  1. The cheap kit I've found doesn't appear to be supported for B450. So, I guess I just have to pray that it works (at the desired frequency), right
  2. Hi, I'm building a new rig for myself, but there is this last thing that's bothering me, and its RAM compatibility. I've found this kit G.SKILL 32GB Aegis DDR4 3200MHz CL16 KIT F4-3200C16D-32GIS for 106e, and from my understanding it's a great deal. It's 3200MHz, and CL16, so it should theoretically work great with Zen+, right? The CPU I went for is the Ryzen 7 2700x, and as for the motherboard, I was going to go for a B450 board, but on the GSKILL's website, B450 boards are not listed in the QVL section. Luckily, B550 boards are listed (and are only 20e more expensive on average), so I decided to go for Gigabyte B550M DS3H which is on the list. The thing that has been bothering me there is that for some other RAM sticks B550 boards are listed, but only for 3000 and 5000 series Ryzen processors. That has lead me to believe that they (GSKILL) perhaps haven't properly updated their list. Has anyone had experience with this combo of hardware, and can anyone help me clear this up?
  3. Thanks! 5% is definitely something I can live with.
  4. @Streetguru 3600mhz CL16 is out of my price range (32 is not absolutely necessary, but it gives me peace of mind when working with VMs). I'd be willing to reconsider the size if speed and timings make too great of an impact. @piratemonkey Just how important are the timings? The gskill ones I listed have CL16-18-18-38. How much would that impact performance.
  5. Hi, two of my friends and I have decided to finally upgrade our PCs, and we are all going with a similar configuration (motherboard, cpu and ram (gpus may differ)). At the core of our builds will be Ryzen 7 2700 (or x) (140e or 170e). For the motherboard we chose Gigabyte AM4 B450M (65e). All of the B450M motherboards seem to be fairly similar. If you guys think one of them is much better than the others but is still within that price point, please correct me. As for the RAM, I've heard that Ryzen 2xxx series CPUs are very picky, and need fast RAM in order to shine. I was going for 32gb, and as for the cheap offers, I found the following kits: G.SKILL 32GB Sniper 3000MHz X F4-3000C16D-32GSXWB (130e) G.SKILL 32GB Aegis 3000MHz F4-3000C16D-32GISB (135e) PATRIOT 32GB Viper Elite 2800MHz PVE432G280C6KRD (135e) I just listed a few cheap ones that have high frequencies. If there is anything else I should be looking out for when it comes to RAM, please point it out. As you can see, we are going for the best bang for the buck here. If you guys have any suggestions on what can be done differently, we are open to suggestions. PS: I know that 32GB of RAM may be overkill for gaming. I myself might get that much for futureproofing purposes, and since I'm working with VMs. My friends will probably go with 16GB.
  6. I bought a backlit usb keyboard yesterday, and it works great, but I have one issue with it. When I shut down my pc through linux, the lights on the keyboard stay on, but when I shut down my pc through windows, the keyboard properly turns off. Is there any way to properly power off the keyboard before shutting down the pc?
  7. I will check the temps under load, but I think that CM Hyper TX3 should keep it cool enough. If I run into issues, I will do what DocSwag said.
  8. It posted successfully, and it did boot to Linux, so Windows should be fine as well.
  9. Switching it to profile1 does increase the memory frequency to 2000MHz, but it also increases the CPU frequency to 3.96GHz.
  10. So, I should enable XMP, but disable CPU turbo boost, or whatever is the equivalent of that?
  11. I bought these yesterday as an upgrade from my exceleram 2x2GB modules that worked at 1333MHz: They work fine, but in the uefi the memory frequency shows up as 1065.14MHz. Shouldn't it appear as ≈2000MHz? Here are some uefi screenshots: I tried loading optimized defaults, but it remains the same. The motherboard is Gigabyte F2A88XM-D3H.
  12. I would love to get an update from my HD6850
  13. It looks great. I would love having one of those around
  14. I downloaded Overdrive, and ran an AIDA64 stability test to put the CPU under load. These are the results: Looks realistic enough to me. What do you think?
