  1. Pretty sure that is just an interpretation of AMD's current plans... It is true that they aren't going to release a $500+ GPU until 2017, while <$400 will be released this year (2016). That doesn't really mean they aren't going to be competitive in the higher end GPU market, but nVidia are probably going to dominate in 2016.
  2. I'm basing my assumptions off of Zen moving to 8 real cores, no hyper threading or modules, *and* +40% IPC (which is per core).
  3. I think it's safe to say it's going to be very similar to Bulldozer — amazing multicore performance (If rumors are true, nearing Intel extreme chip performance), but still mediocre single-core performance (probably near an i7 3770k single core/IPC performance). Of course, by the time Zen comes out, there'll be a Kaby Lake, which is ~4 generations ahead of an i7 3770k (which is about +20% in IPC performance). TL;DR, amazing multicore performance, ~20% less single core performance (which translates to poorer performance in games in general)
  4. The 8350 has about the same multi-threaded performance as an i7 3770k, but it's single threaded performance is easily butchered by pretty much any Intel CPU dating back to a Sandy Bridge i3. Unfortunately, AMD's CPUs haven't gotten a break from software in the past 4 years (glances towards DX12 for GCN), so the i7 3770k is easily the better option because there are only a couple benchmarks that show the 8350s true potential. In summary, it will be a large upgrade from your 8350.
  5. Asus did an informal study on a large batch of Skylake processors and they came to the concusion that half the CPUs were able to break 4.5GHz. I'd try to inch towards 4.5GHz, then, if you voltages and tempuratures are still likable, push for 4.6GHz or 4.7GHz. Asus noted that very few CPUs were able to breach 4.8GHz.
  6. Unfortunately the only two good ones I know expired on the first. I just checked /r/buildapcsales and here are the details to one this month. Generally around another 10% off (not including the rebate), up to $20, so the 390 would be $279.99 at the end of the day. Compared to the $339.99, it's a pretty large difference for about the same performance.
  7. I know what you mean. If it's something that you aren't going to use exclusively in class, then it is quite small.
  8. I did get Unreal Tournament Alpha to run on the lowest settings, but you'd have to stick to less demanding games. I basically live on campus, so my desktop is good enough for that
  9. If you can find a Newegg site-wide discount code, it cannot be applied to the 970 due to the free game. If you have such code, it'd make the 390 way less expensive.
  10. Do you have a gaming desktop? If so, then an ultrabook would suit you needs (light, thin, fast for non-gaming tasks). I have the Asus UX303LA (With an i5 5200u and QHD+ touch), it's cheap but has all the things you need.
  11. HardOCP gave AMD's 390X, Fury, or Fury X cards a silver award or no award at all.
  12. I love Smite. It's actually coming to Steam really soon!
  13. Check this HardOCP review of the Fury. This basically shows why, in my opinion, Nvidia is plowing though the marketshare. https://forum.teksyndicate.com/t/nvidia-drivers-exposing-non-existing-directx-12-capabilities-allegedly/86764/38?u=missxu
  14. Until you turn GameWorks on... Then Nvidia basically win every time.
  15. I've only played one of the gameboy and it's one of my favorite games
  16. I'm personally going to wait 6 months to a year and see where the prices are. I mainly want an NVMe drive...
  17. Zen is rumored to be 8 core, 16 thread, with IPC identical to Ivy Bridge. That should bring AMD very close to Intel in gaming (just look up a 3770k vs 6700k gaming benchmark to understand about how a Zen CPU should perform vs Skylake), but the 16 threads should place it very competitively to Intel's extreme processors in multi-threaded applications (in between a 4960X and 5960X). If they price it competitively (below $650), it should be very compelling to get, especially if the AM4 socket brings an up-to-date chipset. They have had 5 years to make this thing... They are pretty crazy, but I think they'll pull it off. Basically, what I'm saying is that AMD Zen is rumored to NOT beat Intel. This is slightly disappointing, but not as disappointing as them promising to be king and falling slightly short. Note I have simplified the rumored data leaving out clock rate and cache amount. But clocks might be worse and cache might be better. AMD might have to compete with a Skylake refresh, Kaby Lake (like Devil's Canyon), which shouldn't change the landscape dramatically. Cannonlake, however, should be interesting, but that is rumored to be pushed to H2 2017. If all that is true... Intel will have to change their product lineup to match AMD, or they'll slowly lose market share and profits. Maybe, then... Will we get consumer grade 6- and 8-core CPUs from Intel.
  18. It does have 8+4 power phase vs the Maximus Hero that only has 6+4 I wonder what the pricing on this thing with be
  19. There are some command prompt lines that might help you Try, in an elevated command prompt SFC /SCANNOW
  20. Nah... The only thing that is bit flipping to much, but reformatting doesn't inherently flip bits, that would be reinstalling Windows. Even reinstalling Windows won't degrade your HDD or SSD that much either.
  21. http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/monitors/85469-benq-xr3501/?page=5 Now they say it has no FreeSync. IDK what I was reading. The first paragraph of the first page:
  22. I actually don't know. I assumed it was a gaming monitor (144Hz) so that site must be the most reliable. However, I'd contact BenQ directly or surf the web a little more. http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/monitors/85469-benq-xr3501/ They say it has NO FreeSync
  23. Someone probably made a mistake in excluding the FreeSync support on that non-gaming site. I thought it was worth, but I didn't get an ultra-wide. That significantly increases the price of a monitor.
  24. You can purchase it here for 79.99 + S/H http://www.phanteksusa.com/products/phanteks-enthoo-pro-m-black Because it's so hard to ship a case around, you probably won't get much better of a deal. The Define S has shipping issues too.
