as I launch the game.  I tried killing that process, but then the game crashes shortly afterwards.

Yeah, this game really doesn't want to work properly on Win7.  It predates the OS by 5 years.  Guess I'm going to try it on my Linux box, perhaps it works better under Wine.

      Still is massive fun though

I just recalled how much I hated street x races in the game. (also rundll32 might be because of game explorer, I had the same issue with non battle.net version of starcraft and I had to go to Start Menu>Games>Game explorer and over there disable "check updates for games")

  13. Welp, Assange has been arrested ...

  14. MCS Tech has no more videos on their channel.  WTF?  Did they get hacked?

There's nothing about it on their twitter, they either got hacked or they unlisted all the videos for some reason (possibly legal matter)

Just started a thread about it in General.  Hopefully we'll know more soon.

  15. So it looks like GCHQ hacked Belgacom after all.  The local tin-foil-hatters were right yet again.
