  1. If their panels are great, does that also mean great/good picture quality even while lacking features?
  2. So my 37" 720p Sharp Aquos LCD TV died as of yesterday . I'm now looking to buy a new one and upgrade to a slightly larger screen and resolution, 40" 1080 LED TV. I was thinking about going 4K months before my TV died, but I've decided not to, since 1080p still works for me even though I've seen 4K in person. So to the point, I'm currently thinking about getting this LED TV from an unknown or not-so-well known brand in the US which is the Changhong LED40YD1100UA. Video reviews for this model are scarce online as supposed to written reviews. The TV will mainly be for watching basic cable (on air), netflix and a bit of gaming, but I game more on my PC than on my console. My main gripe is the brand since I've never heard of it before. My budget is around $250. Suggestions are welcome, but I would like to hear more opinions on this TV brand. What do you guys think, should I pull the trigger and buy it? Thanks . http://www.walmart.com/ip/Changhong-40-1080P-60Hz-LED-TV-40-1080p-60Hz-3x-HDMI-LED40YD1100UA/44728150
  3. Bought the monitor last week and it's arriving tomorrow!!! Can't wait to open and test this bad boy (Pb298q) of a monitor out. Thanks everyone! I'll update once I have it set up and running.
  4. But then again freesync is one of the reasons I would consider the LG monitor. I would also need a new graphics card just to use freesync since my current one doesn't support it. I will wait for freesync to get better until it becomes the "norm".
  5. Damn, I thought it would be compatible with past AMD cards as far as the HD 7000 series . Would you recommend buying seller refurbished of the Asus Pb298q?
  6. Yup, a Gigabyte Radeon HD 7970.
  7. Sadly no. Only AMD cards, unless Nvidia decides to do the same like AMD, but I highly doubt it.
  8. I'm in quite a dilemma. I'm stuck on choosing between buying the Asus Pb298q now or wait for the LG 29um67 (I believe will be more available everywhere sometime in April). I currently have a 16:9 tv/monitor (dead at the moment) and I'm set on moving to 21:9 aspect ratio. My budget is ~$400. Now I understand that from Linus's review of the LG 34um67 that its adaptive/variable refresh rate is only between 48 hz to 75 hz (27 hz range). I'm not sure if the LG 29um67 will have the same window for its adaptive /variable refresh rate. I don't know if future software updates by AMD or LG could broaden that range for the adaptive refresh rate. Now for Asus Pb298q, I found a seller and factory refurbished for $291 and $321 respectively. I believe that the LG 29um67 will be $449. One of the reasons why I might choose the Asus over LG because of the overall build quality of the Pb298q with a heavy base and robust stand as well as the ability to pivot, swivel, and position in portrait. Not only that, but it includes all the necessary cables, dvi, display port, and hdmi. But I would choose LG over Asus because of freesync, "frameless" design, and the possibility of the adaptive refresh rate to increase with a future software update by AMD or LG. I'll be gaming and doing school work on the new monitor, but more school work at the moment. School work includes coding in Matlab, CAD, etc. I don't plan on playing competitively. Types of games I play are Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, Shadows of Mordor, StarCraft, just to name a few. So any thoughts? Asus Pb298q = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236348 , https://www.asus.com/us/Monitors_Projectors/PB298Q/ LG 29um67 = http://www.adorama.com/LOT29UM67.html , http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-29UM67-P-ultrawide-led-monitor Thanks everyone!
  9. I'm wondering whether it's worth getting the LG 29UM65-P for 299.95 + free shipping and $27 on sales tax, so $326.95 total. But this is a REFURBISHED unit with a 90 days MANUFACTURER WARRANTY and the seller has a 93% rating. Do you guys think I should pull the trigger on this one, or wait for the release of LG's freesync ultrawide monitors with the hopes that the previous ultrawides (29UM65, 34UM95, etc.) will get a more than generous discount?
  10. So I was going to pull trigger in buying the 29um65, but then my desk-cabinet isn't wide enough and also it's against the wall. I can't relocate it because of the all furniture within the room. It's 26 inches wide whereas the 29um65 is 27.7 inches wide, which is over and would be leaning against the wall. I'm heading to Frys tomorrow to see both monitors first-hand.
  11. What model and size is that?
  12. Put freesync aside, do you think the lg 29" ultrawide monitors without freesync, which are the ones available now will get a price drop? And you mentioned within a month, is it guaranteed for a March release?
  13. Well one of the other reasons why I might go with a 25" ultrawide is because table-cabinet that I have is such that I am sitting pretty close to the monitor. My previous display, the samsung is 24", but it felt like it was bigger than 24" because of sitting up close to it. So I feel like I might not be able to appreciate having a 29" ultrawide or be able to experience because all that it offers as far as display size is concerned. And as mentioned, I'll be sitting up close to it due to the size of the table-cabinet that I have. But I'm still reviewing the both monitors along with 29" a various sites and forums. I'll probably also try to see if local retailers have it so that I can I see it in person.
  14. So my Samsung T23A350 tv died on me recently and I couldn't find any repair parts online to fix it. And so I figured this would be a good time to upgrade my display. I've been looking mostly at thin bezel monitors going from AOC, to Asus, and then narrowing down to 2 LG monitors both being ultrawide LG 25UM65-P and 25UM65-S. I'm choosing ultrawide, because I wanted something new as supposed to just going up in resolution like a 4k or 1440p monitor. I will be gaming and doing school work (mostly with CAD). The 2 monitors mentioned earlier were both chosen because they both have all the ports as well enough ports for my devices besides my PC. I also like the aesthetics, thin bezels, and the dual link feature as well as the extra real estate. The only difference I found was that the 25UM65-P has less lag input of 5ms during gaming. I'm not quite sure what the huge difference that would do when I'm gaming regularly. I'm not heavy on competitive gaming, but I do want a great experience when gaming.
