  1. The S is great for unfiltered exhausts, like what you usually have at the rear of a case. However for intakes and filtered exhausts I'd get the A12, or the A14 if the case supports it.
  2. Microsoft must have felt left out after the Amazon, Google and Apple revelations. Well, now they don't have to feel so lonely anymore. This only applies to calls that use Skype's AI-driven translation feature, so it's another case of humans reviewing what the AI isn't entirely sure about. Your regular calls are probably not being listened to by random strangers ... hopefully. But wait, there's more! This is exactly the same as the other voice assistants, so no susprises there. It was a matter of time before we had confirmation of this happening. Microsoft's website does state that calls and Cortana commands may be analyzed, but not what this actually entails. Apparently this is done by human subcontractors as well, just like the other big tech companies did. Source : https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/xweqbq/microsoft-contractors-listen-to-skype-calls I've been giving these things a lot of thought lately, and I do understand that they'd want to analyze audio snippets to improve the AI. However doing so without clearly informing the users is just plain wrong. I hope they get a massive slap on the wrist, one that really hurts.
  3. The late great George Carlin described the baby boomers the best. IMO the boomers can't die off quickly enough. Gen X never had the balls to stand up to them (and that's coming from a late Gen X'er), but I have a feeling that Gen X will keep a low profile so that the Milennials and GenY can hopefully sort out the mess that the boomer a-holes created ... if it's not too late by then. EDIT : and yes, I know that there are several Baby Boomers here, some of which I even like. Some of them are good people. That doesn't change my view on the entire generation though.
  4. You can have my GTA ... when you pry it from my cold, dead hands!
  5. I strongly disagree. Pretty sure that one of the mods is a Microsoft spambot. ?
  6. There are topics in the off-topic section for several languages. They simply don't get used much because English is the language most people agree on. German and Dutch come to mind right away, not sure what other languages there are on here.
  7. Here we go again.   Donald Drumpf wants to ban violent video games to help prevent further mass shootings.   Sigh ...

This will be about as effective as banning farting to improve whale boners.

Better get ready, looks like it's going to happen soon.

  9. Jay recently compared the Dark Rock Pro 4 with the stock cooler on his 3900X. On stock settings the temps were about 20°C lower (which increases longevity if you care about that sort of thing) and the CPU ran about 100MHz faster. You won't gain much in terms of performance. The question is if that extra 100MHz and the reduced noise level are worth the price of the cooler, and that's something only you can decide.
  10. There might be holes underneath the bottom fans, and at the very bottom of the case too. So perhaps they do suck in some air. They'd better, because it looks like that case has a serious cooling issue otherwise. That case has a glass front panel, right? Looks like it. Those 3 front fans look like they are right up against that panel, which means they are basically not able to suck in any air at all. Those side intakes won't do squat unless you can mount the front fans on the inside of the main frame so that the air can easily get to them. I doubt that there's enough room in front of the PSU shroud to mount the bottom one. EDIT : Just looked up a YT review, and from what I've seen it looks like there could be enough room to mount the fans on the inside of the frame. It's not going to be a pleasant job with that PSU shroud though.
  11. Apparently it doesn't indeed, I didn't read the small print on the site. Still, it does come with the S Pen, so by the time you buy the Apple Pencil the difference in reality is around $100. That's not much for much better battery life, a better display, more versatility etc.
  12. For most people on here, yes. However a lot of people use their phone as their primary device for storing important notes etc, and a lot of them don't sync everything. For those people ransomware is a real problem.
  13. If her iPhone is 4 years old, it's an iPhone 6 or older. Last I heard the iPhone 8 and X are also on the list of devices that are likely to be throttled. So if there has been any improvement, it has to be in the last year. https://www.macworld.com/article/3317689/iphone-8-iphone-x-throttling.html This stuff doesn't happen with any other brand. Apple simply cut too many corners in an effort to increase their profit margins and instead of properly fixing the problem (by designing a better battery) they're telling the customers that they can choose if they want their device to slow down after a year or if they want it to shut down under load.
  14. Tell me about your battery life in a year or so. That's when Apple usually starts throttling down users' devices to stop them from shutting down whenever they are put under load
  15. You're talking about the regular iPad, right? Not the Pro? According to Apple the iPad gets 10 hours of use on a single charge. Samsung says the Tab gets 15 hours of video playback. Also, given Apple's history of putting rubbish batteries in their mobile devices I am pretty confident that you'll have replaced the iPad's battery twice (at your own expense, of course) before the Samsung battery wears out. The Tab can be used as a proper laptop with an external display. That puts it more in competition with the iPad Pro than with the regular iPad. The iPad has 2GB of RAM and up to 128GB of non-expandable storage (Apple's "starting at" price is for the 32GB model, by the way, the 128GB version is $100 more expensive), the Tab's base price is for 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, with 8GB/256GB being an option. Oh, and the Tab takes MicroSD cards up to 1TB for when 256GB is not enough. On the iPad you're still stuck with a proprietary connector (Lightning), so you need to spend more on whatever cable or device you plan to plug in to the iPad, on the Samsung side you have a proper USB-C like the rest of the world uses. The iPad has top and bottom bezels the size of Texas, and a home button. The Tab has slim bezels all around and an in-screen fingerprint sensor. The iPad has a 2048x1536 IPS display (264ppi), the Tab has a sharper 2560x1600 AMOLED (287ppi) with HDR10+. The Tab will apparently come with the stylus, the detachable keyboard and a kickstand. How much will you spend if you buy the iPad, a keyboard and the Apple Pencil? EDIT : Oh, well, might as well look it up on your behalf - $429 for the 128GB iPad - $99 for the Pencil - $99 for the Logitech Slim Folio case with integrated Bluetooth keyboard (closest thing to an official keyboard for the regular iPad) Yup, that's $627, which means you've paid as much as you did for the Samsung ... while still having fewer features and worse specs. Why bother with the iPad?
  16. I always felt that $3 per creator is just ridiculous if you follow several creators, because it adds up quickly. I was waiting for prices to drop to a reasonable level before considering Floatplane. Looks like that's not going to happen.
  17. Could be worse, they could have named it "Facebook Talk" and "Facebook Photos".
  18. Oh hell yeah! Or we could display a big Winnie the Pooh eating out of a jar with a certain country's flag on it. ?
  19. AFAIK there has been no confirmation of that, the official wording is that "users will have the ability to choose to participate". So it may be opt-out with a toggle switch buried somewhere deep in a submenu (like Google is most likely going to do). Yes, I have more faith in Apple than in Google when it comes to these things, but this is still very valuable data for them so I wouldn't be surprised if they do the bare minimum in an attempt to get as many people as possible to "participate". Still no info on how Amazon plans to handle the situation. They're going to get slapped hard if they don't do anything. I am pretty sure that just about every EU-based privacy authority is looking into all voice assistants right now.
  20. I seem to recall recall Jay ranting for somewhere between 15 minutes and half an hour about the abysmal quality of their watercooling parts (and the rest of their portfolio), but then again he (rightfully) has a bone to pick with that bunch of thieves and crooks.
  21. The G935A is the AT&T specific version and like all US models it comes with a Snapdragon processor and a locked bootloader. China also uses the same CPU and bootloader, but the rest of the world has the Samsung Exynos CPU and an unlocked bootloader. https://www.techwalls.com/samsung-galaxy-s7-edge-model-numbers-differences/ AFAIK all the AOSP-based ROMS available for the S7 and S7 Edge are for the Exynos CPUs. I'd suggest trying to sell your G935A on Ebay and buying a G935F instead. That's the easiest one for what you want to do.
